New Arena - Preventing GW from obvious death

Hi everyone, as you know Guild wars is having less and less players after every week , in both PvE and PvP sides ( second one especially)....

With the lack of updates , almost everyone has now attained their objectives ( i.e GWAMM , some title , GvG rank , etc...) and it makes no doubt there will be a massive leave when GW2 will be out( it could be even before it ) . People do say they will not , but let's face it , what would they do in an inactive game , when today already they're not doing anything else than standing in kamadan all day.....

As you know , that massive leave out will lead to consequences that are already appearing today. PvP will be unplayable since most formats require lot of people . Pve , although having heroes , will become pointless in the eyes of players since they won't be able to communicate with teammates anymore or to deal with other players.....

Here , what i would like to suggest is something that will be a mix of PvE and PvP , in a way to make people still able to play : War in Kryta Arena .

It would be that way :

- Specific bars such as in costume brawl , changed every week. That way it will avoid some form of unfair fights , too OP bars , etc...

- It will be a 2v2 annihilation fight. Players will have to choose with themselves a henchman of their choice. The problem with Hero Battles was
that many couldn't bother controlling bad IA heroes , especially when it was about flagging or whatever....Here , it should be easier on a standard fight , and the hench bar would be fixed as well...

- It will use the system of swiss tournament . Everyone will thus be able to get rewards and since the rules aren't especially hard , everyone will have same chances...

So ,then this format would require very little people to play and would still be attractive so there would still be players at a very dead state of the game .. What do you people think ?

I like it. Which pvp title would u say this arena would give points to, as it would be very simple to attain gladiator points, or simply no points at all and just for the fun?

Anet, listen to this thread OP.

You have to realize this is not in Anets best interests. Anet doesnt want you to keep playing GW1 when GW2 comes out, they want you to move on and start playing GW2 instead.

This is actually a relatively good Idea. It seems a bit like the norn tournament.

Yes. And mostly those playing now are either back to get their HOM or new and wanting a taste till GW2 comes out. The rest have either completed their HOM and not playing much.

I don't really play much in the way of pvp but that might get me interested.

My main problem with the current system is that there isnt a way of separating the noobs like myself from the A class players, you see while I don't mind losing, I just don't want it to happen all the time.

So much like pve where if a character reaches a certain level he gets reduced or no xp for killing low level creatures so it should be for pvp.

Players who reach a certain score from wins have to move up to a higher level, consider it a league system for pvp.

Good for new players because they get to play in an arena where they have some chance of winning and great for the experienced players because they won't have to put up with inexperienced players as opposition or on their team.

One problem I can think of is second accounts, experienced players could move to another accounts and become pvp noobs again, well good luck to them they would soon have to move up the ranks again.

Or they could just add year round Costume Brawl, that'd be way better.

The way I understand this is that you want a smaller codex arena with optional henchies. Please clarify if I misunderstood, but I see three concerns with this format:
1) You shouldn't include AI as a match deciding factor. Henchies are bad enough already in GvG, HA and have limited knowledge of how to use several hundred of skills effectively (with or without abusing them).
2) You will split the PvP crowd even further, thus accelerating the "death" of a game you seem to care so much about.
3) The way Codex is implemented tells another story of how sealed deck should be brought to the game.

I'd rather them to concentrate on future smaller and more frequent balance updates and let the game rest in peace, once GW2 hits the shelves.

^this. I like the OP's idea for that style arena as well. I also really enjoyed the DOTA style arena over Wintersday.

I also don't agree with the OP saying it's getting more and more dead in GW every day. RA is just as busy as it ever was with lots of new faces.

If the OP is talking about GvG and HA being dead, well that is another story entirely. New players have zero chance to get better and even the guru staff admits to finding it hard to keep people from tanking their rank to win prizes in lower brackets. Honest players trying to get good at something will go to a game where there is a level playing field.

While I absolutely love the sentiment of the staff here on guru trying to encourage new players to get better, the contingent of players that smurfed, botted, trolled, rank-discriminated(i could go on, but you get my point) ruined the competitive aspects for so many people for far too long.

Missing HB, that is a wonderful idea! If ANet could implement it, it would be attractive.

GW has been declared dead since the week Prophecies came out! Still rather lively for a corpse. No, it is not going away.

I would respectfully disagree. Seems to me that ANet would rather sell two games rather than one! Then too, they would not have invested the time and effort they have recently in GW 1 if that were the case.

More likely they will provide incentives for those who own GW 2 to also buy GW 1. Something like HoM, only not requiring as much time and effort. "Look! New goodies! But you can only earn them in GW 1."

Only after release will we know whether everyone likes all the new innovations. Only after release will we know how much CPU and GPU is required to run the game effectively. I will have the Super Deluxe Collector's Edition on order! Plus money set aside to buy stuff in the company store. Can't wait! Will build a new computer if I have to; but not everyone can afford to do that. Especially not with the world economy continuing to deteriorate.

My point was more likely to introduce again ( like hero battles tournaments ) some form of competitiveness accessible by anyone at anytime unlike GvG tournaments...
Those bots , smurf and other problems are also linked to team fights , which means ruining 8 people's time and not only one. If you add to it the waiting time to get another opponent ( if you can get one..) that's really problematic....

That's why i suggested this 2v2 arena ( 1 on 1 would be a bit tough in my opinion ( healer v healer ) and many fights would result in a tie....)

The main problem of GvG/HA besides lack of frequent decent skill updates is a good matchmaking system. All the rank discrimination, especially in HA, could be resolved, if matches were actually set up according to player/team skill.
