Official Support Forum
bsoltan
I couldn't see a thread about this:
http://forum.guildwars.com/
An official Guild Wars forum for technical support with the game.
Players are still advised to contact NCSoft support as a first port of call but this allows Devs and Players to discuss support queries and solutions etc.
Maybe a test for GW2 or making the jump from the wiki to forums to deal with support information? Or just somewhere to QQ if your account gets hacked. :P
edit: Is it working? It was at the weekend and I can't check properly at the moment. Apologies if this is a massive fail.

Apparently we can register but it requires your account E-mail, account password and character name.
I'm not brave enough.
Edit: We've already got posts in the bug forum which have been replied to with "we know but we can't fix it." I predict this will be a common occurence.

The fact that you have to give them your exact log-in information makes me not want to use it, even if it is official.
Also, I see this becoming a "MY ACCOUNT WAS WRONGLY BANNED!" cesspool within a few weeks. The idea is good, but the reality of what will happen is inevitable.

I'm calling scam on this until told otherwise officially. Companies never ask for your official log in information. It also seems doubtful that this would be made available to the public before any announcement is made.
Kook~NBK~
I don't trust it at all. I can't see why A-Net would want or need your account info - especially your Password. Plus, I didn't see a link to it on the Support section of the official Guild Wars web site.
Shayne Hawke
It's neat that ANet is offering more ways for players to communicate with them, starting out small now with just a support section for a forum and potentially moving to a broader sort of forum in the future.
For it to require my account info though is a little bit concerning. I'll likely hold off on doing anything with that site until I have a really pressing issue with my account.

Swingline
Heeeeeeeeeeeell no. No way I am giving my account info to anyone. The past 10 years MMO companies have said we will never ask for your account info and those words have never steered me wrong.

tcratty
lol anet has always said not to give you account info to anyone and now they ask for it dont tell anyone your account info take it to your grave with you unless you want to be hacked
Rawling
If you're unwilling to give ANet your account information, how do you play Guild Wars?
Although admittedly I wouldn't have expected them to ask for a character name for the forum login. That's a bit of "extra" information to keep back for the game login.

Xenomortis
The total lack of warnings from ANet make me doubt it's not legit.
And isn't requiring account information fairly standard for official forums of this kind?

so anet is putting it's big boy pants on....
once this is proven it's not another aion forums-ish account info harvesting paradise i may join.

The forum only asks for your email password and char name on login. After that you will register for forums with a username and an email. You will still use your game account information to login. This way the forums does not contain any information about your game account email, game password or character name. And it only has a reference to your game account.
Why is that good? Well IF the forum gets hacked, the hackers gets nothing just a list of emails and forum usernames. You are not forced to use your game email on the forums. Your are not forced to use your character name as your username and they can make sure you have a guild wars account.
IF the whole database with all game accounts is "hackable" through this forum I don't think not making a forum account would make you less vulnerable.

So if you loose your game account (got hacked for example) you can't login to the support forum ? It's not very smart...

How to Get Help with Your Account
For the fastest possible service regarding issues that involve your game or NCsoft Master Account, consider providing as much information as possible from this list:
•Your name
•Your game account name(s)
•Your address
•Your telephone number
•Your birth date
•Your access keys (a scan of the key would be super helpful)
•The last four digits of the credit card(s) that you used for NCsoft Store or Guild Wars In-Game Store purchases
I call for a lock of this thread and move it unless we get an official word otherwise we will be addressing my account got hacked and I can not get it back ever since they have your access keys. No need for a password when you can barrage support and give them all the info they need to reset your account
Why would you need a scanned access key
https://forum.guildwars.com/
Why is the forum portion first and not guildwars???? where is the link to it from the official guildwars site?
Below are examples of good ones

http://www.mycrysis.com/forums/
See the difference the website address first then the move to the forum
You can have my act key here it is 456ewefwefFUASSHOLE1561

Well being a support-only form, there's no need to enter there if you don't have some kind of technical problem.
I think it would be a good idea if fansites redirected their soon to be outdated support sections there.

Its about time some official forum for Guild Wars was made. Found Blizzards WoW forum very handy in regards to support.

This kind of stuff usually requires some extra info from your side(a CD key or last 4 digits from a credit card you used on your account) to prove you're the owner. Revealing this kind of stuff on a forum everyone could read is not very smart either.

But if you asked me yesterday if Anet would ever ask account information to log on his forum, i had say no, so i might be wrong here too....

It's a bit weird they're asking for details when there's already a ticket system for that...
FoxBat
The forum exists because their support is handled by NCSoft and Anet knows they are idiots. This is a way for them to provide a little more help given that NCSoft does not want Anet paying their own support positions.
Leohan
6 years until now... testing the waters for a GW2 forum I see...lol. I do hope this works out, there are already some people pointing out bugs and flaws about the forum. So beta testing is going well I guess. Good Luck to all those who sign up.

no response from any voice of anet about this and no announcement anywhere?
sigh.
sigh.

I can see all hell breaking out as countless fake "support" sites pop up to farm login details.

Also, as said before, using your game credentials for the forum has the advantage that you do not have to store any credentials separately in the forum. Most forum databases are not very secure. In my opinion, the current solution is the safer one (and that's why Blizzard and Turbine also need your game credentials for their forums).

If you go to https://forum.guildwars.com, you can check the security certificate of the website, and see that the certificate was released on May 3, 2011, to NCSoft in Austin, Texas.

I hardly remember it but wasn't there a problem with NCSoft master accounts before? And what if you have to store data in a forum database. Aslong as there not the same as your account then the dmg is almost nihil. Let alone the lack of interest in data that is not linked to the users account.

We completed a soft launch of the Support Forums ahead of posting broader messaging for technical and staffing reasons. We spoke with our players in the official wiki community, communicated with admins of our larger fansites (including this one) that administer tech and support sub-forums, and the Facebook community.
The official wiki had a game account support page on which customer support staff posted and helped players with account issues. The Guild Wars Support Forum serves this purpose in a much more user-friendly way. As this was the venue which would most directly be affected in terms of support answering questions, we communicated the soft launch of the Support Forums with the official wiki community.
We also contacted admins of fansites that have tech support sub-forums about the soft launch of the Guild Wars Support Forums, as those fansite sub-forums get a ton of questions which need to be directed to Customer Support (i.e. "I forgot my password"). At fansite admins' discretion, they updated their sticky pages and let their mods know about this new resource.
The Guild Wars fan page on Facebook was directed to the Support Forums because Facebook fans tend to be less knowledgeable about how to contact Customer Support, and thus, we felt it would be helpful for them to know about the soft launch of the Guild Wars Support Forums as well.
We also decided to soft launch the Support Forums so that teams working on it on our end could continue addressing less critical forum bugs ahead of the broader messaging, and so that the teams could ramp up to forum activity.
As others have pointed out, other industry-leading games companies also ask their players to login to their forums with their game account details. This is not unusual. We have a lot of knowledgeable people who are experienced in security issues working on these forums, and we take data security very seriously.
Hope that clarifies things for you all.
