What do you think is the best update to GW1?

Best: Refund points removal, item inscriptions, addition on heroes.
Worst: Everything else added in Nightfall, Consumables and EotN PvE skills, Shadow Form

Probably heroes, I really love playing around with different builds it's probably one of the main reasons I like GW so much (I used to make D&D builds before in Neverwinter Nights and I loved that as well) - while GW2 looks to be nice I'm going to miss making builds.

My biggest dislike is probably consumables, I wish they weren't in the game.

Lol, qq'ing about +10 -2 not being possible in PvP again, eh? I wouldn't mind if they made it possible, it would make my shields worthless though, but still, at least I wouldn't have to look bloody everywhere for shields with +10v certain mods..

So many people saying Sorrow's Furnace, and yet after 4 years of playing I still haven't even attempted it.

So in the past 4 years, I'd have to say that the best update was the introduction of HM. It added so many new things, even things that weren't even related to HM such as Legendary Cartographer and dividing the Skill Hunter titles and adding Legendary Skill Hunter.

Sorrows Furnace is one of the few pretty dungeons in GW. The only other beautiful dungeon I can think of are the Catacombs.

Sorrows Furnace by far. Hard Mode WOULD have been my #1 if Anet didnt sneak that Lootscaling shit in. No where was it ever mentioned, and it was horribly implemented for 2 or 3 patches.

While it was introduced just before I bought the game so it wasn't an update for me, Sorrow's Furnace is still more fun than the other dungeons.

I would have to agree that Hard Mode was the big one in my experience. I've enjoyed most of the changes the devs have introduced, but that one is the best.

My favorite update was the release of nightfall. Pretty much everything now is just crap "balancing" that they apparently put all the unpaid interns on while all the knowledgable and important people work o GW2. No offence Anet crew, but come on

Best 'Updates' : Sorrows furnace, changed skills/attributes/build interface, insignias/no inherent armor bonus, booze = spam, gw birthday/minis, 8 man HoH, hard mode

Worst 'Updates' : Heroes, introductions of microtransactions, never nerfing SF, consumables, codex arena, hero battles, inscribable weps, pve skills, skill 'balance' updates that led to a few incredibly OP generic builds

Best update was when they changed the way you can freely change your attribute points in order to change your build. Back in the day you had to kill mobs to gain skill points in order to change attributes for your build.

I can't really think of any update that made the game worse. If you want to play old school, you still can.

Oh yeah, the best is probably the extra storage. I completely forgot we once had only one panel!

Oh man, good updates.

Sorrow's Furnace
Skill Templates
The whole attribute thing
Hard Mode + titles that came with it
Reconnect like that dude mentioned above
7 heroes

I'm probably missing some in there.

Worst?
That update in the late winter of 2005 that made Warrior's damage reduction go poof, destroyed some of my boring, long ass farms that I liked doing.

Inscribable weapons. I like them and I don't, destroyed a market for a time. It kind of came back slowly though.

Oh yeah I forgot about how they reduced it down to 10 minions, I mean I know it was for balance but how fun would it be to run around with 7 necro heroes and every dead body being a minion ahahaha.

The only two that really irked me. OH wait...THE WORST THING EVER. Removing grotto slide, why the hell did they do that!

Then there were 2 things that happened because of updates, that Anet let float around for a day or a week.

1st was..after they did the AOE nerf to NM back in 2005 to make it impossible to do Balth's Aura 55 monking on trolls, they did an update that brought it back for 1 day. I didn't make much money (50k or so, just off trolls) but boy that was a fun day..16 trolls dead in 10 seconds.

2nd was in 2006 sometime, they did an update that caused a bug that made enemies who killed other enemies drop things when those enemies died. So you could go to certain areas in the Jade Sea and just sit there and collect your drops. Made 50k off that too..good ol days!

I play GW since the the release of EOTN, and in the time since then I think the best updates were:
- upgraded storage & zaishen-quests
- 7 heroes
- buffs to mesmer and ritualist
- the title point update on Nov 2008
- the buff to several elites on Dec 2008

I don't know yet if Embark Beach is a best update as well. It is not yet adopted as the central group finding and trading hub by the community. I don't know if it is ignorance or if the place is not suitable enough. It has its downsides, for example the distant spawning points. A killer function would be a "Leave" button to get back to the previous outpost like there is in the guild hall.

Anet's biggest failure, Codex Arena.
No, I reckon it was the farcical Embark update, and that by quite a long way.
They could have spent the time and effort on better things, like missing armour sets or GW:B. Ever since that was introduced, big lag spikes keep appearing outta nowhere.

Codex is just strange and a waste of space imho.
Removing the title that went w. its predecessor was a doozy too.

Also fiddling around w. Derv, to the extent it was done, was defo not a sound move.

However, bright side: The massive drop in the price of Sup Vigor rune was great! Cost 100K and more when I first started......

Inscriptions were probably one of the best updates. Complaining they "screwed over the entire weapon market" is just ridiculous. Now if you want a certain sword skin with 15^50 on it, you don't have to sit in town spamming for days looking for the one person that has one to sell and then having to pay a small fortune for it.

I just don't see how that's a bad thing.

For most people it's great. For people like myself and those who used to trade weapons back in the day it kind of was a double edged blade. Sure we don't have to go searching for that one weapon anymore but it also killed our market, sure some things went back to selling big, because non insc collectors came, but for the most part..between over abundance and inscriptions the market died on a lot of things that used to be a semi-easy sell.

Which was really good for chest runners and the like, we could support our habit and title with the items we got from the chests..you can do that now but the chances of getting something that's worth something dropped drastically.

Right now it's kind of a moot point cause it's been so long, but that's how I'd say those who don't like it because of that reason, view it.

Most weapons, of most skins are available of collectors, with most mods on them, so if you really wanted a skin with a certain mod, you could find one. On the other hand, finding your q9 15^50 weapon wasn't that hard, trust me. What I hated about it, was that they created a nice system of collectors and green items, which covered a large chunk of the weapon spectrum, and then all of a sudden, they destroyed it completely. Who uses green weapons? Who uses stuff to get weapons from collectors? No one, because every perfect weapon is now within reach, and it will only cost you about 5-10k to make it.

Many of my characters still use green weapons:

Necro - Staff of the Heirophant
Mesmer - Rose Focus
Elementalist - Ilsundur's Staff
Ritualist - Bogroot Staff

Other than that, green weapons are pretty much standard fare for 90% of my heroes.

To the topic at hand: tough call, but I'm gonna say reconnects, followed by inscriptions and insignias (separating armor looks from armor stats? yes please), followed by heroes.

No mention of the ritualist update? That drastically changed the game for me.

7 heroes is right up there too. Never set foot in FoW before than, now I feel like I'm a pro.

The Ursan nerf was actually pretty great me for me. I came to GW right around the time EotN came out, so I used to run around doing nothing but Ursan on my single ranger. The nerf was devastating to me at the time but it did force me to learn to finally play the game and most importantly to roll a bunch of new professions on my account.
