Weapon select

I thought someone had already suggested the same idea but i could not find anything by using search so here it goes. Ima sc'er of dungeons and elite areas who uses the weapon select function (F1, F2, F3, F4) every single day. Tbh this idea is not necessary and i can live without it, after all the feature we have now is better than nothing. My idea is if the number increased from max 4 to max 5, 6, 7, or even 8 it would be more convenient. I want to be able to swap bow, scythe, daggers, shield with sword, shield with spear easily and quickly. If i consider the different shield i would need such as blunt, fire, piercing then it will definetly take up more then 4 slots. I can click I or F9 to change weps i know because i do that with armor sets already but its just an idea i would love, if it happened.

Been suggested before, would be nice, and I'd say /signed, but let's first hope Winds of Change is released any time this decade..

this has been suggested very recently, though I'm not really in the mood to dig through the last couple of pages of suggestions looking for the exact thread. I'm still going to /sign it. I rarely need more than 4 weapon sets on my physical chars, but having more for my caster chars (especially on my monk) would be nice.

EDIT: Decided to dig through the forums anyway. This was, in fact suggested fairly recently (last post is from april 25th).

I know some people seem to need instant swap between 100+ weapons just to play the game, always thought it was just a little silly but if that's the way they play then fine.

For myself I keep doing a reality check based on just how many weapons I could reasonably have stuck in my belt or on my back.

For a warrior I get as far as sword on left hip dagger on right bow across back shield on left hand Axe in right hand.
Everything else is in those magic storage bags that let you ignore weight and bulk.

I think if they let you have a panel showing one of your packs open and you could double click to swap out a weapon that would be ok.
I usually have my pack window open a lot of the time anyway.

Well gremlin, weapon swapping just makes your play more effective, that's why people do it.

If anyone would carry the amount of shields my assassin carried you would simply snap in two, you wouldn't be running that fast. But looking at a game from a realistic point of view won't make it any better...

What about the potential implications on PvP balance?

How would this be unbalanced for PvP? It will make weapon swapping easier, so newer players will be a little better at it, and the pro's will be even better at it as well..

Oh I do see it as an standard part of pvp play, no objection there but I do like to occasionally take a friendly pot shot at people who do it.

You do realise that if it comes about there will be those requesting the same thing for access to consumables.

People saying it's impossible for your character to consume a Cupcake, candy apple, Pie, Corn and whatnot in mere seconds and not go fat? Or did I completely misunderstand you?

Well yeah, that's as unrealistic as it gets, but it's still a fantasy game, who cares about realism? Anyhow, going off topic again.. I like your friendly pot shot though^^

I don't see how it makes weapon swapping any easier other than allowing one to have several shield sets on swap. If anything that makes you feel somewhat obliged to always have the correct shield up against whatever damage source your taking, rather than sticking with what you judge to be the most important.

The idea is nice, even if I would not use it personally.

Since it is probably purely client side, it's probably no problems with infinite slots. But I wonder how much is needed. In pve, you will reraly need more than 3 slots at once for most use (bow+main set+alt set), 4 if you carry a defensive set too, maybe. The physical classes might use a couple more for elemental resistance, but do they use it in PvE? Concerning the OP's exemple of switching between different builds, I think it's completely unneeded. What build uses dager+axe+scythe+hammer? And I really wonder where you would put this on your keyboard, I know I have pretty much all my keys used.

About PvP, you probably need 3 sets for casting, thinking about a general defensive + 2xcasting sets (monks used 40/40 and enchanting, last time I heard). Then the defensive : might have no more than 2 kind of physical dmg (blunt/slashing, war/derv-assa-war). Elemental? most ele use only 1, do you have more than 2 elemental attacker in a team? With different dmg obviously.
That goes to 8 sets if you want to stay with a round number.

I thought this was a great idea when I made a thread on it back in 2007. And even back then I got crucified because the idea had already been suggested...

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/m...tml?t=10211467

Obviously the community wants it, it's just a matter of implementing it, and maybe it's harder than we think it is. I know people have wanted more weapon set slots since Leipzig.
