New to the game and lost.

Hello everyone, I bought “Guild Wars complete Collection” just a few days ago.
I am extremely lost in terms of what to do. I will be sure to read the other post for new payers.

Here are my questions:
How can I make in-game friends to party with?
Are there any outside of the game tools I need to know about?
Any useful tips about managing my time while still enjoying the game?

Any other tips would be nice also.

Where did you start? If you started in Prophecies you won't be teaming for the most part until you get past tutorial "Presearing" mode.

About what to do:
Well, I suggest you start the game by finding a class that you enjoy. If you've already done that just do your secondary and primary quests which will take you through the story of the campaign where you started. Don't worry about your secondary profession you can change it later in the game.

Also if you haven't figured it out yet, GW is not a solo game. Except for the starting area of Prophecies, you'll have a hard time going around by yourself. For these purposes look for other players, invite henchmen to your party (standing by the exit of the town usually) or grab your heroes (NPC) when you get to Nightfall (if you didn't start there) and Eye of the North. The heroes are a smarter version of the henchmen and you can modify their skill bar, weapons and armors.

The best way to make friends is to find yourself a newbie-friendly guild. I suggest looking through the recruitment section of these forums instead of doing it in-game.

Also GW wiki is your best friend. You can access it here: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page or by typing /wiki (the thing you're searching for - optional) in game.

1) For quests and missions walk through or general information, look for them on the wiki page.

2) I always visit guru page because everyday there will be something interesting to read and find out about.

3) I get a little confused at times about the walk through written in wiki page because I am a more visual person so I would visit a friend's youtube page (
LiquidSolenoid - http://www.youtube.com/user/LiquidSolenoid) to watch his vids before going into the mission so I have an idea what to expect. (I hate dying... :P) He is systematic and have all the mission runs in normal and hard mode for all the campaigns.

These are the usual 3 places I go to when it comes to GW.

For builds, I sometimes visit pvxwiki but I found that reading guru regarding skills and all is way better. So I only visit pvxwiki when I read about a certain build I find interesting here.

One way to meet people or make friends might be:

Hang around Lion's Arch, Kaineng Center, Shing Jea Monastery, or the Great Temple of Balthazar. Sometimes international districts, but mostly american district 1. These cities seem to have a large number of socially-oriented players hanging out talking.

Best way to make friends is to join an active and social guild
It might be harder today to find active guilds but there are some.

Another important thing is.. don't rush through the game, enjoy it!
If you can get a run by someone, don't. Running is mostly for elder people who saw the same content 100 of of times and just want to move quickly past it.

There are still guilds that are recruiting, be sure to check announcements here at gwguru too. Or check places previously mentioned, there sure are people who are willing to help.

Get familiriased to game mechanics and pay attention to how different skills work. So it´s easier to come up with combinations that work well. Or if you aren´t experimenting type of person, be sure to check pvx wiki http://www.gwpvx.com/Main_Page for working builds. Even if you don´t have all the skills, you can get some ideas for your own builds there.

If you are considering playing Guild Wars 2 when it´s out, you could consider getting some titles and such stuff also as they give you some (cosmetic) rewards in the sequel. Doing bonus objectives of the missions is good way to start gathering titles.

Managing time is matter of preference, of course. If you like doing some exploring, do some secondary quests besides the primary ones, they take you to places one wouldn´t otherwise go and they give some gold, exp and skills too. If you want to gather quicky money for your new armor set and other gear, you could play the storyline quickly through and get familiarised to the economy and farming to make things go smoother.
