Quick question on macros
Atro
Hey guys,
I was wondering if simple macros where allowed, for example if I wanted to make one of my macro keys open all bags simply because the key is easier to access than f9 while im tanking and also a macro key that enters a trade chat response for me (wts blah bla blah)
Thanks for your help.

Im interested to know this as well, cause opening bags and binding heros 5-8 would be nice.

i dont think macro's are disallowed its only when stuff can happen while your not at the keyboard they have a problem with

Simple macro's of a few keybinds are perfectly legit, i myself use mouse macro's for cancel action and wepset 1-4 because i'm bad at set swapping and have done for years.
It's only full automation that's disallowed, obviously.

There have been many answers about this topic. Here is Gaile Gray's answer, A topic saying this is untrue, and a quote.

Oh one last thing, its not a G15 given out by Anet, its just a keyword with programmable keys, is that fine?

There should be no problem with using a macro as you intend. Chat macros may cause a problem if they are automated.

G15 keyboards are allowed and they come packed with macro keys. Basically as far as i know the rule is simple. As long as you don't macro afk then you should be ok. But if you do too advanced macros doing a whole sequence of farming runs, risk is you will be caught by their anti-bot code seeing identical patterns repeated over and over.
Simple macro keys no problem! At a time when I was VQ I just had a macrokey for C, Shift-Ctrl-Space, made my C-Space experience less cumbersome
I can imagine it's great with microing certain hero skills, if you want them to do it same time you use certain key skills of your bar. Then just trigger macro key on same skill key in GW and automatically trigger the hero skills as well.

I feel they should really come out and say a little more about macros.
Not to list every specific use and whether its forbidden or not but a few clear guidelines.
That's the operative word here clear because at the moment a lot of people are nervous about the whole thing of macros and expect they will be banned for using them.
I am assuming that anything that gives a direct game advantage over another player is forbidden but that other uses are fine, but I would love to have it spelled out.

To put text into the chat box, there are 2 simple methods:
1. Type in the text, and before you hit Enter, highlight it and hit ctrl-c (copy). Then just hit ctrl-v (paste) + Enter to display the text again.
2. Type in the text and hit Enter. When you want to display it again, hit Enter to open the chat box. Hit Up-arrow (or Down-arrow) to scroll through the chat text until you come to the desired text and then hit Enter again to display it.
A macro would involve a series of multiple keystrokes to do a series of things, not simply reassigning a function to a different key or button. Even assigning a macro function to display "WTS blah blah blah" would not be a macro as it is really only one function.
