I tried searching for this but searches on attributes pulls up loads of results. Can you change your attributes around willy nilly anytime you want without any negative effects?

You can change them at any time in a town or outpost. Remember that attributes affect the effectiveness of skills.

As long as you are in a town or outpost (or guild hall), you can change them up and down as much as you want. In an explorable area or mission or dungeon, you can increase an attribute (assuming you have unspent attribute points) but not decrease.

Many people are constantly changing their builds - switching secondary professions for specific missions or dungeons, etc. And that usually involves reassigning attribute points as well.

The same is also true for hero builds & attribute point allocation - same rules apply to when/where they can be changed.

This is useful if you or a hero levels up in the middle of nowhere. You get some attribute points from leveling that you can use immediately.

Also, if you set up a build and save it as a Template, the attribute point distribution is saved as well. So, you don't need to fiddle with attributes every time you switch from an MM (Death Magic) to Curses. for example - just save the builds and the points will change too.
