Make Consumable titles mean something.
thedeadlyassassin
Before I start, let me just say that yes, this is a thread asking to make something, generally, easier. Yes, it is a thread asking for a title that MANY have achieved a bit easier as well. Yes, I do understand most posters here will /unsign, but that's mainly because most posters here are/think they are elite, and most have accomplished everything imaginable in the game. That being said, please continue to read.
My suggestion here concerns the consumable titles of Drunkard, Sweet Tooth, and Party Animal.
Before I get started with the suggestion, I would like to add that I am currently going for GWAMM. I have 27 of the required 30 titles for the title. I have legendary master of the North, Legendary Guardian, Legendary Survivor, Legendary Vanquisher, Legendary Skill Hunter, Legendary Cartographer, Norn, Asuran, Lightbringer, Sunspear, Vanguard, and Delver titles. Did I miss any? The only remaining titles that involve PvE besides Luxon and Kurzick that I can possibly get, that are realistic, are these remaining consumable titles. I am saying this simply to share that I do know what GWAMM is about, and the dedication it takes to achieve it. I respect that, and even if my idea is not implemented into the game, I will still achieve it before the release of Guild Wars 2. I am determined to do that. I will even proceed to chase these titles even before my idea is added to the game, if it ever is to be. I WILL do that.
But, for my suggestion, please make these consumable titles actually mean something rather than making money and buying them. That currently is the only realistic way of achieving these titles without having to do the same repetitive quests OVER AND OVER again, or without waiting until an annual festival comes around.
To achieve these titles, you basically have to have tons of cash (each one, with the current prices, takes around 1000k-2000k platinum to purchase, or takes a LOT of dedication and farming to achieve the titles during festivals.
Currently, I am taking a break from Guild Wars until Wintersday in July comes to Guild Wars. Since, that is when I can farm lots of consumables to progress in these titles, and that it'll be much easier to purchase them. BUT, what if I don't achieve these titles in this upcoming holiday. When is the next one? Halloween?
So how do we fix this? Glad you asked.
Add a new area for players who have completed every single campaign, and only those players/characters can get to these areas
Basically, you go to an NPC in Lions Arch, Kamadan, or Kaineng City. The NPC says something along the lines of, "Wow, you're a hero! You have saved Humanity and the world of Tyria! We have designed a special area for you and all heroes of Tyria! Would you like to go there now?"
In this area, there are minigames. Basically, it is like an annual festival. There are UNIQUE minigames (so that each annual festival remains unique). There are unique mobs associated with this zone (it starts out as an outpost, but there are some explorable areas (not associated with cartographer, so it could possible be added to the isles) that drop unique consumables. THESE CONSUMABLES ARE UNTRADABLE, AND DO NOT OFFER EXPLORABLE ZONE BUFFS LIKE OTHER CONSUMABLES TO ADD BALANCE TO THE GAME All these consumables do is what the typical consumables do for outpost fun. They also will add points to consumables. There will also be minigames, that require teamwork. These can help players with Unlucky/Lucky/Skillz/Gamer titles, seeing as in my previous thread asking which titles people hate, people mainly said those because they required festivals and took ages to do, discouraging players to do them (the other popular hated title was cartographer, but that's generally easier and SHOULDN'T be changed).
So there is my idea. Make an outpost for those that have completed all the campaigns, including EOTN. It's like a festival end-game area.
Now, I will try to answer some "questions", that I think will pop up, to share some time.
1) But that would make these titles easier!
True, and untrue. Patience is a difficult task to overcome, but I assure you that making money and purchasing from other players to achieve the consumable titles would indeed be faster. I'm not asking for a beer to drop every mob, but has at least a decent chance to drop.
2) You just want the game easier! Noob!
Seeing as I've completed every other title in the game that's PvE, I will say that all are fairly easy, they just require grinding. Every title has become easier since release. Here is a list of titles been easier.
Protector/Guardian - heroes, 7 hero update, PvE only skills, New campaigns
Vanquisher - heroes, 7 hero update, pve only skills, new campaigns
Skill hunter - Like this is hard
Lightbringer - DoA, a great source of income. Easy to achieve the title quickly
Reputation titles - 7 hero update, PvE only skills (as if these were hard anyways)
Master EOTN - 7 hero update
Survivor - Experience earned without dying, doesn't become impossible after you die anymore
LDOA - Recent update makes it incredibly easy
Cartographer - nothings changed, but easy to get while vanquishing, texmod
As you can see, these titles all have become easier.
3)What about those that have already earned it
Congrats! I earned a lot of my titles before most of the updates making the game "easier" were implemented. Games generally get easier to achieve older content. I understand that. You don't see me complaining
4) Wouldn't that destroy the purpose of the current annual festivals?
Not at all. These festivals would likely have a higher drop rate than the on-going one I am suggesting. Also, the festivals would have unique minigames NOT in the festival I am suggesting
5) What about those wanting to sell consumables during festivals?
First, I'd like to add that in my opinion it defeats the purpose of having a festival if players use it only to make money. Secondly, the consumables earned in the festival I am suggesting are UNTRADABLE. You pick it up, you consume it, no one else can.
I will add more if people come up with good debates about it.
So, there is my suggestion. Again, I don't expect much support, nor do I expect this to really happen, but it's my idea and I would love it to be added, and I'm sure it'd add more fun to those. Because right now, I told my guild that I won't be on until a festival comes around simply because I do not feel consumable titles should involve doing something completely different (like farming), buying them, and then sitting in a town mashing buttons. Each title has it's own way of playing its content strictly for that title besides the consumables. Let's make a way for it to be earned by doing what players should be doing. Also, it's new "end-game" content

Okay, so you hate an idea already added to the game. So I guess that means you /unsign since you dislike something already in the game and adding more if it, while still making it remain completely optional. Or, would you like to expand on your comment to make it constructive?

Nope, they are easy enough. I am a very casual player and I still got my gwamm with some but not all consumables during festival events.
The only one that does not give you a playing advantage if party animal but the title itself is an indication enough that it's not play related.

This seems like an idea to add a new outpost and explorable for players who complete X kind or Y number of Z achievements, which is an idea that has been suggested previously at many different degrees, disguised within an idea for title point consumables to be more readily available as drops and perhaps not be so dependent on being purchased.
I don't see how this makes the consumable titles "mean" anything more than they already do, which is +1 maxed titles and +0 prestige.

This thread sounds like a QQ that titles are easy rather then a 'i have a new area thread'
The idea of mini games giving things for those titles is almost making them PvP only in my eyes and ew really. I hardly touch the gamer title, for me would be a waste. I think things are ok as they are. Besides for whatever reason some people dont have all the guildwars games so it would just be a fail.
How about an area for people that has maxed every title in the game? just to add to the aura's/ other titles/ i'm wonderful objects people already want.
I'd rather the time and resourses were used on other things.

This has nothing to do with adding other titles. And to think it's a QQ thread shows your lack of intelligence or willingness to read the thread. All you simply have to do is kill Abaddon, Shiro, the Great Destroyer, and the Lich King. You don't need protector. Seems like a fair area for those that have all the campaigns. There are lots of things in the game, such as GWAMM itself, that requires all campaigns. I guess that's unfair for people that only bought one or two of the campaigns.
I explained myself and still people say that it's the things I specifically said its not. Big surprise.

1. There's nothing wrong with the current system
2. sounds more like a QQ thread than an actual request to change the system
(note: I have less than half the titles you do, so this is not me being elitist)

Drunkard,Sweet and Party are the money titles, they are the only ones to require money besides skill hunter. Its just another part of the game you have to explore and that is blowing ridiculous amounts of gold or farming them by participating in festivals or nic every week. BTW most people worked hard for them so this is just a complete QQ thread.

It does seem a complicated way to make 3 titles a little easier, not to mention a lot of work from anet.
I am working towards a few titles just to pass the time waiting for GW2 I don't really expect to go all the way to gwamm in fact I know I will never gain that.
Cartographer that's my title of hate now ldoa is fixed mainly because I consider it the most boring of them all, so shame on you for not helping me find that last rock to look under.
Lucky/Unlucky these make me laugh as I think they should be like luxon/Kurzic gain in one lose in the other.
He won 300 million in the lottery and died of shock wow the luckiest I mean unluckiest person.
Party animal I like and Drunk is ok too already have 1 in both and well on my way to maxing them.
Nicholas and Nicholas the Traveller quests are helping me here and of course festivals as mentioned.
Though to be honest its easier to farm for money and convert money to alcohol and sparklers.
So good luck with your ideas I am not against any new content in the game.

About OP: QQ thread/rant rather then a good system.
A good function I'd add to a drunkard: if u got it maxed, then give to pve skills that relies on alchool use an inherent use when u use your title in explorable areas.
Example:
Do I have maxed my drunk title? Good!
I select and tick it on my hero panel and when I use skills...like "drunken master" in explorable I've got the bonus as same as I've assumed alchool, since I've already maxed that title and there's no point to drink more alchool.
Last at not least, it's pve thing so no qq on unbalance etc, it's alredy broken. let's enjoy it as much as we can!

How would adding a new area actually make the consumable titles mean something? It will just come down to how much you can farm in those areas to get the title maxed out and I believe the snowmen dungeon serves the same purpose. It would be better to see the titles give some effect in towns. For example, permanent speed boost for the sweet title or an infinite drunk effect for the drunk one.

Game is getting too damn easy as it is.
Gee, why not make a command /gwamm and get the thing without doing a damn thing?
Enough already.

uhm, I have drunkard, 2 party (and another 1/2 way), one sweet (with another 1/3 way) and I bought NONE of the items need NOT A SINGLE ONE...it can be done, you just need to know when to keep stuff, what stuff to keep and when its going to be used (halloween, wintersday and new years...--just check what the collectors want, save up that stuff and exchange during the festivals). and then we have nic--he usually graces you with sweets and party points up the....., yeah so making those easier??
THEY ALREADY DID...you have nic in pre and nic in post, you have consumables (you even get some from completing quests)..you have wik (you get stuff from the royal gifts)....how much easier do you want them to make it??? Oh make a new character and POOF! you have gwamm!
sorry, its easy and free now--and much easier with many ways of getting the stuff needed already, no need to do more.

go do the secret snowman dungeon/nick gifts /killroy dungeon if you want to farm title points out of events :P
tcratty
first off you dont need to spend any money to get drunkard or party title really only for sweet title
drunkard-weekly nick gifts will give plenty of kegs that will give you title without money
party- can farm this title in one weekend doing snowball dominance just a matter of useing all the tonics
so notsigned sorry you even said yourself your going to get gwamm even if they dont use your idea of new outpost(the anet team has enough to do with what we all want guildwars 2 to come out not waste time on some outpost)so just start farming some money like everyone else has or are doing get your gwamm title and you will be welcomed into the gwamm family

I fixed this for you. Unless you want to argue in vain the Live Team didn't just turn it into another easy +1 title? Before you reply, sit in town for an hour or two and watch how many global echoes you see.
OP: What could possibly be an easier title than spam clicking inventory items? Clearly Anet attempted the fix the cost 'issue' once already by hyper saturating the market with ToT bags. Then further by introducing compression items like Kegs, Beacon, Cake. In my opinion between those two things that's enough help so /notsigned.

For the record I am all for making the game easier if it also makes it more fun, I am also in favour of making the game harder if it achieves the same ends.

Consumables titles never meant anything other than extra titles for getting GWAMM or money sink. That's all.
P.S: i actually got 2 of those(party+sweet) thanks to almost only last Winterday, which gave waayyy more stuff than other years. I think i've spent only 100k for last points needed to max. Not THAT much. I know that next WInstersday will be in 6 months, but that's how special events works.

I love this idea. Mini games are always fun (:
Uriel_Wolfblood
I like mini games, and I like the idea of unique consumables that don't impact actual gameplay. However, I think these titles are gold sinks and will always be gold sinks. Just like the griniding involved with your other titles those require it as well (for money or goods). I know it sucks but hey that's why they are usually the last ones you do. Anet has already done enough to make these titles reasonable in my opinion. Betweeen changing drunkard and the ridiculous amounts of rewards last (and hopefully next) Wintersday distributed I find it hard to complain about how things are now.
Outerworld
The idea isn't terrible per say, but it would be way too much work for something so insignificant.

you can get sweet/party/drunk points outside of festivals and from buying from players.
Do the Zdailies for zcoins and youll achieve your goal. Slower than buying from players, but gained by playing the content already available without some update for year long mini-games.

I think the repliers are doing more QQ then the OP.
What I'm reading is that the OP would like to make is so that title progression is based up on skill, and not penchant for mindlessly farming areas ad infiniteum.
I'm not entirely convinced because A. mini-games suck. The last one added was polymock and I hate that with a passion.
B. You remove any reason for the ingame currency to exist once one has achieved skill hunter titles.
As a player who actually believes farming is a gaming sin and who is perpetually poor; I like the thought but it doesn't sound workable.

I am not an elite player, I have one toon on one account that has almost all of it's titles maxed. The consumable titles are now so easy to max that I can't believe the OP wants to make them easer. It just takes time, the Devs had already made the game so easy to play that Monty Hall could be called a scrouge.

Oh, but it wouldn't be easier. I even specifically said that it'd just be more enjoyable. Farming is simple. ANYONE can do it. It's just GRIND. Might as well make that "grind" more enjoyable for adding festivals.
Anyways, I will try to debate with some questions brought up by everyone.
1) This is not a QQ thread. Don't really care if you think that way, you're simply trying to be a dickhead if you're saying it is. I've been on forums and on the internet for well over 10 years, I know how people react (its why I even said I expected it in the OP)
2) Money sinks sink money out of the game. IE Skill hunter, since the money you spend disappears. Giving money to other players is not a money sink, thus, the title is not a money sink.
3)It would not make it easier, just more enjoyable. It would make it easier on those that don't want to countlessly grind and try to purchase things. I even said this earlier, I guess people fail to read. The annual festivals and buying/trading alcohol would still be easier and faster. My method would simply add end-game content for those that want to play minigames. If you don't like minigames, that's not a good reason to turn this idea down, because it's meant for the entire community, not just you. You should only "/notsign" if it's something that would hurt your gameplay, not if it's something you wouldn't use.
A lot of replies look like they are from people who didn't read, and then are complaining about my patience with the title. Lawl.

You are waiting for wintersday in july? you do know this weekend has dragonfestival right...
So get into the game and enjoy the minigames and quests there is these few days
I have to say Im unsure about your idea, I have to admit I went into this topic thinking it would be QQ and make it easier for me thread. However reading through your suggestion I did change my mind on that... your idea is not really all that bad, as anything else it would get boring after a while so the titles would be grindy. Many people don't like minigames seems to be an issue... but I'll say that although some minigames are bad good ones have/can be made.
I already maxed drunkard and party titles, and only bought very very few of the items to get there. Im still working on sweets but I can definitely get there with the events coming over time.
I think I'll be neutral on this... I don't particular see the need for it, as things does work already. But Im not really against it either and would not mind seeing something like it added... I would definitely give it a try if added... even if my sweet was maxed too.

Yes, I think people are misunderstanding my idea completely. As I expected, because being on these forums for 4 years I've only seen people make replies on how it'd effect their reputation. No way agreeing to something easier is a good thing.
I've been on forums and on the internet for well over 10 years, I know how people react (its why I even said I expected it in the OP) 2) Money sinks sink money out of the game. Lawl. |
2)Skill hunter sinks money out of the game because its not spreading money to other players? The money and time (even though YOU think its not hard) spent on skill hunter at the very least unlocks skills for your account which may not be necessary but a nice convenience (I at least think its worthwhile).
3)Your suggestion would make chasing these three titles more enjoyable and less grindy by adding a exclusive area which would only require you to beat the 3 campaigns and then grind the area year round at your leisure until you maxed the titles? Like I said before, can be done already with content already available.

In genuinely like this idea. I've achieved party already (tonic spamming ftw) and I have to say, it is a drain on your money.
I would make a suggestion though;
To gain access to the drops you must get R1 in the respective tier.
This would mean that the market wouldn't completely die off (yes, you make an excellent point about it still being that people could get it quickly, but the thing is, is that it will mean the market will eventually die off).
I do however LOVE the idea of this new area, it would tie in nicely with WoC (according to those who visited the fanday, you are greeted as the hero you really are by the Ministry of Purity).

1990 was 21 years ago. Think about that. In the mid 90s internet communication became far more wide spread with the use of IMs and emails.

I'd also like to tell everyone to back off from OP. He's simply sharing an idea, this is a free community. We have this section for SUGGESTIONS, I understand fully what OP is trying to say, what he is asking is probably a little much (given the Devs' record with updates), but this doesn't mean everybody needs to b*tch about it.
If you don't have anything nice to post, don't post it. The whole concept of Sardelac Sanitarium is for people to suggest things that THEY believe would improve game play or be a good addition and for others to provide FEEDBACK (feed back is not: oh you're QQing, this is a rubbish idea /endpost). . As OP stated, you shouldn't /notsign because YOU wont use it, /notsign because YOU think it's a bad idea. Up until recently I never did FoW, that doesn't mean it's a horrible part of the game or that I should vote against it's removal.
Leave OP alone, they are just sharing an IDEA.

I have 28/30 titles for GWAMM, one of the titles im doing currently is the sweet tooth title. Outside festivals I have a steady amount of sweets flowing in (without needing to buy them). Some examples:
- Kilroy/snowman dungeon
- post nicholas the traveler
- pre nicholas (use a taxi char to get the items to post)
- using zkeys/zcoins to get sweets
I don't want to do them all day, but beside GWAMM my other goal is to fill my HoM, meaning I have more then enough to do every day to make the game very enjoyable. Some of the things for the HoM (like getting a pvp-statue) combine very well with farming consumer-items (zaishen title).
So stating you can only get consumables during festivals is simply not right, its only during festivals they are easier to get.

Hmm.... topic title is a bit misleading compared to the actual idea.... initially it gave me the impression that it was about giving the consumable titles some functionality. But ok, the actual idea goes into a rather different direction.
In principal adding year round mini games is quite a nice idea, even though I personally am not a fan of mini games others may be, and from what I understood mini games is something that we will also find in GW2. It would give people something to do while waiting on others to go do something together and still being able to enjoy the game and progress on one or the other title. Or just have them enjoy the game in a different way.
However, adding mini games for the sole purpose of progressing the consumable titles (or other titles for that matter) is not the right argument in my opinion. Their main purpose should be entertaining the people who play them. That the people playing them can progress certain titles with the rewards given should merely be a side effect.
Now if such mini games would be added, then what about the reward? Contrary to the special events I think that rewards from permanently available activities should be in balance with the other permanently available alternatives. That way the titles are also not made easier, it is merely another option to achieve the same goal. In case the rewards are balanced with the other available alternatives it also is not critical in my opinion to have the rewards be non-tradable.

- Do Z quests to get Z coins which can be traded in.
- Do Nic in Pre and then taxi across when have substantial amount
- Do Nic in Post every week
- Do quests / dungeons associated with drops (Snowman/Frontis)
- Farm some money and buy from merchants
- Farm some money and buy from players
- Farm Balthazar faction for Z keys and use
There is a few.... I've maxed the 3 consumable titles on 2 characters - its not hard and when you have friends to help you its even better to move things on.
Whilst I wouldn't mind mini games to help me max my unlucky title, I don't think an elitist "I've done all this" area is the right way to go... as what about people who cannot afford all the games - do you penalise them? Already the boardwalk needs access to Cantha and the idea, whilst has some merit has severe downsides too.
From my point of view, for game play and someone with 1 GWAMM already and 2 close to a GWAMM - its not going to improve the options of getting there.... as it comes down to it you want a title you need to work on a title even if if means working on saving some money or doing things over and over.
This game isn't a "please make it easy for me" game and it shouldn't be. Nor should we promote the even more elitist attitudes in the game of "I've done this and you haven't" - it's bad enough with the pvp title spikes.
Just let Anet work on GW2 and perhaps so useful additions to GW1 (WoC!!) than things to make a title gain easier than it already is....

superraptors
far too many things are handed to players already.

Regardless of if it's easy or not, GWAMM isn't necessary and neither are those titles. Consumable titles will never mean anything.
