New life for Guild Wars 1 on mobile?
S0larius
Sorry if this has been asked before, but a quick search didn't show any hits.
Given the blazing speeds of the new Android and IOS tablets, I wonder if ANet is giving any thought to porting our beloved GW over to these platforms?
I could see this being my number 1 mobile game on the go even long after GW2 release to work on my HoM rewards, and I think it would port very well to a touch interface given the simple movement controls.
What are your thoughts? Is this something the community would embrace? Would existing owners pay for a reduced price app to play on the go?

I thought the noobs were bad now... Could only imagine them playing on their phone.

lol.... just imagine:
Pvp -> Phone -> Touch -> 3 sec -> Dead.
PvE -> Phone -> Touch -> 3 mobs at same time -> Dead.
can't wait for easy random arenas! hahahaha

I, for one, am looking forward to farming Norn points instead of reading the paper while on the can.

haha good points. But by 'mobile' I'm really thinking tablets, not sure how you'd even see the interface on a phone lol.

Yea ok that would make it a little better but not much, you really need a mouse and keyboard. If you could do that then I might think its a good idea.

There are already some MMORPG's for Android platform...
Also, keep in mind Guild Wars System requirements , and what Tablets / Touchscreen-smartphones can offer... on the other hand; ANet is pretty busy with GW2 and WoC, no?

ipad 2 might be on the verge of being able to run GW? even if it could it'd be at lowest settings (which might not look so bad on a screen that small)
I think they are:
*dual core 1GHz CPU
*512MB RAM
At least here people know the iPad isn't the only product of it's kind ^^.
the UI seems like it could be ok, for basic functions, y'know click to attack, click to move, click to use skills, but dunno bout the rest.
but would'nt the file size be kinda big?

Besides a dedicated version for smartphones would probably also have a slimmed down gw.dat, like no highly detailed textures.

Probably the biggest problem from a technical standpoint would be that a PC and tablets (especially the iPad) run TOTALLY different processors and architectures. This would be a neat thing to see (if I had one), but it would probably require a re-write of the entire engine. Also, they are attempting to integrate tablets with the GW2 app, which supposedly has a UI to show guilds, friends, chat, maps, quests, etc.

I really would like to see this feature, maybe even only town based for the social part of the game and trading, minigames, events, guildchat etc.
Im tired of using teamviewer on iphone its just to slow, and I am certain my iphone 3gs can run the engine on low settings! some games for iphone/ipads out there have amazing looking graphics, similar to gw (dead space, Star defender for example). Also this would bring people playing guild wars 1 so it won't die when guild wars 2 comes out!
a mouse/keyboard isn't that important. Start tapping, youll get used to it!
Rotating the camera and skill use wouldnt be an issue on a touchscreen, maybe add a button for targeting but keep the option to tap on mobs/players to attack/trade
cant wait to play gw in the train to home! or add up partypoints while im on work,
