(I have looked on the wiki, and have found no solution to this dilemma)
I am currently working on LDoA (level 19), and was wondering about finishing the quest, The Ranger's Companion.
However, I currently have a black bear (at level 19 as well) and was wondering if I could still complete it, via this method:
*I have not accepted a secondary profession yet*
-Go into Regent Valley with the secondary skill set of any but ranger. (this takes the bear away from me temporarily)
-Accept the Quest from Master Ranger Nente. (this gives me back the ranger skill set, but not the bear, as i have not zoned yet)
-Charm Melandru's Stalker
-Get quest reward
-Give the stalker to Jarrel the Tamer.
Via this method, does anyone know if could i still manage to keep my bear when I zoned out of Regent Valley after I finished?
Pre-searing question.

No, that will not work. I ran into the same problem and tried doing exactly what you outlined. The game will recognize that you have a pet already linked to your character, so you won't be able to tame a stalker.
The only way to complete the quest is to turn in your pet to the tamer and then tame a stalker. I don't know if it's required to take Ranger as your secondary, but if it's not, then by not completing the quest you're only losing out on 250 XP - which isn't a big deal any more.
