Read-Only problem

I've been trying to set up my parent's computer for a while so my brother can play Morrowind, Game of the Year Edition. After a few tries, I managed to actually see the error message, which, after translation, says that the Saves folder is read-only. I changed it. Tried again. Still read-only. Switched to administrator account. Still read-only, even after switching it twice. Found out the "read-only-ness" goes all the way down to Program Files. Then I tried to make Program Files and all subfolders and files write-able. This led to me getting the "Access is denied" message when it reached "setup.ilg" in the /Uninstall part of Morrowind, and again with the other copy of "setup.ilg." However, if I skip those, I do not get that message for any of the other folders under Program Files. They all "just" go right back to read-only as soon as I'm done. And to top it all off, they all show up as not read-only, including the "Saves" directory, when I check with Attrib. So, what the @(*#(@ *#(@ is going on?

Did you check the file&folder permissions? If you installed the game(s) on other user account/admin user account, they might have only full control-flag set for the creator.
Read-Only bit on a folder doesn't seem to affect writing files to the folder (just tested)
So check the permissions for the game directories (right click on the folder name, properties, security-tab), Users-group probably has only read-bits set, so tick 'Full Control', should hopefully work.

I tested it on the admin account as well. Same problem. And that isn't set to read-only, either.

Have you tried to completely remove the game and delete any traces of it and install it from the admin account.
Long shot here: have you tried this patch - Morrowind uses safedisc. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Morrowind is a great great game.
Create a character anyway you want and drops you in a realistic world. And from there do whatever you want. It's one of those rare gems that you are in a different world with complete freedom. To "beat" the game all you do is follow the chain of quests of the main plotm but there are massive amount of side quests for guilds / houses that have nothing to do with the the game. Not only that they released the editor so there is so much quality free cotent that adds on to the game.
