Leveling to 20 from Prophecies. (I just got back after 4 years).

I haven't played in such a while. I missed the game, though, and decided to start fresh.

I made a Prophecies character and she's a level 2 ranger at the moment. I used to know all the tricks and quests to get to 20 but much has changed since then.

Here's what I'd like to accomplish:
  • Get to level 20 as quick as possible.
  • Possibly achieve the Survivor title doing so.
  • I've taken a liking to the ranger Norn armor. What do I need to do and where do I need to go to get it?

Basically I got to level 20 once and just want to get there quickly again without repeating the whole story line. What steps should I take from Prophecies to achieve that goal? Are there any quests that I should take and if so in what order?

I also checked storage and I have quite a few ectoplasms. How much are these worth nowadays?

Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is posted in the wrong forum.

Get a run to Lion's Arch

Go to D'Allesio Seaboard and level up to 10 (search this forum for the trick how to do it)

Go to Eye of the North --> Gunnar's Hold

Go the Dwarven Boxing dungeon to level up very quickly and with no risk.

Alternatively, you can go to Factions (Kaineng City) from Lion's Arch and get a crapload of experience from doing all those easy quests they give you in KC.

In Prophecies it's probably fastest and easiest to reach 20 in Pre (and it's a nice area to be in while you do it). Plus you get the LDoA title as a bonus.

Here is a discussion about reaching level 10 fast in Pre. After that the Vanguard quests become available and it's a simple matter of farming the high-level enemies that spawn while one of them is active.

Estimated time: ~10 hours, tops. Probably faster. You should be able to get it over a weekend. After which you can catch a run to LA/Droks and get on with your end-game.

PS: 1 ecto is currently worth about 7k. They usually sell 14 for 100k.

I'm sorry for bumping this thread but I wanted to say thank you to all that replied. I got my ranger up to 20 with a full set of Norn armor. Exactly what I wanted.

(:

You guys rock!

Hi! Hope it's ok to go slightly off topic, but I have a question for Urcscumug/anyone else who knows about LDoA:

Is it really 10hrs of farming to do 10-20? I'm currently close-ish to 11. I thought even with farming the mobs you still wouldn't level THAT fast. Plus I seem to die a lot (new to game so could just be I still fail at warrior)

But if it really is just a 10hr grind I'm doing that today + tomorrow

Depends on the Vanguard quest you farm, really. Farmer Hammet is among the easiest to farm because you get the baddies right outside Foible's Fair so you can just rezone and kill them non-stop.

It also helps if you have a pet and the bonus imp (you also get a lvl 20 pet in the process and they're extra help). Well, the pet mostly as bait.

What's your secondary? /R is the most widely used, mainly for Troll Unguent.

What's your main weapon? People usually go for sword because of Sever+Gash which gives Bleeding and Deep Wound, and it's easy to get yourself a decent 10-14 sword crafted by Ayala in Ascalon. Remember to also customize it.

Make sure you got all the +7 armor pieces. The 50 iris flowers can be farmed fastest outside Ashford Abbey (get out the gate, turn right, go down the hill using Alt to spot flower, pick up, map to Abbey, repeat).

If you got some money, buy 2 Charr salvage kits and some runes/insignia and add to your armor. Runes: +1 strength, +1 sword, and vigor are most desirable, then optionally one absorption and vitae for any empty spot. Insignia: if you're gonna farm the elementalists in Farmer Hamnet then Dreadnought; Sentry or Survivor are also good. Prices: 8-9k for each kit, 4-5k for Vigor, 1k for Strength, 2k for Sword, Vitae and Dreadnought should be very cheap (100-200g), 600-700g for Stalwart and Survivor.

Make sure you get a shield with Strength requirement or if requiring Tactics, very low req (no higher than 3, maybe 5). Remember that any drop shield will give you 8 AL even if you don't meet requirement, and the quest Unsettling Rumors gives a shield with 9 total AL and no requirement.

Get all the quest rewards if you haven't already, the total XP is nothing to sneeze at.

Speaking of Tactics vs Strength, put as much as possible into Strength and Sword, with leftovers in Wilderness Survival for Unguent. Only put the absolute drags into Tactics. Don't bother with the pet if you don't want it, it does feeble damage and you can get a lvl 20 pet in Post anytime with minimal effort.

Skills: Frenzy, Sever Artery, Gash, Troll Unguent, Healing Signet. Add Res Signet if you play with someone else. Comfort Animal is optional.

I'm warrior/monk, which I figured was decently strong for survivability and stuff.

I've been lazy about getting decent armour, am trying to kill several birds with one stone and get lots of gifts of the huntsman, and still need more iris for the pack (I've been farming using the abbey) I guess I need to farm gear like mad today - according to the wiki Hammet is up tomorrow, so I guess I farm armour today and xp tomorrow night *makes note to buy coffee*

I think I've done all the quests - at any rate, all I can find.

Silly question, but if I hang on to the daily, I can keep farming it over several days right? It won't disappear from my log when the daily resets?

Many thanks for all the info :-)

I guess you can emulate Troll Unguent with Healing Breeze. And/or use Shielding Hands. The problem with those is that Northlands Charr Chaots have Shatter Enchantment, but just for farming Vanguard you should be fine.

Yes, you can keep farming the quest for as long as you'd like. But be aware of the following:

Quote:
If you change to level 14 or 17 while in an explorable area, you will have to abandon the quest and retake it to spawn the higher level foes; it is not enough to rezone.

And would presumably then have to settle for whatever daily was available that day? I mean I can't re-take the Hammet one?

Still, 10-14 in one night would be good, and I'd also maybe have some time for sleep, which would be a definite bonus.

If the quest has changed then yeah you'd lose it when you abadon it, and have to wait for it to come back into the rotation.

Usually people attempting this do it all within the same 24h period, so they don't have this issue. It's not that hard and it certainly doesn't involve losing any sleep, you just need about 10 straight hours. It's just incredibly boring.

Personally, I'd advise you to take it easy and not to grind it very much. You can also grind other Vanguard quests, such as Utini, Nadya, Bandits etc. Does it make a difference if you get it all in one day or over 1-2 weeks of casual play?

The sleep loss is because I will only get home 21:00 UTC and need to head out again 09:00 URC . . . giving me 12hrs. But it's all good, I can probably get it done in two sessions anyway. I thought when I started that this would take months, and I have little patience Would much rather do one long grind than dailies all summer.

Many thanks again for all the info. I have to say, this community has been awesome so far :-)
