Hi,

I can't win the quest yet - normal mode - no conso - main profession D/w

ok so no enchants / no hex / no conditions.
"Spirit spam" & so (paragon ? didnt unlock them yet for this guy .. )

- can pets be usefull ? I think it can be nice, but didnt reach the boss with them, so i can't tell
- what is a working strategy, i must kill spirit ? I tried but seems kinda pointless they respawned all ultra fast...didnt kill the second the first was back (must equip 4 * spirit o fury ?) so i easily run of mana
- signet envs ?
- how many "healers" are needed, dont they have tons of mana problem?
- can we "DAZE" him for the win ?

didn't found yet any nice balanced team between skills for winning him vs skills for winning the arena (always loosing LAST wave of course, boring^^)

(I take any screen of team, of course)

thx for helping !

some other questions

- how many time is require for *the boss part only* ? 5 - 10 mins ? 30 mins if ultra fast ?

- ive read somewhere you can flag your hero away before taking chest and so winning 8 * the drops from chest ? True ? Does this work ?

- read somewhere a "door trick" : Still exists or it was years ago ? like begin in the room before killing the last monster, so door stay open

- read on wiki after you kill him lot of monsters spawn ...where do they spawn ?, is it hard, are you overhelmed / if you die - quest is done ?
or its kinda nothing & no danger at all (when i ll finish to kill him , i'd just like not to fail stupidly this long quest)

If you go head-on against Mallyx without using any glitches I suggest either SY or a ST rit because of Summoning Shadows & his ability to remove enchantments swiftly.

The Ebony Citadel is a tricky mission as it has a mix from all the four sub-zones and a big monkey on top of it. I recommend you use "Save Yourselves!" and a defensive ST ritualist as your main sources of protection. Use either a Ritualist healer or a WOH / Healing Burst monk with little enchantments. Damage classes should not matter too much, as long as they do not rely on hexes or conditions.

You should utilize hero flags for the waves. I usually flag my heroes in a nice formation around the High Priest and I don't have to move them much. I suggest you prioritize your targets in the following manner: Rage Titans -> Torture Webs -> (Margonite Anur Ki) -> Dream Rider -> any melee. In this mission I prioritize melee really high as the AI tends to kite them a lot and more often than not in the wrong direction. And obviously while they kite they will not be casting as much so it's not really desirable. Anyway. Learn from where Rage Titans and Torture Webs come from and deal with them as soon as possible, they do the most damage.

As for Mallyx himself, the encounter shouldnt' last more than a few minutes. Once you enter the Citadel he will be an ally for a moment after the cutscene, utilize this time he isn't attacking you and run behind him where the Spirits of Anguish lie. Place down all of your spirits (except Shadowsong, because he will heal himself with Consume Torment) and get ready.

Mallyx will summon monsters at 75%, 50%, and 25%. Whenever he spawns these monsters be ready to deal with them and ignore Mallyx until the last of the spawn is dead. This way you won't get overwhelmed. Spirits of Anguish should be TOP priority. have Gazes of Fury at the ready when you see him cast Unyielding Anguish. This spell CAN be interrupted.

That's about it, if you run into any problems - poke me here.

A while back, I had this idea of equipping all my heroes with a pet just for fun and the option just in case. That was when I had a pet then and found it very useful for many things. Many people say pets aren't that great but they can actually do a lot, especially on certain mission.

Eg:

Pets are actually great for killing what's his face -Shiro, the Factions' boss - with. Just one can put him down quick. If you went in with 4, he dies within 30 seconds.

Another place I find pets useful is the Eternal Grove mission.

Sorry, have to finish this after a few minutes of break. Work calls.

For mallyx, a term with CS necro, Rits with heals and Mes may be a better idea.
And I have heard that para term works well too, but I never tried that.

Huh. Doing some research, I'm wondering about the possibility of BiP + two Psychic Distraction mesmers (with the skill disabled prior to mallyx) locked onto target, and then supplying a source of daze/decreased casting speed. Possibly frustration, Shared Burden, Stolen speed, or BHA, anything maintainable. From then on you might be golden as far as using enchants, conditions, and hexes, everything would be interrupted. Note, I say use two, to make sure things do get interrupted (and they would need to be locked on), because the disables wouldn't work. I suggest those merely for the interrupts, though a selection of interrupts (power spike/return/drain/leech sig/etc) could be enough too. May try it at some point.

The earthbind solution sounds as if it'd work extremely well, too.

Fair enough. It might be fun to try at some point - being able to use hexes/enchants would mean a heck of a difference to be sure. <_< I've never personally fought Mallyx, ironically since I've cleared the DoA a dozen times at the least, so I'm just talking theory from my reading the wiki.

For this mish I would go with a dedicated ST defense rit, The usual SoS, and a n/rt (unless you got merc) SoGM. All three can use siphon spirit for emanage. That many spirits seems to neutralize mallyx, and it works for defending the center too. Stick gaze of fury on your ST and you are going to have to micro that gaze so it hits mallyx's spirits. A panic helps great at the start and is fine vs mallyx as long as you flip to passive while fighting him (flip back to active when fighting his spawns.) Rest can be another healer, a commandagon, and then either 3rd healer or ranger or para, pets can go on those guys if you like.

For enchantless derv build I was running around under grenth's avatar (just for lifesteal), putting up battle standard of honor, and spamming banishing strike, crippling victory and reap impurities. (again nothing vs mallyx but he's 10% of the mission and you can just not use those skills fighting him...) Add FGJ and SY to taste. Not amazing but it will get the job done. Going Dragonslash w/brawling headbutt and Earthbind on your ST may work better. (You can still spam banishing if you want to..)
