Is this "illegal"

Everybody by now knows about the Argos Soft price checker, which checks the Kamadan market for rough prices on items.

However i have noticed a new piece of software that has been uploaded, which (when vanquishing) tells you how many enemies are left in the area.

I haven't used this, however is this breaking the EULA?

As this could be very useful for vanquishing

well...if it were a regular textmod I would say go ahead, however, if the program is able to tell you how many critters you have left then that means it's getting into the game itself (like a bot might). That would make me very nervous.

besides...just Wiki the area you're about to VQ to see how many critters it has normally and then you already have a progress bar on your interface anyways...all this kinda makes this new thing sorta redundant.

Couldn't it technically do this, now don't quote me on this, by using the pixels displayed upon getting 1/xxx lets say 1/10 for arguments sake, determine that the red bar is 1/10th of the rest of the unshaded bar, if that makes sence :P

When in doubt - don't use it. You can ask support if the program looks ok. They don't forbid programs that only affect your own pc.

Interesting. Does it get its total enemies info from averaging wiki vanquish information or from packet sniffing or something? I'm not going to try it, pretty careful with such .exe's.

Doesn't seem like it'd even help.

There are a few areas that only update as enemies come into radar, so that'd change rapidly.

As a friend pointed out, this would be a stupid thing to get banned over, in the sense that this is pretty much a useless aide. You can already estimate how many enemies you have left by looking at how much progress you have on your vanquish bar and comparing it to the whole bar, or something like that. Also, assuming you can get the right number, this does nothing to solve the most agonizing problem of a vanquish: knowing where that last mob is.

Chances are that you can get banned from running this, and chances are that it won't help you anyways. Don't bother.

Support will always tell you that they do not approve ANY 3rd party program. If you're worried about it, don't use it. You CAN get banned for anything, and if you'd rather not risk it you should just use the wiki estimate.

Would it really help that much.

Its not telling you where they are just how many, doesn't help you find them.

Worst case scenario would it to report zero and be wrong because then we would get loads of posts about it.

Now if the mapping aid would to put a load of red dots on it showing enemies as well as unexplored map areas that would be useful.

I thought it would be best to leave it be

Cheers for the advice

The only vanquishing tool that would actually be useful would be one that actually puts enemy locations on the map. Since doing so would require doing things to the client that would most likely get you banned, it's not going to happen.

At best, this tool is simply so lazy people don't have to visit the wiki for approximate foe numbers. At worst, it's a big sign to Anet screaming "Ban me!"

when vanquishing you have a square box that tells you how many mobs you have killed then look up on wiki it tells you how many are in that area, then just do some simple math and look a there you know how many mobs are left.
(excluding pops but simple estimating will still get you pretty darn close)
so why even take the risk. But I guess math has become like reading a lost art.
to much work.

It doesn't look very useful to me. It obviously just gives you info you could get by simple math, and, unless it actually does sniff packets or whatever, it probably doesn't account for pop-ups, etc., anyway. (Of what real use is the number of foes remaining when you have to kill them all anyway.)

So, I'd say it's either relatively useless (but handy) or it's not allowed by the EULA, and you'd have to check with ANet to find out which it is.

If you do use this nifty application, I hope that no disciplinary action will be implemented. As the above poster (Sierraa) stated,"You can get banned for everything" that is obviously incorrect, thus giving false information.

However, what you should take into consideration is:

Life lesson number 1
"Don't get caught."

Actually, if you take a close look at the EULA, they CAN ban you for anything, since they kept the wording loose enough to cover all potential infractions. They can end their service whenever they feel like it.

But, as for the APP, the in-game indicator is quite enough for the purpose.

Even the trade spam makes me nervous. I'm probably wrong about this, but it kind of implies to someone like me who is unfamiliar with how it works, that a program is monitoring the trade banter. Now, a program is not a person and neither is a bot so..what's the difference?

Umm...no, wiki can give you a max and a min and then the middle ground. When doing my VQs very very rarely did I get the exact number shown on wiki and often I would get less than the previously recorded min or more than the previously recorded max.

Assuming this program will give you the exact number 100% of the time then it's far more accurate, though not necessarily more useful, than wiki.

Hello there,

I want to use the new programm argos soft released these days, the "gwcamunlocker" which, duh, unlocks the camera and lets you move it around freely.

Whoever I'm a bit suspicious.. it could be a spyware or something like that.. or it may cause my account to get banned for using it. Whats you opinion on this?

Once, again, the best advice is to ask Support at [email protected]. Put 3rd Party Program Question in the subject line so it will get directed to someone who can answer. They will tell you they do not offer support (in case it messes up your game program, they won't help), but should also be able to tell you if the program is forbidden.

It's not like the exe is connecting to their servers, it's scanning the local side memory for information about the instance you're in and making it nifty. Enough digging through packets and you can probably find out how many enemies are in the instance WITHOUT a program like this.
