New computer help installing please!
Godley Monk
Hi, I'm a long term GW player who recently purchased a new computer. It's a Toshiba laptop and today I tried to install GW on it but when I click install a message pops up that says "could not open "data/GW/GwSetup.exe-update" [0]". I then have the option to either press OK or x it out and upon doing either all installation processes stop. Please help I don't know what to do. thank you.

Have you tried right-clicking on GwSetup.exe and choosing "Run as Administrator"?
Snograt
How are you installing it? From disc or from a downloaded client?
The GwSetup.exe-update looks wrong to me - it appears to be attempting to run the client with the -update switch, but there's a missing space between .exe and -update. All the -update switch does is update gw.dat from the install disc.
If that's just a typo, maybe we're looking at permission errors again? Hard to tell..
(Edit) Or, er, do what Quaker said...

ok I tried running as an admin but that had no effect. I am installing from a disk Ive tried installing from disc one of Prophecies NF and Factions and they all did the same thing. And yes there is suposed to be a space I just typed it in wrong.
So I think I figured out the problem when trying to run the file GwSetup off the disc using my computer it says the operation could not complete successfully because the file contains a virus. I havn't touched the disc in years and have no idea how this happened. Any ideas how to fix this, or another way to install it?

If you login to your NCSoft / PlayNC Master Account (Assuming you linked your Guild Wars account to it) you can download the game from the link provided in your Account Management area.

Thanks for tip about downloading the game client off NCsoft! I am now happily playing again

Just for the record, you can always download the client from guildwars.com

Hi guys, I found this forum thread after having the same problem today. After reading this I went into the folders on the disk to "Guild Wars Disc 1/DATA/GW" and then in there ran "GWSETUP.exe" as an administrator and that worked. I wasn't keen on downloading it all because of speed and cap so.
I also had the virus problem just just turned off the virus scanner while I'm installing as they are the discs I bought in the shop ages ago.
Hope this helps anyone else that comes across this.
I haven't played this in years, is there a jump button upgrade yet?

Damn, nothing loads off the CD anyway it seems. I think I better wait till the middle of the night when my off-peak time starts.

Lots of stuff loads off the CD/DVD, but unfortunately, most of it has been updated since the CD/DVD was made, so you have to download all the new stuff as well.
No jump button yet, but /jump might work as an emote.
