My neighbour has the following problem. He has played the game normally for the last few xears. Todax he got a new pc. GW is loading, character selection is ok, but when loading an area (like the gh) the system freezes. The only solution is to reset the pc.

This is his (new) configuration:
8 GB internal memory
Intel quad core I5 4x3.3
asus p8p67le
Gainward geforce gtx 560 ti golden sample
Windows 7 64 bits (sp1)

lastest driver from nvidia is installed

I tried to restore the settings to default. put everything to minimal. no difference.

So please help

Image line, there's a topic on here for that problem. Involves making a new shortcut specifically for new textures then opening the old shortcut to To run game itself; just search image line on guru

What Lithril means is the command line -image which I have linked
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Command_line
Just page down to the -image section. This will download (several hours) all of the gw.dat file and is best done overnight. This should stop any network problems he is having from long downloads while playing the game.

I think you are refering to the message at boot bout rebuilding (thats the only thing I found on guru, otherwise please give me the topic title).

After instalation I loaded the game with -image (before first login). The I loaded without -image. This was the first bug. I uninstalled and reinstalled without first loading the image. no effect.

Now after loading and rebooting pc for 25+ times. Mostly the system hangs on loading the first area (bout 60% of the time). 10% of he times you get in but it hangs on the 2th or 3th area you load. 30% of the time it hangs on the log-in screen (taking your time between typing in password and loging in seems to prevent this).

After the second install (without the -image option) it went further. It loaded gh, la, kamadan, gtob, kc and eotn (outpost) but hang itself when loading the HoM. after that problems where back like described before.

Hmm.

Are there any other games on his PC that you can try - see if there are random crashes outside of GW?

1. have ur friend/neighbor(hell do it urself) right click and copy the short cut of guild wars...then paste it on the desktop next to the ORIGINAL
2. tell him to rename the recent copy into LOADER
3. go into the properties of the recent copy and in the target text box add the following WITHOUT parenthesis and beginning WITH a space ( -images)
4.save then run.
5.run everytime a new build is initiated(after closing gw
6.open gw...

Did he try running GW as administrator ? ( Right click GW start icon and run as administrator )
Also check soundcard drivers, those rascals can also cause system freezing.

@Lithril,

Thnks for your help but please read what I am writing.
before the first instalation the game was run once with the -image command. I always do that when freshly installing. There wasn't a new build available what was causing this and it didn't give the error in the database (it freezes the pc not only the game and after reboot it doesn't say that the data file needed repairs as documented by other people with this bug).

I'm reasonable sure we can deal your suggestion out.

@Snograt,
Jewel Quest and Tombraider UW are both running fine.

My neighbour and me are still testing and will keep you all posted during the day (when I'm back from work).

Thanx everyone for all the help and suggestions so far.

Another thing to check is the temperatures. GW is notoriously heat sensitive, more so than most other games. It may be a long shot, but it merits a few minutes to check into.
If you need a temperature monitoring program, HWMonitor is free and easy to use. Make sure to check the temperatures while GW is running as well as when idle.

Temperature.

He is using a 70 euro CPU-fan, 4 case fans, two psu fans and the VGA has two blowers. But yeah I checked. I reckon when he starts playing the game Gwen will wine bout forgotting her coat (ow wait she does that anyway).
But yeah I checked. It has never been above 30 celcius.

On the good side, the problem seems to be solved and he has been playing the game today. It looks like it was a problem of the latest nvidia driver for the Gainward in combination with windows vista sp1. Perhaps something that affects something only GW needs. Re-installing windows 7 without sp1 but with the nvidia driver let the game run normally and so does running windows 7 with sp1 but wit the slightly older driver windows update is offering.

He is still testing different combinations, but atleast we know how to get it up and running again.

Thanks everyone for the help.
