Kudos to Anet for dealing with us and working hard on the next installments (WoC and GW2). Thank you.

ANET made GW1. And GW1 doesn't need level grinding to be addictive!
I only just wish it would continue to be updated until even after GW2. It would be nice if a bridge campaign were to be released..

The fact that i've played GW for 5,000+ hours still boggles my mind. Well played Arenanet, well played.

GW has by far been the no 1 free to play rpg out there since the get go. It offered something very few games can claim, to appeal to both the hardcore and casual of gamers, to let them both play together side by side as equals. To not sit there in a mine for hours on end hammering at a wall to build up supplies in the hope that after a few years of grinding exp you'll be able to finally try yourself out at some high end monsters or pvp, mixing potions and pointlessly making thousands weapons and armour items just so you can level up and make somet of use and value. Don't get me wrong, trades can be a kinda of cool feature of a game but i played these kinda of games before i found GW in Oct 2005 and if you think the grind in gw is bad you seriously don't understand what grind really is. I hope trades work differently for us in GW2.
In my 5 1/2 years and over 13k hours i can honestly say theres only 2 things i can really seriously complain about; deadlines, or their lack of ability to meet the ones they set themselves, they even look to be missing the worse case scenario release date they gave the BoD a few years back for GW2, fortunately interest in GW2 looks to be good enough for them to dodge any penalties. In business you set deadlines, you meet them, or else expect to answer why, simples, not meeting deadlines is never good. The only other thing was last years big skill nerf, not in relation to balance but fun, long standing big builds were hit and i think it was too much too late for a lot of people, i've not experienced any other nerf that had a negative impact to activity like it, we got over it (thanks to HoM) but it did hurt the community imo. As a non-pvper Factions was a bit of a let down on release (how relieved were you the first time you got out of the city lol) but tbh its grown on me over the years and its ok now. Otherwise i'm more than happy with the updates and balances and looking forward to the already late Wind of Change. I've really enjoyed the vast variety of the cross profession abilities of GW and the amount of creativity that has come out of players, the minimalistic approach to weapons and armour (although the introduction of inscriptions took away alot of the shine and value away from greens and old skool rares)
NCSOFT and ANET do indeed deserve some kudos for the gamble they took at the start with this ambitious format and it paid off for them. They gave us a great product at the right price and for many of us, ie me at 13k+ hours, there isn't a number to describe the level of value we've had, just think how many PS2/3 games i could've completed in those hours and how much it would have cost me, and yet i'd still be doing the same old point and shoot or random mashing of buttons
Keep up the good work, but don't forget where you came from or how you got there for GW2. You did some things right and some things wrong in GW, i myself am confident you've recognised which is which and look forward to GW2 and many years to come. But please, for all our sanity, sort that GW2 deadline out already, some beta would be great, or even a blast on the demo version, we'll love you that little bit more for it^^
Sorry if i was both critical and praising but i don't really troll these forums to care enough about adding my piece to any of these critique threads. Back to Minecraft

Oh, and I know a couple who met in GW, and they're now a happily married couple! Coming from two different countries, they now live together for a few years
My point... if it wasn't for GW, maybe they would never have met in the first place.

_Alice_
On another note, there have been some really touching posts! Thanks so much guys!

Anet's live team is awfully understaffed, and until the people in charge provide adequate staffing so that we can get monthly skill updates again, im going to stick with my opinion that support for gw1 is far worse than it used to be... which is nothing to be saying thanks for.
greep
Yeah, anyone who's worked on a massive project would know how much support threads mean to the people who worked on it. Although, maybe this is kinda pointless if it ends up that only some PR employee reads it.

Thank you anet for having guild wars up every day- I don't think I could go a morning without logging on even if its just to hang out in my guild hall. Thank you for still continuing to come out with content even if it means gw2 release keeps getting postponed. I didn't think I was going to ever like playing an mmorpg since I didn't even know what that stood for when I started playing, but guild wars has become such an integral part of my life.
Ximvotn
Thank you for Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall. Not going to mention that expansion to refrain from saying anything non-positive. I'm excited for WoC, still skeptical about Guild Wars 2, but it will be interesting none the less. Anet, I'm spent more on your game than any other game, but it has kept me interested for six years so job well done.
Snorph
Yes I agree, best game ever, best MMO, with all the added content and added stuff that Anet added makes this game even more enjoyable. Thanks Anet for a great ride. Keep up the good work.

Thus is why no other free MMO other there has been sucsessful, most free MMO's have a cash shop, or you have to buy stuff to stat your gear, or buy mounts.

Technically this is a CORPG, but in my opinion that's what avoids server fees and the useless everything is instance type game. Also, I think it is the best game published by NC Soft. There other games are kind of eh...

The only time I got "pissed" at ANet/NCSoft was when I got hacked after linking my account to a master NCSoft account for the free storage pane (high correlation there, not just for me) and they were like "k." But I've pretty much moved on from that, so.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I love Anet. They just get it. And they have great customer service and offer great discussions with players. However, that's not going to stop me from complaining about things that dampen my love for the game *cough* consumable titles *cough*

You my friend "get" this thread. It's not really about fawning all over them and calling the game perfect, it's about appreciating their work! (Even if it drives us mad sometimes)

I play GW more every month by paying zero dollars/mo than I play WoW by paying $15/mo. Whether I have 30 minutes or 8 hours to play a game, GW almost always has something fun to do. Thank you ArenaNet.

As the OP pointed out, every person who posts and criticises the game cares about the game. If you learn to see those posts for what they are - people who like and care enough to play and post about the game six years into it's life, then the forum is full of people saying they like the game.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with this game for the past 5 years I've played it. I absolutely loves my first time playing in Pre and through prophecies and still do.
While I like Proph the most, there is still some great work done in the other campaigns.

I have never played WoW and never will, but surely if WoW IS the no1 mmo then surely compairing it to GW is an Honour

THANK YOU anet for:
1)successfully creating one of the best pvp games ever
AND
2)successfully killing it off with continuous intentional bad skill balances
AND at the same time
3)turning it into a mere GW2 guinea pig and a not so successful cash cow (the thanks for that goes to ncsoft, I suppose).
Because otherwise, I'd probably still be playing too much GW as I have when the game used to be good.
So really, THANK YOU for screwing it up along the way.
And I'm honestly half serious about this.

Some of us play PvE..how about giving that some love?

I 100% agree. ArenaNet has provided me with the ability take myself away from real life, which at many points in my life has been desperately needed. I know we don't get updates as much as i'd like, but when we do and it involves new content, it is always quality. Thank for providing me with nearly 4 years of enjoyment. I have formed several friendships that have continued outside the game, you have provided me with the ability to vent to others who are at most times caring individuals who are willing to listen to my problems, and stop listening when i want them to, and for me to be able to do the same.
You have created an awesome community and an awesome game. I'm sorry for all the haters and complaints (which sometimes I am guilty of). What you have made is amazing in so many ways, if any devs read this, never forget what you have done for many people, without the game it could be said that some lives would be dramatically different.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thanks to Anet for providing me a means to escape from reality and enjoy a quality game for the last six years. The game isn't perfect and I have disagreed with a lot of the changes, but for a company to keep supporting a game after they are no longer making money from it (other than from the NCSoft store) says a lot about them. I'm looking forward to GW2, but even after it comes out I expect I will still visit my toons in the GW1 universe.

I met my ex 3 and a half years ago. I was a secretary back then and He was an IT man. You know, like Maurice in IT Crowd
Ha was (and still is) an addict of GW and bought me an account to play. The most complex game i played before was passians
But something happened. I played a monk and a mesmer for six months just in pre searing!
I love the theme of that era!
I tried many other MMOs like Aion, Rift, WoW, Eve, Lotro, even STO too
but every time i find myself back in Tyria. I love the people's attitude in game, i love that people do stuff because of fun, not because they HAVE TO do something for the monthly fee.
I love this game! I'm looking forward to Dragon festival, WoC and all the events to the very end of GW1. Thank you Anet for organizing these for us!

Thanks Anet for a tops game & no monthly fees! Well done.

Anet still makes a quality game even if it's old.
For the little manpower you got for GW1 it still one of the better online games out.
The staff deserve some credit for what they have done so far.
So many hours I've spent on this game I never regret that I bought it!
I hope GW2 will make me feel the same enjoyment.

Over the last 6 years I have enjoyed GW
Having purchased accs slots ect this game has cost me nothing as far as I am concerned for the time spent playing.
Yes some updates may have caused a ripple here and there but thats where
you adjust accordingly and still achive your goal.
Also over the same period I have never had any problems with Support also so my thank you goes to all staff .
This game has been fun thats the important factor and if you look at all the content /updates that you have given for free also this Game deserves the praise it duly warrents

My account time, which has to be at or near 3k hours (and counting), is more than enough thanks.
I want the game I love to be better than it is, but some people take it too far and too seriously on the forums (Guru2 is no exception, and the game is still pre-Beta!).

Here's what I like about GW and why it's the only MMO I play:
* Free to play. I would not be playing it if it had a monthly fee, no matter how cool it was.
* It really caters to the casual player. The requirement to play as a team came with it own solution (AI companions) and the instanced world zones offers a kind of privacy casual players really appreciate.
* Clear separation of PvE and PvP. They are very different types of play. I dislike games that force you to put them together sooner or later.
* The strategy. I like a game that makes you think at least a little. Working with a team (even if it's AI), working with a limited skill bar, it's great.
* Outstanding artwork, music, design. I like Prophecies the most but all the campaigns have spectacular places and moments.
* The trading system. I love the haggling, the advertising, the bazaar market. I do miss a non-real time component, such as a bulletin board, but I can't say I've missed the auction houses that every other game is so keen to have.
* The economy. I find alternative currencies to be excelently implemented. I read about other MMOs trying to design fixed systems around them and it's pitiful compared to GW. The simplicity and flexibility of the NPC trader system is amazing.
* The ability to change everything about your character, short of primary profession.
* No restrictions for enjoying the game to the fullest. You can go everywhere, do anything, have the best of items and skills. You don't have to grind for it, you don't have to pay extra for it. All it takes is skill and reasonable amounts of time -- and the game makes up for that time.
