A Runner's Code Of Ethics and A Runnee's Code of Ethics
jon comgree
aight heres an idea for a code of ethics that a runner and runnee should have.
runner:
-polite to customers
-You set the price and when you run it. Dont get told what to do by the runnees.
-Scamming is bad. Ripping off people is ok because its an opinion in ones eyes by the phrase ripping people off.
- If a runnee leaves after paying you, You do NOT have to give them their money back. Its their own fault for leaving.
runnee:
- THE RUNNER SETS THE RULES, OBEY THEM.
- If you dont like the way the runner does it then leave, dont stay to tick em off.
- Pay where and when the runner says and do as the runner says, as i said b4 if u dont like it u can leave.
- dont afk if the runner asks you not to. If u do, atleast have the decency to tell him/her and die so if a wipe might be needed.
- dont be rude to the runner, if you are he may leave and take your money .
- If you leave after paying and the runner doesnt pay you back, YOU ARE NOT SCAMMED, ITS YOUR FAULT FOR LEAVING.
just my ideas of rules each of the pple should follow .

just a wild guess: op is a runner
on a completely unrelated note, i once had a droks run hijacked. halfway through, one of the runees kept zoning until everyone payed him 500g.
people are so funny

Seems like a somewhat biased code...

Out of a thousand runs I would say that I have only been scammed about 25 times out of that 1000.
Even still, I don't run for a set price anymore...regardless of the run. I only run for tips. That way, I can't be scammed...and I have a chance for customers to tip me high amounts.
For example I got a 20e tip once for a run from Sunspear Sanctuary to The Kodash Bazaar. By just doing tips runs I have been able to afford two sets of obsidian and 2 chaos gloves.
People who charge set amounts get less customers because there is a less chance people are willing to pay that price. A guy the other day in Sunspear Sanctuary said he was running to The Kodash bazaar from there for 25k and I was doing the same run there at the same time for tips. Everyone laughed at him and I got a full 8/8 group.
Just a tip to the runners out there...customers want freedom in what they can give you and you will be more respected as well as get more customers if you run for tips.

I used to run people between Ascalon City and Lion's Arch (and vice-versa) with my Dervish. Once or twice I had the type who would run with you. That is kinda annoying. I also used to run from Ascalon City to Sanctum Cay or deeper into Maguuma. Not sure why but one guy wanted to be run from Ascalon City to Druid's Overlook. He was fresh out of pre and level 3 ... O_o

I wonder how this would work if you were running yourself.
Would you randomly ragequit when you didn't like how you ran?

18+ months I was running dungeons a lot on my sin and I'd get scammers every 10 runs or so, and then I'd get someone who can't follow the most simple instructions almost every run. I used to solo run Raven's (20k per person, for a 25min run was very good money, and the run was in demand so it only took a few minutes to fill the party), and back then I was the only sin who ran it, so I'd ask people to wait and not die, but ofc theres always 1 person who takes it upon himself to run along with you. It did get to the point where I just said "If you die, I'll stop running until you're ressed". I stopped running dungeons because I could not handle the sheer stupidity I was witnessing on a day to day basis.
The rules should be:
Runner - Know how to instruct and lead people.
Runnee - Know how to follow instructions and be led.

Runnee - Know how to follow instructions and be led.

Since the thread is kind of biased we might balance it out with:
Runners:
- Don't start runs that you will quit on halfway through because you "gotta go eat"
- Be honest about your level of experience on the run
- Don't clog up the local chat bickering with other runners about who is better
Runee's
- Don't distract the runner by constantly asking him questions about his build.
- Don't draw aggro to the other runnee's without checking for possible survivors in the group.
- Don't be rude, stuff happens. Runners sometimes do die or make mistakes. Don't be an ass to the rest of the group and bail the second something doesn't go perfectly.

thats not biased at all...
and i think voodoo has it right. it essentially boils down to runner: be nice and dont ragequit. runnees dont be impatient and dont be an ass about everything.

The very few runs i can do myself i only tend to do for guildies/alliance - they understand i have a tendancy to get lost easily ( dodgy satnav from nick the traveller lol ) but i do somehow tend to make it to the target place - yes i can even got lost in my gh at times.
Ive seen droks runners fail and get abuse - specially from a bad spawn , lag spikes that hit the party or general bad luck.
One thing i do see is most runners will try and get you there no matter what and ive seen runner who have failed a few times take the party for free to make up for it - the runner has a sense of duty , but often the customers seem to have an issue with everything told and bitch about it.
Bristlebane
OP very biased, I wouldn't do a run by him
But I like what others commented.
In the end it's all common sense.
If there's any rules needed, TSS nailed it.

i used to do alot of eotn tours pretty much any run sept dungeons when i strapped for cash i really stopped doing it because people would just scam and i really stopped asking for runs because id pay up front and go afk ( i know my fault i got scammed ) i even had runners who where running me somewhere stop see someone wanting something and paying more that was completely diff from what i wanted ( my fault again for going afk )
when i ran if i died i would do the run for free but i guess it doesnt really matter if a small population has ethics and the rest don't its a game with older players going while newer players ( or lazy shits ) just do there best to scam and beg their way through the game its kinda pathetic actually

Here is how I see and how I do it
Runner
- Respect the customer.
- Give the customer options on when and how to pay. (Before/during/after the run) of course there may be some exceptions.
- Try to contact the customer and keep them updated even if you know you wont be able to run them anytime soon because it let's them know that their request hasn't been ignored.
- Refund them if its your fault.
Customer
- Respect the runner
- Understand that the runner has other customers and that they have a life outside and wont dedicate their personal time to you.
- Everyone is a human and humans make mistakes, don't rage the runner if he messses up.
- Tell them if you go AFK.
- Don't expect the run right when you request it.
I could go on all day about this.
