I can see where the guy was coming from, but honestly he had no reason to be that hostile about it. A polite "Hey, could you set those off in your GH? It's lagging up the district and the sounds are kind of annoying" would have sufficed.

Personally, I don't mind it when people spice up a district, although it can slow things down in big cities. That's why I like to go other places and set them off, grace a lowbie Factions district with a line of snowmen or some such. Some of the new players get really surprised, it's funny.

Whenever I have done it, with ghosts or snowmen, I run around or run to an npc whilespamming; there is usually one or two people that have never seen it before and are amazed.

So ignore the idiot, tell him to go to his GH if he doesn't like it and have fun

Spam away.

I usually stockpile my party points then set them off as I run around the fountain in Lion's Arch. It always cracks me up when I see somebody else doing it, so I feel obliged to provide some entertainment when I can.

I love it when people spam their party animal points. I think it's a fun part of the game.

OP: Well, there is no formal etiquette for spamming 'noisemakers' and so the person who yelled at you has no ground to stand on. However.....

If you are spamming LARGE numbers of noisemakers in one of the trade cities, and you are doing it RIGHT THERE by the Xunlai chests where hundreds of people are trying to trade...then I could see how it might annoy them.

Perhaps the most courteous rule might be this: Consider other people. If you're in an outpost, since most are sparsly populated, spam away. They can leave if they don't like it. Traders CAN'T leave. If you're in a populated trade city either refrain or go away from the traders to do it.

Either way, it's not a big deal. Don't lose sleep over it.

Eh, personally as someone who does have their sound on (I actually like the music and use sounds to know when things are going on) and wears a headset, a load of ghosts going off at once can be pretty... overwhelming. It's happened before when I've stood in an outpost, tabbed out to look something up on Wiki/Guru/Argos, not had GW muted in the background so I can hear any whispers, and someone's made me almost crap my pants from the sudden noise next to me. I guess the items have their intended effect in that respect :P

I can see where the dude was coming from to an extent, but there's no need to swear and curse about it. Well, it's something I'd possibly swear and curse about in GC/on Vent, but that would be it :P Generally speaking, I don't spam those items in towns outside of the events when EVERYONE is doing it. Partly because I don't go out of my way to acquire them (as yet :P) and partly because I bear in mind what it's like to be semi-afk and have a load go off in your ear at once. Having seen how you were in Spamadan which is the main trade centre... yeah I can totally understand why the guy was as annoyed as he was, although there was no reason to be as rude. As said above, if you're somewhere busy and have a load of ghosts to spam, prolly best to take it somewhere quieter or wait til you're in your GH :/ Snowmen are much quieter and therefore not so much of an issue, same goes for the rest of the spammable party stuffs.

In my opinion, the noise can get slightly irritating, but it's all in good fun i guess.
You've done nothing wrong and like the others have said, i wouldn't worry about it.

While the guy might have overreacted it can be annoying, be a little considerate when spamming stuff.

Being able to do something doesn't mean it's appropriated or indicated. And if I were you I'd watch this kind of attitude around your mother. Even if you're not 7 anymore (which I doubt) and can't be sent to bed without supper, that slap upside the head might still happen.

Just because most people are adult enough to realise the futility of protesting against ghost spam doesn't make those who do it any less of an inconsiderate jerk.

If you don't realise they're annoying, fine. But once you know, and you do it on purpose around large groups of people, you're just asking for it. At the very least don't be so suprised when some react rudely. "I can do it and there's nothing you can do, nya nya nya" is as childish as it gets.

Frankly, to me, the person who is unable to expres themselves politely about ghost spam, and the person whose idea of entertainment is running around making a ghost line, are just about the same level of [im]maturity. Adults are supposed to have learned both how to be polite and when it's time to move past simplistic forms of entertainment once the novelty wears off.

If I have a problem with the spam, I'll be a grown up and find another district. Simple and effective. The other party involved is doing nothing wrong, why should I force my own personal opinions of conduct on others? They are not universal and shouldn't be assumed as such.

Not sure if it's just me, but I noticed if you turn your character's back to the ghosts, they get muted. It's not until they're actually part of your screen that you can hear them. Usually the case for me since hearing a full stack of those can be a bit annoying.

But feel free to spam party points, they're a lot of fun to watch.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful comments - I'm amazed by the response to my original post.

I've certainly learnt from this - it was my first encounter with the ghosts and I hadn't realised they were that noisy as did not have my headphones on at the time - and although I thought I'd tucked myself into a corner in Kamadan square I can see how it would have been annoying. I'll know to pick the quieter things to spam in outposts now, although will still have fun with the other party items.

Thanks everyone for your support!

Best wishes - Dan
