Hi All,
After browsing this site and the Wiki I've seen lots of info on class skills and some of them being found in specific campaigns, now my question is this, do the campaign specific skills need to be unlocked by playing that campaign or are they automatically available by playing a later campaign?
e.g. are the Factions campaigns available to buy or unlock in Nightfall without playing Factions?
Thanks in advance,
S.
A Question On Skills

At least in PvE, you can't learn skills that come from a campaign you don't own.
That's the shortest version. To be more complex: all skills are differentiaded into Core, Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall and EotN. Core skills can be acquired in all three campaigns, the others are only taught by skill trainers of that campaign. Not all trainers teach all skills of that campaign (although unlocking a skill with Balthazzar faction lets all trainers in the campaign teach you that skill - you could unlock a skill and then just play the campaign until you get to the first skill trainer, who will then be able to teach you that skill.). If you don't have the campaign, you physically can't get to the trainer.
It goes even further: if you use a signet of capture on a boss that has a skill from another campaign, one you don't have access to (many EotN bosses), you can't capture that skill. It'll be greyed out (or not listed).

If you own the campaign, you don't have to play it or be on that continent to use them. You can buy them from Kamadan/Kaineng/Lion's Arch without doing much in each campaign.
If it's just for heroes you don't need to own the campaigns, just buy skill sets.

The short answer is no, you either have to buy the campaign or you have to buy skill packs.

In answer to the OP's question: no, you can't buy Factions skills in Nightfall. There is a set of "core" skills common to all campaigns, but beyond that you need to go to each campaign to get the skills. Factions skills are almost all available in the first city you get to (Kaineng Center), but the other campaigns, as I've said, have skill trainers scattered everywhere.

If you have the preview thing activated, can you cap them then?

Not true, there are plenty of skills (particularly in the Prophecies and Nightfall campaigns) that are only available from skill trainers later in the game, unless you've unlocked them with Balthazar faction first (which, given that he's a new player, doesn't seem likely)...

"...While unlocks chiefly benefit PvP-only characters, there are some benefits of unlocking skills for roleplaying characters:
Unlocked non-elite skills are available from all skill trainers of the appropriate campaign, allowing you to buy the non-elite skill earlier than if relying on each skill trainer's default set.
Roleplaying characters can learn any unlocked non-elite or elite skill by using a skill tome.
Unlocked skills are available for heroes, so having a skill unlocked will allow the character to use it on their heroes in PvE..."

Thanks for the responces guys, I've got Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns, so I guess I'll just work through them to unlock the skills.
Oh and does anyone know when the first snare skill becomes available to Warriors in Prophecies, chasing mobs around the map is becoming a bit boring as my hnchmen scatter and tend to run dirctly away from me (insert rolling eyes smiley here).
