I seriously think Anet should sell some GW2 merchandise to us mere mortals,
it would allow us to show how hyped we are about GW2,
we would spread the word about GW2 to others,
and it would bring in a bit extra income to Anet.

I see no harm in this? I want my GW2 shirt/mouse/mousepad/cup/13.3" laptop decal/usb flash drive, ...

Somehow the cup made me lol - i dont know why but soon as cup is mentioned in any merchandise i have to lol as it seems to remind me of small companies trying to get in on a big companies action or take advantage of an event - if your in the uk you will know what i mean with the royal wedding approaching and the amount of mugs thats appeared. Also mugs always seem so tacky :S.

Tbh anything except mugs would be great to purchase - specially t-shirts and caps.

I would like that too. I am in South Asia and would never get to see anything at all, let alone get anything. I really do not mind a mug with Daniel Dociu's art on it!

LOL I probably would be one of the ones sporting a mug... especially if it were oversized. I drink a lot of big, steaming cups of hot tea and have a bit of a "themed mug fetish" as a result.

I wouldn't mind a spring/fall weight jacket, either. I'd likely wear that more than a t-shirt. Kids would wear t-shirts or caps, though.

I'd definitely be more than happy to be a walking advertisement for GW2!!

As for convention plans. A-net said they were going to ComicCon in San Diego, Gamescon in Germany and PAX west in Seattle. I don't think there is any convention in the south east that they ever attend.

Find a big enough one and they might do like they did at NYC ComicCon and PAX East. They just had a meet & greet at a hotel near the convention center.

Well, some of the player-made organizations get extra stuff at conventions and give it out as prizes for their contests, so you could try winning one of those in hopes of getting something.

I'm sure ANET will sell some form of merchandise, as a few months ago they had a survey to see what most people want (their were choices from hats and T-shirts to chess boards and keychains)

Sure it is, ANET is going to the conventions that will have the most people and get the most publicity. Its not that they don't want to bring their stuff to other conventions, its just too expensive to do so. (Note, I live just as far away from any big conventions as you do and have not attended any conventions with ANET either)

Also, all GW2 related topics should go to GW2guru, not posted here.

buying/selling the code is against the EULA. The codes are not allowed to be sold for money (be it real money or in-game money). They can be given away, but buying the code can get your account banned.

I would totally wear a GW2 shirt, myself, and I'm no kid It would go so nicely with my other geeky shirts!

Lithril - as far as conventions go, they are expensive to attend, and the truth of the matter is, there really isn't any large gaming conventions in the South-east. There's Dragon*Con, which is a sci-fi/comic convention, so not quite the target audience...and is also a week after PAX and not long after GamesCom.

Also, attending conventions is exhausting and does take a toll on your health, no matter how careful you are. Ask anyone who goes to cons about 'con plague' (I was out of commission for a full week once), not to mention the lack of sleep that gets built up...

I attend and staff conventions, so I'm saying all of this from experience. I'd love Anet to attend a convention in the Chicago area, but I also know that there aren't really any really big ones in the area that target their same audience - Gencon is the only real possibility (since Wizard World/Chicago Comic-Con isn't really that big nor good, since they refuse to keep up with what's popular right now, and C2E2 is still pretty small), and that's more tabletop and card games than video games.
