What keeps you interested in playing guildwars for the long term?

7 heroes. I'd quit GW for 3 years and because I was bored with CoD and everything else I decided to dabble in some PvE. I've been having fun vanquishing and messing with builds.

I finally bailed on GW and I'm currently playing Rift, which I'm really enjoying, although there are some things in that game that I wish were more GW-like such as targeting... when you don't have that 'c' + control-c believe me, you'll miss it. Although many people have been playing GW a lot longer than I have (I was at 3-1/2 years when I quit), I really needed something new.
I still love GW and I always check back to see if/when the GW2 beta will be announced and if there is any new news. If there's any new playable content introduced (weren't they going to do something in Cantha?), I'll be happily coming back to play that.
Until then, Rift is a nice way to pass the time and it's fun getting in on the release of a new game. GW had been out for some time when I joined up so most people had 'been there, done that'.

I haven't played GW much in the last 6 months, but what keeps me interested until GW2 is getting 30-50/50 and keeping up to date with the diminishing PvP scene

Until there was an opportunity to learn UW, no SC, no gimmicks, no PvE-skill bars, just my guild and partner in crime who's kept things interesting to say the least.
I still press on to play with them and really look forward to finally off'ing the UW for the first time, and won't feel like I cheaped it - actually learning from failures and working with a full party.

GvG remains to be the funnest game i've played.
Also, i'm a skint student atm.

I havn't played Guildwars properly for a long time. Three or four years at least. Coming back because a free online game is actually quite a novelty now.
Since i left Guildwars i've had times playing WoW, MW1 + 2 and single player stuff.
Was just thinking the other day how actually awesome Guildwars was to hold my attention for so long all those years ago. It finds a good middle ground between casual and hardcore without taking over your life.
