Putrid or Bomber?
marmar256
In peoples opinions, what best utilizes corpses?
A minion bomber such as jagged bones + death nova + summon bone minions.
An AoTL MM.
Or a hero with skills such as discord and putrid explosion to utilise the corpses?
Just wanting peoples 2 cents, because I see that putrid can do more damage than a bomber can during a fight, rather than at the next fight. The wall may be a nice addition but instead of an MM having to cast summons mid fight, they could use heals or prots after making a corpse go boom.
No trolling please just opinions.

Well, a MM/MB, until there are enough corpses to fuel it and your team can handle his presence w/o problems is generally a nice addition. Almost a standard for most PvE areas probably, expecially if you're a caster looking for some aggro distraction away from squishy targets.
When using those, you must just take in account:
-slowing down team (summon+minion lagging back+ expecially using DNova+etc)
-minions going mad if MM/MB dies
-minions may not contributing in every battle (for point 1.)
Putrid expl.(or a non-MM death/blood/curse nec) will contribute more to battles, won't slow you down and maybe will carry nice support, but you'll lose the dead meat wall, which is the main reason to bring MM's.
Is up to you. Imo the general rule sholud be:
-Meele player: no need to have meat shield, learn microing a bit and do it by yourself(thus leading to tank-spank teams, you may see some in hero section). MM should be replaced by support for meele dmg and tank protection in those teams.
-Caster player: unless you're microing hero to prot another one and use this to ball(very unreliable way to do it), MM will help, for dmg, protection and bodyblock. MM can carry a couple of prots/resto/shout/etc too.
^This doesn't mean that you must follow the above 2 category. In certain areas, or if you're not so good at it/too lazy to do, balling may be difficult/dangerous: a leerooy/standard approach could work better, and a MM to distract from yor backline needed. Same way, caster may drop the MM for additional dmg/support/prot, expecially if using ST+shelther or such kind of powerful protection.
About MM vs. MB or possible replacements:http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/a...t10484486.html i think you can take a look here. Or in this forum section anyway.
P.S: Aotl > JB. Personal opinion.

Id say the cup goes to the MM, hands down. The reason for this is: The Minions are guaranteed to hit at least something at some point during the current fight or the next fight. The Putrid Explosion Necros use the skill whenever theres a corpse in the area.... no matter if that corpse is anywhere near a foe or even if there are any foes left alive.
Most of the time Putrid explosion does absolutely nothing because the corpse of the lone melee foe just blew up while the still alive casters are sitting back out of range (or vice versa of course) looking at the pretty effects.
The other point which was already mentioned is: You loose that handy Minionwall to take agro off of your whole party which makes your casters prime targets for anything comming their way.

putrid explosion is good - it can do a lot of damage. A minion wall is simply too good to miss out on though, and as such, putrid explosion isn't worth using over animate minion skills.

When using a ST rit, putrid.
When not, bomber.

Personally, my MM heroes don't use PE or DN. Instead they carry things like Putrid Bile and Vile Miasma so that they can deal some degen/damage in between maintaining the minions. This also helps to ensure that the MM will be targeting foes, thus making the minions attack sooner, and it eliminates the problems with Heroes using PE, etc., at the wrong times.

I typically run this exact bar on Olias...

In corpse-light areas, I used Jagged Bones instead. Sometimes I switch to /Rt for channeling with Ancestor's, Splinter, and FoMF.

explosive growth rit/nec are fun also

Minions with Death Nova are better than Putrid Explosion (which isn't all that great anyway); there's no real competition there.
Ultimately, if you're not using it for minions, Death Magic is a waste of time.

Fair enough. I was just curious as to see if there was anything better you could do with corpses rather than make an army. Guess not

Just adding my 2 cents as well:
Putrid Explosion is an alright skill, but if compared to minions+nova, Putrid may not have correct placement to even hit 1 enemy, but minions+nova will almost always be in range to explode near enemies due to melee attack range, unless you use fiends, but no one bombs with fiends.

Putrid Explosion is identical to Death Nova, apart from not being mobile, of course.
PE: Similar to throwing a mine at the enemy.
DN: Similar to a suicide bomber running to claim their 9001 virgins.

There's a lot of misleading information in this thread from people who don't seem to have actually ever used Putrid Explosion on a hero before.
Heroes do not and will not cast Putrid explosion unless the resulting explosion would hit an enemy. This is -very- easy to test. Enemies also share the same AI - They will not meaninglessly exploit corpses for an AoE that does nothing.
