I'm going to China for 4 months and was wondering, will the firewall block Guild Wars? Do I need to use a VPN?

Well, the game has a big enough impact in China for the game to have Chinese districts...so I would assume you don't.
I doubt the thousands of players in China are all using a program to surpass the firewall.

Unfortunately those are districts for Traditional Chinese, so only Taiwanese use it. (which sucks because I can't type Chinese in Guild Wars, all the simplified characters are banned)

Yar, I know. But I didn't find any updates to the status or if they have extended it. So this was it that I found.

I moved to Shenzhen China 8 months ago and other then the internet being slow as hell I have had only one issue. Issue - I got Dhumm'd because they though I was hacked. It took me about 3 days to explain that I had moved to China and then I had my account back. Was kind of funny was doing a deep run and all of a sudden this big old grim reaper comes and bam I'm banned.

Bottom line, they used to have local servers but after that deal expired you have to connect to servers elsewhere in the world. Hence the slowness. But it works.
