What's the point of dedicating rare/expensive minis?
UnicornStampede
What's the point of dedicating rare/expensive minis? Do you get those exact minis that you dedicated in GW2? I know you can dedicated any unique mini for 50/50, so what's the point of dedicating a mini ghostly/etc?
EtherealSkys
Nope, you're exactly right - which is why very few people dedicate the most expensive minis, only those with ectos to throw away, and show off how they can afford to dedicate rare minis - though even those people would probably prefer to show off their unded minis.

Hmm, it's not like you can tell if someone's mini is dedicated or not when they display it.
To each their own. Some people care about HoM points and a green mini means a point. Others see the value first and would prefer to sell an undedicated green for a nice chunk of cash rather than dedicate it and sell for a lot less. And then there's the people who like the mini very very much and would never sell it anyway, so whether they dedicate it or not is entirely their business.
And I disagree that simply owning a green mini automatically means you show off. Some people worked very hard for their green.

I was glad that I'd dedicated my rare/expensive minis when my account got stolen. THE RMT's didn't touch those, with exception to Kuunavang, which was essentially worthless to them considering what his un-dedicated value would have been. Even if they had all been missing however, I'd still have complete credit for them.
UnicornStampede
But if you could get 50/50 by buying cheap unique mini pets, why would you ded a mini ghostly?

For me, cash is fairly easy to get...so many things to farm...but the rare mini's are tough to come by (unless of course you buy them). So I look at it as "why would I sell something for cash when I can just farm for cash when I need it"...
SO...I dedicated all 62 minis I have (though the storage for them is a pain!)

I dedicate all my minis, no matter how rare they are.
I'm not interested in making money off them, as I keep them for my own enjoyment. I don't care if dedicating it will make it worthless. The points don't matter much since I'm already 30+ in my HoM, so the rest would just be titles.
I just enjoy having them in my HoM. It's nice to look at them and say "I earned that/achieved that". Nothing more, nothing less.

why do people do anything?
because they can.
personally I wouldnt care if I had a dedicated mini or undedicated....when you have it out its still the same mini!

Dedicating minis to HoM only gives you upwards of 8 Reward Points for GW2, but does not directly give you any minis in GW2 -- GW2 will have their own set of minis. Earning 9, 15, 21, and 27 HoM reward points will give you up to 4 GW2 minis.

Some people just go for the completion factor. Fill in White Wasabi in the calculator for example.

I dedicate all my minies regardless of how rare they are, the minies I buy I buy to keep, if I got lucky either in game with a drop or I win one in contest by some miracle I would keep them and never sell.
The only minies I ever sold was either duplicates or some I got from ingame radio contests that was already ded when I got them.
My rule is that any mini I own is ded to my own HoM and is not for sale.
Unless you open trade no one sees the difference on a ded or unded mini, and since I wont be selling I might as well dedicate them.
Also it kinda feels good when you got a nice mini you really like and then you dedicate it.
I wont be getting some of those extremely expensive ones though... simply because Im not going to get that rich or that lucky. But IF I did I would dedicate too.

I like my minis. I want them to be my minis. I dedicate one of every mini I can get my hands on. I never sell my dedicated minis. I wish it was possible to "permanently" dedicate a mini - it's in the HoM and the original disappears, but you can get a non-tradeable copy to travel with you.
If by some miracle I ever got my hands on an undedicated Kanaxai it would be going straight into my HoM.

A lot of people did it before the HoM reward system was announced for GW2.
That's the main reason I didn't dedicate ANY minipets until later cause I didn't want to dedicate stuff I didn't need to and kill it's value. In fact, I still haven't.

Answer - there's is no "point" to any of it. It's a game - do whatever you like.
(I dedicate all of my minis - no point giving the account hackers another freebee. )

The point of minis is that I love my little piggy and whenever I let him out, I remember how happy I was to get him with honest work.
The point of minis is that I can have my little dear Gwen near me whenever I wish, and she makes me remember the happy times with her in Presearing, before her sould was darkened to Goremonger.
The point of minis is that I like the look of my little mandragor raising a huge cloud of dust whenever he comes running to me.
(in other words - while I bought many minis for the HoM, those of them that I do care about have nothing to do with the bloody market, and dedication only matters because my minis are really mine)

The point of dedicating an "expensive" mini is: "MINE. It's MINE. Not yours. MINE."
Hehe...
Also, the point of dedicating an "expensive" mini is: "I want to max my HoM and I don't have any desire to loltrade with people because the way trading is done in this game is annoying and so I just ignore it"

Because it gets put in your HoM mini list... it's a little pointless if you still need to get 30/50 though
I dedicate everything (minis, armor, weapons) because it gets put in HoM permanently and is better than worrying about hackers.

- People add ultra-rare minipets to their Halls of Monuments to show off to their friends when they invite others into their HoM.
- Some people are hoping that the Halls of Monuments in GW2 will link to the Halls of Monuments in GW1 (ie: the items displayed in GW1 HoM will be displayed in GW2 HoM thus allowing people to show off their collection to other people)
