Old nostalgia?
TinyTheEle
I recently remade a prophecies character to help out a friend playing..
I miss the adventure, I miss the wide eyes when you see the beacons at Beacon's Perch, I miss the whole "LFR to LA" although I hate prophecies.
Factions really gets me too! Like the whole "SH lfg" for FFF
What are some things you would find back then, and not now?
Doesn't have to be just prophecies, but that would be pretty cool.

I'm kind of discovering pre-searing for the first time and am having fun with the economy of non-max weapons. I realize that I missed the time (I started in the post-Nightfall era) when max weapons were something really special and it was kind of exciting to get a gold drop that might actually be something really special. Nowadays just about everything is "merch food" unless it comes from a high end dungeon or elite chest.
Ethoiwyr
Fiery Dragon Swords. They always bring me back to my earlier days.
akelarumi
Clicking the shrine with Althea's ashes a split second before I was killed for the 1000th time, and the victorydance me and my mates had afterwards.
Liniim
I still have an old max r8 fiery dragon sword i bought for 1.5k after making my first platinum, good times.
ACWhammy
Yeah i wish I was around back then. I was actually disapointed when I started playing in 08 at how cheap and easy it was to find a max weapon with max stats from other players so early in the game. It took the challenge away. Regardless, I played through and capped all my elite skills and got legendary survivor the old-fashioned way. Eh whatever, there's always GW2
Shadow Sentinel
Yeah, Post-searing Ascalon is the new Pre.
To the "good old days!"
To the "good old days!"
Xenex Xclame
The thing I miss and always end up thinking about when thinking of the past of GW was Skill Charms <3
Rebelor
i want my clay bricks back!!!!
To Chicken To Die
Back in the first (half) year of guildwars were groups were made with players and not hencman trough every single mission in prophics and not everyone being an ass.
O yay and thunderhead keep ftw
O yay and thunderhead keep ftw
mathiastemplar
When a purple Summit Axe was my best weapon, and I was tanking Sorrow's Furnace 5-man runs with my friends
EPO Bot
Not even henches???
Unplayable now. Period.
Or maybe still playable but with mind numbing waiting times or else extremely rigid guild sheduling.
Seriously, why do people think heroes ruined the game again?
Also, i remember from my first day that i got black dye and used it om my roughspun handwraps. Dye trader? What's that?

I think a lot of people miss that nostalgia when just starting to play GuildWars2 without playing GuildWars first.

Getting my first set of FoW armour in prophecies after spending about 2 months farming ecto with my friend with 55/SS and pugging FoW where being able to do the quest to craft your armor was a huge achivement.

You all brought back some great memories, Prophesies first time round was the wonder period to me.
Pre searing scenery was unbelievable and our reaction to post was almost as if it actually happened to us.
Ascalon in post was a dismal place and we couldn't wait to get out of it.
So I think nothing since has beaten the first time through the prophesies storyline.
I do think though that we look back with rose tinted glasses there were nearly always long waits for parties, usually waiting for a monk or in some areas 2 monks.
It was not uncommon to spend an entire evening doing one maybe 2 missions and most of that was waiting for a party.

Doing all the quests in Old Ascalon one by one, without knowing which quests could be done together to minimize the time needed, nor the quickest path to reach each zone, resulting in each simple quest being a new adventure which i could fully enjoy, instead of now that i remember exactly every quest and the shortest routes, so doing them means something really close to a factory work. Also, enjoying the beautiful scenes (i never played a 3D game this big before) and noting closely every detail, while being amazed by them in the meantime.
Playing a Power Shot/Bane Signet R/Mo build after leaving pre-searing (and bane-s was my most damaging skill!), and my guildmate telling me that i had to switch to a better build
Going into UW with a couple of guildmates and clearing a couple of areas only for fun, when an ecto dropping for one of us whas like "wow! gratz!!!what a luck!!", not being bothered with completing it for the HoM, or farming ectos, or anything else then fun. I was a noob back then, i had only a ranger with only few skills, so they told me to run a Practiced Stance-Chocking Gas combo interrupter build..i didn't know if it was effective - nor i cared - but damn, it was fun talking and laughing in TS while having nothing more than a good time!
Starting a necromancer as second character for being amazed by the minion masters i saw around, thinking that those were incredibly powerful roles.
Getting down to RA for the first time because friends wanted me to join them in Team Arenas, but i didn't have them unlocked yet, and being really scared the first time by the completely new game format i was facing.
That night when my guildmates helped me doing Sanctum Cay for the first time with my ranger, than we finished it, and before the cinematic ended one of them said to me "Welcome to the desert!", then the Amnoon Oasis loaded and i saw the desert for the first time..i still remember it clearly..

I also remember THK. Oh man, that mission was tough back then. Then the most awesome boring glitch ever with books and gears. You wiped everything, but if you were the bonder..you basically fell asleep (and I did) because all you had to do was stand there.
Ov3r Th3r3
When i first made it all the way to the Magumma Jungle doing missions solo and thinking that i was about to finish the campaign! then i found out about the rest of the world, and runners...
SyoM
One huge thing I really miss from back then was the 5 man sorrows furnace groups...oh and did I mention, the master gear tanking? lol...that was great. Pick up a master gear, and suddenly all aggro was going at the carrier.
Took me forever to get a Rago's Flame Staff, and I sold it for 3k without knowing the price for one back then, I still laugh about it when I think of it...lol

Getting my first 100k and blowing it on a q8 15^50 max FDS in July 2005. I still have it.

The most vivid (and early) memory I have of GW is walking down the hill in pre-Ascalon right after creating my first character, and seeing people going around and spontaneously burst into the golden flames of the quest reward aura, and the "whoosh" sound that goes with it. I didn't know why or how they did that, but it looked like the coolest thing in the world.

Going through Prophecies without knowing how big the world would be. My first online game and I was really a newbie in every sense. Getting Factions a few weeks later and going crazy when I hit the mainland with the level 20 quests so quickly.

Wandering around explorable areas during one of the betas that dumped you in LA and finding out that Henchmen level! I had been wandering around for many hours.
Getting that first taste of Ascalon in a beta and remembering where LA was and thinking OMG the world is HUGE!
Getting to LA a few weeks after release and thinking I had to be pretty close to done with the game. Then being happy I wasn't even close to finished.
Capturing my first Elite Skill back when you had to wait for the boss to use it first. It was Gladiator's Defense.

Most of my first run through Prophecies consists of fond memories for me.
Getting to Amnoon Oasis (I adore the Crystal Desert and the Desolation) and buying my first max weapon. I don't use it anymore, but still have it.
Having absolutely no idea what the Augury Rock mission was going to entail, and then beating my doppleganger.
Pugging my way through Sanctum Cay. Some teams were good, some were bad, all were educational. OTOH, I also remember fondly soloing (with henchmen) the rest of the game, because i like to figure things out on my own and get taken by surprise.
I have to admit though that my biggest "OMG THAT WAS AWESOME" moment came in Nightfall, and that was the first time I rode the wurms. I still love the wurms. Second to that would be the first time I realized you could see the Crystal Desert from the Desolation and actually cross back and forth between them.

Some of the old farms bring back good memories. I remember farming Fire Imps outside LA with my ranger. Farming Totem Axes, and the Edge of Extinction farms were always fun.

My first go at Prophecies and seeing all the different places in Tyria. I had no idea about runs to LA. How proud I was when I finally spawned in that city after managing my way through the Shiverpeaks.
Or the shortcuts to Sanctum. I just went through all the hoops to get there and and finding out I was just about something over half way to the end. But I loved it nonetheless. :P

In the eye of the north preview weekend, we could only explore the northern shiverpeaks. me and a random group went out from sifhalla to the now famous "rabbit hole". we went down the rabbit hole. the boss spawned and we thought "oh this shouldn't be to ba-"*30 demons spawn* "OMGWTF?!"
Also, from eye of the north, when you get the elite ursan skill. before it got nerfed. now, i understand why it was nerfed but when i first got it, it was on my ele that had to stay in the back lines of group and hope i didnt aggro anything. when i got that ursan, equiped my zealous scythe, and had 102 energy feck needing a tank I WAS A GOD. XD

My greatest memory from back in the day was joining with random level 10s attempting the Beacon's Perch->Lornar's Pass crossing - failing each and every time. The skills we all had, the poor armour, the low-levels we all were makes me now think wth did we try that so many times. Good times.
The most defining moment which sticks out to me was the early Nightfall quests, leading up to an obvious war; but thinking, we're just gonna see the aftermath like Prophecies' Charr Searing. I was wrong. Stepping off the boat, adrenaline pumping music playing - other Sunspears' fighting. This is and will always be my favourite mission.

"Group looking for 2 monks to go!"
The tidbit about Lomar's pass above made me remember when I was bored one night so I joined a "run for tips" to Droknar's even though my warrior had already been through the game. The tandem team that was attempting the run both died and left, so I ran the three newblars with me all the way to Drok's with my WA/ME who wasn't set up at all for running.

Things I miss...
Purple weapons being good enough to use and not auto merch...
Letting someone into a PuG because they were a "good level 18" (someone elses words, not mine [yes that statement has stuck with me]) and not because they were r4896534897 and have 12 billion stones that they just bought off some other sap
When the ele was the king of damage, and arcane echo + meteor shower was hot stuff (pun fully intended)
Farming those greens outside of Deldrimor War Camp (DAMN YOU WROTH AND YOUR MARK OF PROTECTION)
But it all pales in caparison to the simple joy of exploring the world. It seems like new players dont make it to a lot of the outposts in Proph because they dont need to go there (I'm looking at you Maguuma Stade) I remember buying the game, and getting the original guidebook so I could have a handy reference for what all the different skills did. It came with a nifty map/poster that had all the outposts listed on it (fun fact, the deldrimor war camp isnt actually on there), and I made it my mission to visit every outpost on that map. I dont get that same sense of discovery anymore, its kind of sad.
As a random aside, some of the original skill descriptions in the guidebook are pretty awesome.

My first day ever, outside of pre, immediately as I left, my friends paid for a run from ascalon to beacon's, then paid for a droks run. After that was done, they took me slaying in the southern shiverpeaks to help me level and im just in awe and im asking them questions and learning about shit via teamspeak. And to top it off, I got my first green! http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Wroth%27s_Icon

Yes, I sucked that bad back in 05.
My favorite moment though, had to be when I finally got to Perdition Rock. I'm a sword Warrior, and I thought 100 Blades was "the stuff" back then, and I knew I was 3 missions away from finally capping it. After I capped it, I ran 100b EVERYWHERE with my leet leet FDS. I thought that was the coolest sword ever, and I still have it.
And I must say, no end game mission since Prophecies has been worthy of BEING an end game mission. When I finally beat it, I had a real feeling of satisfaction afterwards, like "Yeah, *I* did that!".
I was rather pissed off at the end of Nightfall - that end mission is a joke. Factions end mission, beat it in 2 minutes and you get the bonus? Eye of the North end game plays just like Factions - can beat the boss in less then 2 minutes. All are just short and quick.
Crap, I strayed off topic.

I also enjoyed the final mission of Prophecies. That revelation of Rurik, possibly my favorite GW character, was shocking the first time through. I remember going through with two friends and henchies and they all died and I tanked Rurik by myself and killed him, good stuff.
One of my favorite things to do was FoW runs with the guild during the prophecies only days. I would run the tank with the book so I would soak up the damage while everyone else did the killing. That was always a fun run, with good people to chat and goof off with. We never finished the entire FoW because of time constraints, but we always got a good run in through to at least the forgemaster. In the end, we would run down the beach to the spider cave, usually only myself and maybe one other making it that far, and just goof off and see how long we could last while popping as many as we could. Those were good times with good people.
I also remember how hard Thunderhead Keep was originally in Prophecies. It was either a good group, like a guild group, or you would fail hard. Then we had a bonder, and it was a piece of cake, until we got cocky and started goofing off and Jalis lost his bond and got killed by a mursaat boss who slipped by. That one hurt, but it was all in good fun.
5 man sorrow furnace groups, ranger farming UW, capping skills after they were used, farming the IDS when it was all the rage, all fun times. I also ran the lost strongbox in dreadnaught's drift for drops, and that's where i got my purple crystalline, which was "OMG awesome" back in the day, and showing fellow guildmates how to do the IDS or strongbox runs. The most fun part for me was the people who I was interacting with and having fun with, that's what made the game for me.
Edit: Heh, who else remembers skipping by the portal in granite citadel and running until the map ran out, the so called edge of the world?
