I have two mercenary hero slots in total (yes, yes, I am retarded; I only bought one slot and then decided I needed another instead of simply buying the 3-pack in the first place) BUT ANYWAYS - for some reason on my main character I cannot access the mercenary that is registered in that second slot... their name never shows up on the "add a hero" dropdown menu.
What is weirder is that all my other pvp and pve characters, other than my one main pve character, CAN access that second slot mercenary.
Anyone have any ideas on what is going on?
EDIT: Nevermind! I managed to fix it... had to add my warrior himself as a merc in the second slot - at which point I could then at least see his own name (though grayed out) in the drop-down menu when I was on him. Then I went back on my mesmer, removed my warrior merc, re-registered my mesmer as a merc, and then I could see him on my warrior finally... sorry to be ridiculously confusing.

The character your playing can't be used as a Merc while you are using it.

Some doofus closed the other thread before the question could be properly answered, so I'll post this as a new thread.
When you add new Mercenary heroes by purchasing new slots, you have to visit the guy in Great Temple of Balthazar again, to "register" the new slot(s), even if you've previously registered slots on that character.
When you "register", you don't need to actually ad the character (as the OP did) and then change it - you can simply "Cancel" the registration, but your new slots will then show up anyway. This applies to any character that you want to use Merc slots with.
(So there was no need for the OP to register the Warrior and then re-register the Mesmer.)
I recently discovered this when I bought a second 3-pack.
