Who Are These Guys?
shadeblade47
By now everyone has seen the new /guild emotes that people have been spamming in every outpost. My question is, who do you think the people in the emotes are? They don't really look like normal humans. Some have horns. Could they have something to do with WoC or GW2? Or do you think this is just some random skin that they chose? Or maybe I'm just stupid and they use an already existing skin that I haven't seen.
Im in SPAMADAN
they are envoys, shepherds of souls

Ah I see. Do you think there's a reason they chose envoys for the new weapons? Perhaps WoC will involve them trying to avenge Shiro or something?
Verene
Why would they want to avenge Shiro when they helped you because Shiro wasn't doing his job as envoy? Did you pay attention to Factions at all?
I'd say because they look cool, but they may have something to do with WoC; we don't know yet.

Well I haven't been through Factions for about 3 years so I'm a bit rusty, but yes I was looking into it. The zaishen kept talking about how something bad is coming then the envoy weapons came. They may have been helping stop Shiro, but what if they decided to follow his lead and break free or something? Envoys were once criminals who were punished with their duty, why wouldn't they want to get out of it? Perhaps they saw how close Shiro came alone so figure they can do it working together. They have a lot to do with Factions and WoC is supposedly close so it would make sense.

Nah, I don't think they are evil anymore. They seem to me more like the kind of guys that were evil once, but now have turned friendly, like in all those shounen mangas in which some of the bad guys join the good guys.
I can only guess some of the reasons for using the Envoys:
- They were underused, appearing only during 3 cinematics.
- Factions and the battle isles are related geographically, chronologically, socially and culturally.
- They are 'ghosts' much like Balthazar's Eternals, although in this case they were put in that state by the Oracle of the mists instead some god.
- They are frakking cool.
If I were them, I'll agree with appearing as an emote. It must be boring in the mists now that Abaddon and Dhuum have been taken care of. And Menzies is a little pussy ass coward that will probably never show his face, so he's not a problem either.
I bet they just wanted to join all the fun.

Idk it seems kind of weird for them to add something just because it was easy but it's possible. Come on guys, why do you have to try and ruin my over-thinking!

I see no reason why the Envoys would have anything to do with PvP or GvG, except for the fact that they are both tied to the Mists in someway (although wouldn't HA be the format closest to the mists?) Maybe the Flux has drawn them there for whatever reason? It makes no sense to me.
To further complicate things, they've decided to just hand out their own personal weapons based on PvP merit. Again, they've never had anything to do with PvP. They are soul shepherds...
Since it looks like Anet made new models for these weapons (I don't think they had their weapons modeled yet in Factions), and since the types of envoy weapons available are so imbalanced (two warrior weapons, another end-game scythe and a staff) I think that maybe when WoC starts we'll be introduced to more envoys and will be able to earn the rest of the envoy arsenal.
