Hey all,
I'm thinking about coming back to GW after a long break. Just perusing through the threads, I can see a lot has changed. 7 heroes...yep.
Is this a good idea? If so, is there anything I should brace myself for? Is it worth it to spend the $ to buy the campaigns again with GW2 and/or D3 probably coming out in 2011? I'm already looking into selling my laptop for roughly $400 on fleabay to finance a future gaming desktop purchase once once finals is over. I'm probably be looking at playing 2-3 hours a night. Rather not get into WoW and fall victim to the same fate as all the other addicts out there who've lost their jobs/girlfriends/lives.
Is the community still big and active? I recall almost all of my guildies left/moved on right around the time I retired. A lot of good memories back then, though my fear is that I'll end up having a hard time finding a guild full of cool, friendly people who do stuff all the time. But I'm still willing to join a new guild if it has people who play every now and then and won't put pressure on me to grind faction 24/7 or be online all the time.
Thoughts?

My first thought is that you should have looked in the Q&A forum, people ask the same question you just did pretty much every day

As for the release date of D3 i belive it's will be very late in 2011 probably in December and I don't think GW2 will be launched before early 2012.

I remember reading November 11 was release date?
As for coming back, I'd say yes, with 7 heroes it reduces the trying to get a group in quieter outposts time (though some are always better with real people). Also with zaishen missions/quests/bounties & vanquishing people still team up, the zaishens seem to be rotational so will cover some areas if you want some titles for the GW2 free goodies. Best bet though is join an active guild.

If you used to play the game, why would you need to buy it again? Unless I misunderstood and you didn't have all the campaigns before. GW is one of those games that once you buy it, you can play it whenever you want. There is no fee or anything, so play if you want to. It will always be here, regardless of when you left.
But also like Majoho said, this question gets asked a ton of times here. Really the only person who can make that decision is yourself. If the game was fun for you and you enjoyed it, then sure come back. There is tons of new stuff for you to try out and new content including the War in Kryta and the Winds of Change that is coming as well.
There is no release date for GW2 yet. Anet has not released any information regarding the release date.

And as an anwser to his original question:
No, it's not worth comming back to GW. You'll have alot of fanboys in these forums (including some mods) saying GW is still somewhat active, but that's just bullshit.
The bottom line is that GW is a dead game. Going through PvE, you'll be forced (read: forced) to play with only heroes and henchies as there isn't anyone to team up with, believe me, I just got Legendary Vanquisher a couple of months ago. I think out of the 120ish areas, there was 1 where I managed to team up with a pug, every other outpost was empty. So PvE is nothing more than a single player RPG which requires an internet connection.
On top of all this, GW PvE isn't even that amazing, as the game wasn't designed around it. The storyline is pretty good for first-timers, but has almost 0 replayability, and hence for returning players the advice is not to return as GW PvE offers nothing other games don't offer harder, better, faster and stronger.
As for PvP, it's utter crap. Anyone who PvP's (I myself got ranks in every PvP title, and I would concider myself one of the more experienced PvP'ers) will tell you that the game is completely dead.
Sure, there's people entering HA and RA, but that's just a facade for what is really going on, which is people just randomly bashing buttons. PvP in GW is no different than PvE, which is go in, spam the 8 skills on your bar (With no insight whatsoever, just spam whatever is recharged) and hope you win. GvG is the only format which is still barely breathing, but it's only a matter of time before it blows it's last breath.
In short:
Unless you want to play purely for nostalgic reasons, GW is a bad game by current standardings. It has some fun elements, but as I said, one or two fun aspects don't make a game "good", especially not a MMO. When there's a complete inactivity in a Massive Only Multiplayer game -which is based on activity- you simply can not, not call it a bad game.

Ya its always worth coming back, no subscription and cheap games. Still a lot of people around too. But since you were away you might not be aware of one other update, thats the one that anything Killed u man says is to be ignored cause he is a huge douche.
In Short: Yes.

its personal prefence imo, i am really enjoying the game atm after quitting after a couple years, including all the pve related stuff.
my answer would be to log on, try some pvp and pve and see what you think. no one can tell you if your going to enjoy a game unless you actually try it =]
Lithril Ashwalker
heres some advice..dont come back to it...too many RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOING pvp bugs... bridge glitches in HA still...during relic runs..FA turtle still attacks obstructed enemies ill that enemy is dead wasting time...and still too many botters.

Hey, I clearly said: If you play for nostalgic reasons, you can still enjoy GW.
But if that's not the case, GW is a bad game. Just because you guys enjoy GW doesn't mean it's a good game. The sole fact that there's barely anyone playing it anymore shows that GW simply isn't that "competitive" anymore in today's market.
Did I say GW always was a bad game? No, GW was a good game. It even had reasonably good PvE, but again, it's so severly outdated (No updates in the past 4 years, unless you wanna call 2 quest chains an update) and has no end-game.
I'm really sorry, but you can not, you simply can not call GW a good game. If it were, people would still be swarming around it, which clearly they're not.
Buy GW for:
-Nostalgic Reasons
-HoM
Other than that, there's far better alternatives for whatever you're looking for in a game.
Edit: And the reason I still post on these forums is because I still play for both reasons mentioned above. I also will buy GW2, and thus I'll just hang around GWGuru untill it's get released. (I alrdy have a guru 2 acount)
And when someone asks an honest question, I'm going to give an honest anwser. I gave statements, I backed them up with my own experiences and noone here can disprove the statements I made because they come directly from in-game experience.
