Will there be enough time for the Nightfall-GW2 bridging content?
Iuris
Just thinking here. Given how long it took for WiK to be created and that its release was staggered, and with June almost here and Wind of Change (Canthan segment of GW1-GW2 bridging content)... will there be enough time for it all? Not to make, for us to play in the staggered launch we've seen for WiK.
I mean, I kinda felt the timing would be WoC in 1st half of 2011, Nightfall segment in 2nd half of 2011, leaving 1st half of 2012 for GW2 launch.
I mean, it'd feel kinda wrong to still play GW1's Nighfall segment with GW2 already out...

I don't think the other bridging stories updates will be as drawn out as WiK was. There was a lot of hype for it which didn't quite match the content imo.
I'd say the earliest we'll see GW2 released is Q1 2012, around March maybe, so given that time scale we would still be 10 months away which would be plenty of time for both Factions and NF content.

Most signs point to Ascalon as our next destination, so no I don't think an elona update will happen in time.

I recon there will be plenty of time really. The War in kryta was mainly a testing way and see how we would really react into the way new content was implemented and taking into our opinions on future projects. The War in Kryta was alot more drawn out then it was supposed to as they were trying to hype it through a viral campaign. Hopefully from my understanding the Canthan content will be added with bigger contents as as apposed to Wik's 1 bit of dialogue every 2 days or so (exagerated slightly).
Im thinking we'll deffinatly have WoC by the end of the year aswell as some sort of continuation of the whole Mad King part..which could also bridge elonian content. This makes me think the nightfall content will be the beginning next year which would be nice if GW2 beta would be around then (hopefully).
The Nightfall stuff will probably already be partly done and alot of the mechanics etc would be based on WoC and Wik. Theyve bound to have planned out alot of stuff they want to include already.

You're making two big assumptions here:
1. That there will be GW:B content for Nightfall.
2. That it has to be released before GW2.

The major event in Elona is Pawala Joko defeating the 3 nations of Vabbi, Istan, and Kourna. This does not happen until 56 years after the War in Kryta.
Most people seem to think that the Canthan content will include the Emperor pushing non-human creatures from Cantha, but this doesn't happen until 48 years after the War in Kryta. Likely, the Winds of Change content will include the players protecting Kisu's son (the future emperor who will defeat the luxons and kurzicks and drive non-humans out).
While ANET has stated that the next content to be released is WoC, it's easier for me to believe that we will see the establishment of Ebonhawke either first or shortly after, as this event happens just 1 year after the WiK.

John Stumme's already confirmed there will be GW:B content for NF on his GWW page. Made some comment on the fact that the GW:B content is far more important (in terms of storyline) than any of the other content.

Keep in mind, that when gw2 is nearing completion a lot of the designers/scripters/editers will be done with the game while the testers are looking for the bugs. So later on resources from the gw2 team can be added to the gw live team to help them out on a gw b for nightfall. Specially cause it would be a good thing for marketing to say "goodby" to Guildwars with a stunning bank.
Not knowing for sure off course, but it would make sense imo.

I would like GW1 to end with the Rising of Orr and all of us dying.

John Stumme has already hinted that next month (June) is going to be very exciting which gives me the assumption that WoC will be released in June. If that is the case then I believe there is still enough time for new NF content to be released before GW2 is released next year (which I'm predicting will occur around the end of April 2012)

Did he? Nice. I don't really follow the wiki talk pages at all (too hard to follow conversations), so yeah. I'd definitely like more Elonan content!

If I was NCSoft I'd be very, very careful with the phasing out of GW1. Maybe after GW2 has been out for like a year and it's a groundshaking success, maybe. It would be unwise for them to bet everything on GW2 before they know how it works out. And even after that, as long as GW1 keeps paying for itself I see no reason to kill it just because.
Elnino
I'm pretty sure that Stumme has said that the GW:beyond content will continue even after GW2's release. It has never been stated that everything must come out before the release and I'm pretty sure that the Elona content won't be coming any time soon.

I believe they also stated on almost as soon as they stated there would be a gw2 that gw1 would never be shut down. I am however not going to hunt down the talk pages for that. Or the magazine article that said that. So, take it for what it is. A, "I am pretty sure I heard this" statement.

It was said, unfortunately everyone who said it has left ANET, so who knows.

KBKarma – What’s going to happen to Guild Wars 1 and the characters you have there? Martin Kerstein: As long as people are playing Guild Wars 1, the servers will be there and your characters will be there. No-one plans on shutting down the servers. If the question is can you transfer your characters to Guild Wars 2, the answer is no. It’s set 250 years later… |

I think many people are underestimating the amount of time until GW2's release. I am pretty sure that we still have a long, long time until GW2 is released, and therefore, we still have a long time for GW:B content to be implemented.
Saint Scarlet
Don't hold this as gospel, but i do seem to remember someone from Anet saying in an interview that although the GW:B content will be bridging the gap between the two games that it will not all be released before GW2 comes out. This was a long time ago around when the 1st WiK content was surfacing, so it might not have been an accurate statement more of what the interviewee foresaw as happening.
Star Gazer
you didnt hear? gw2 died in 2008.
NerfHerder
If its going to take another 15 months for the next GW:B segment, no. Although, they may be able to get some content out just prior to GW2 release, when they have more resources available. And then possibly another installment about 6 months after GW2 realease when they get most of the bugs ironed out. But, thats just a wild guess.
Personally, I would like to see the establishment of Ebonhawke before I start GW2.

Personally, I don't see GW2 as being released before Q4 2012, at the earliest, which gives them plenty of time for GW:B content. Admittedly, that's just based on what I've read about GW2 and what they're doing and how long I think it'll take them to get it right, so I could be completely wrong. I hope not though, I have far too much stuff still to do in GW and far too many other games to play before GW2.
Verene
Yes, we get it. You (and everyone else that likes to trot out this line constantly) are a broken record.
I'd say Q1 2012 is more likely; Q4 2011 would be nice but chances are that's not going to happen. But they've already confirmed beta tests for this year (and they've been saying all along that beta testing will come very soon before the game release), and I've seen a few interviews with people implying or straight-up saying that they're running out of time.
Just because everything's not revealed yet, doesn't mean it's not complete.

... Nah but i do believe for commercial reasons that they will kinda wait diablo3 release to do the same for GW2.... Assuming GW2 fails , 2 months after diablo3 is released , most players leave.... Assuming Diablo3 is an epic game, releasing GW2 a few months later won't do good( it's the same on the opposite for diablo3 too)....
On topic , i think they were rather surprised by the success of costumes and it wouldn't surprise me if next content added was smaller , but axed on a few more costumes ( on the same based as Hearts Of The North).... And even , the probability that we get canthan costumes ( similar ones from the 4 characters on Embark bay) is really high....
