I Yam What I Yam

It started yesterday and even after a clean install of all drivers and windows 7, when I log into guild wars and choose my character it stops on the loading screen of the town (100% loading) and it causes my WHOLE LAPTOP to freeze up and become un-useable. I have a ASUS G73JH-A2, i'm well knowledgeable with hardware and software so I know I meet the requirements. Please someone tell me why this happens? I can barely get into Task Manager.

I have no idea but i get this too. I've had Gw freeze on me quite a few times and i can't do anything but turn the lappy off and restart it (it wouldn't power down after either) Never had it on my main pc, although once or twice hubby's PC has froze or has problems i don't such as code 7 every time he goes to a certain town or completes a mission

Only things that come to mind atm are:

- you didn't say what sort of video system your laptop has. If it's Intel Integrated Graphics, there's a possibility that your character is in a place that IIG has problems with. If so, search on these forums for info on settings for IIG. (It's not likely that the ASUS G73 has IIG though)

- firewall. Check to make sure that a firewall is not blocking GW. Try turning off Windows Firewall. A firewall problem shouldn't lock up the computer though.

- driver conflicts. Get the latest drivers for your machine and make sure that Windows 7 is up to date. This includes the video, audio, and chipset drivers.

- if you are overclocking, set the clocks back to default values.

- although overheating isn't likely to happen during connection, make sure that the cooling ducts are clear of dust and the fan(s) is working.

ATI 5870, assuming that's standard on that particular model.
