Mysteries from the Great Beyond
shinta_himura
I think now is a great time to start discussing and speculating about some older unresolved issues in the current plot as well as new ones, and how they might all link together.
WARNING: Of course, this post contains SPOILERS relating to many parts of the Guild Wars story line in general, proceed with caution.
For reference: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_Beyond
Here's a list of some things:
Livia and the Scepter of Orr:
- At the end of EOTN we are shown that Livia finds what could potentially be the Scepter of Orr. When exactly does this scene happen? After EOTN but before WiK/WoC? Or much later? What is her current status?
M.O.X Quests:
- Who exactly is the "client" that gave Zinn the sabotaged power cores for those golems? He was apparently aiming to assassinate VIPs from every nation, what is the significance of this character and might he be connected to any other events currently on-going?
War in Kryta:
- Evennia is reported missing, her last known location is outside of Old Ascalon awaiting an audience with Adelburn to request Ascalonian aid in the war. But the war is over now. What is her fate and where will it tie into the rest of Beyond?
Hearts of the North:
- Miku: Who is she exactly and what is her significance in the current events of Cantha? What is her "unfinished business"? What led her to Kryta in the first place? Who is the "He" mentioned by Danthor and what is his plot?
Halloween 2010 / Lunatic Court:
- What will be the long-term effects of the Flux on the world, and the weakened barriers between the mortal realm and the Mists? Who is the other "someone" who is looking to return to Tyria? What significance is there to the "Nameless Lich" who was seen in Droknar's Forge during Halloween 2010?
Menzies:
- Dhuum has been fully established as Grenth's rival and has been in-game as an encounter for a while now, but Balthazar's rival Menzies remains unseen. Menzies' forces are active in the FoW, but where is he, and is he plotting anything?
Winds of Change:
- Rescue at Minister Cho's Estate: What led them to go there, to a "lost zone"?
- The Scavengers of Shing Jea: Is it a bug that the Scavenger Mobs are carrying Oppressor Weapons, or does that have some significance?
- The Am Fah Courier: Where was he intending to go with the message about the Chalice of Corruption?
- Jeijou, Shadow Whispered: Who or what was the "voice" that taught him how to make a Chalice of Corruption?
- Reiko and Ashu: Who are they and what is their vision? Ashu is said to be a "child", and Initiate Tsuriai mentions: "The ancestor spirits saw fit to spare the life of Ashu".
Etc.

EDIT: Got my characters mixed up. What Tummlykins said.
tummlykins
Miku is the missing daughter of the Yuudachi family. Ashu is her brother. I don't know who Reiko is just yet - I think they are two separate people, the Winds of Change page on the GW website allows you to hover your mouse over the characters, there are two females, one in a Ministry of Purity like guise and one with armour a lot like Miku's. Their names are currently unknown, according to the site when you hover over them, so I guess we will have to wait for part two. If nothing else, it suggests that one might be Reiko - the Ministry of Purity one (seeing as she is in the Ministry) and the other is Miku, which would indicate to me that she's a different person. The mysterious voice talking about the chalice of corruption also sounds like the mysterious man who was giving Danthor his orders from HotN. I wouldn't be surprised if Ashu or Reiko turned out to be the mysterious voice and were trying to manipulate things from behind the scenes.
shinta_himura
Yes it seems heavily implied with what we currently have that Miku is the missing Yuudachi daughter, but I don't think it's confirmed yet, or is it?
Now that I think about it... Maybe this mysterious "person" is the Client who gave Zinn the sabotaged cores? If the Am Fah courier was on his way to other nations to spread the plague elsewhere, that would work with the Client's goal of causing world wide havoc. And trying to frame the new Monarchy in such a way is just as conniving and clever as the power core plot.
Although I thought the voice was Shiro at first. Since I'm guessing Shiro would be the only other person who knows how to handle the Plague.
This is a really huge stretch but maybe the Client is Xien from Oola's Lab. He was trying to loot the lab of "treasures" and Oola of course is a golemancer, there may have been some knowledge or something there that would help him figure out how to create those sabotaged cores. Xien's affiliation is with the "Outcasts" (this may not be relevant plot-wise) which could then tie all of this to Kanaxai, who's motives and origin are still a mystery.
Zinn describing what happened after making R.O.X: "To my horror, the great beast snatched me up and the stranger appeared from out of nowhere to inform me that I was now under his control."
Appearing out of no where, that could be shadow stepping. Xien was an assassin the last time we saw him officially, and his elite skill was even a shadow step, but that's beside the point; assassins are known for their ability to shadow step.
EDIT: What the hell is an Outcast doing all the way in the Asuran Lands, anyway?

Evenia - remember anet said her part in the story will come later on , and its hard to speculate when we know nothing - like guessing gw2 release date lol.
As for the outcast - i bet he was shopping in kaineng and fell into the chasm and got thru a gate.

Yeah it's really cool!
Something just occurred to me. During HoN the Mantle were trying to frame the Shining Blade.
What if someone is trying to frame Ascalon by kidnapping Evennia, making it look like Ascalon did it since there are obvious tensions between Kryta and Ascalon? I'm sure it's pretty easy to get snatched up in a place like that.

Livia and the Scepter of Orr:
We were told that Livia did find the Scepter of Orr and had it "for a time" - she's likely mentioned, not by named by as a "human necromancer" who helped Blimm in his studies. She finds the Scepter of Orr post-War in Kryta, according to what Linsey said a while while back. When is unknown at this time.
M.O.X Quests:
We don't know who the "mysterious stranger" was. I personally suspect Lazarus, considering Salma wasn't even a queen yet, but it's mere speculation.
War in Kryta:
We're supposedly going to learn Evennia's fate in a future Beyond chapter which is meant to take place in Ascalon. This supposedly will be following the Ebon Vanguard's withdrawl into Ebonhawke.
Hearts of the North:
- Miku: Who is she exactly and what is her significance in the current events of Cantha? What is her "unfinished business"? What led her to Kryta in the first place? Who is the "He" mentioned by Danthor and what is his plot?
Despite what Tummlykins says, it is not confirmed - just highly suspected - that Miku is Ashu's sister.
What led her to Kryta was probably the plague and if she is of the Yuudachi family, her family's death. Her unfinished business would be her family's death, again if she's of that family. Otherwise we don't know yet.
Danthor is most likely referring to Isaiah, as a Shining Blade fella (one of the Confessor's Orders) says he's a man to leave orders after his death.
Halloween 2010 / Lunatic Court:
My guess on who that someone is - Menzies. I say this because last Wintersday the new priests/priestesses of Balthazar and Melandru said there is a coming darkness. And who's affiliated with darkness the most? Menzies.
Menzies:
See above.
Winds of Change:
Rescue: There's an encounter in a Shing Jea Island zone that says that peasants have begun to try to act as fighters despite not knowing how to fight. I bet that's why they went there.
Scavenger weapons: Most likely a bug/placeholder weapons that were not fixed before release.
Am Fah Courier: My guess is anywhere. The ability to spread the Affliction would cause good chaos elsewhere. It also seemed like a ploy, considering the dialogue of Jeijou.
Jeijou, Shadow Whispered: Most likely Shiro.
Reiko and Ashu: We'll have to see
I don't think you should take models seriously. EN reuses a lot. I think Xein's affiliation is placed as such on the wiki due to the model and inaccuracy, but I highly doubt he's an outcast in mechanics.
Xien is not the client, as he's killed in the dungeon.

"priests/priestesses of Balthazar and Melandru said there is a coming darkness."
THAT is what I was looking for, I knew there some foreboding prophecy of "greater challenges to come", I thought it was in a War in Kryta dialogue but I couldn't find anything.
I really hope it's Menzies or at least something that remains unresolved, rather than something new.
About Xien dying: Aren't there instances where a boss is defeated in a mission but later returns? I think this happens with Markus in some of the Maguuma missions.

Personally, I'd prefer if it was Lord Odran, as he'd be more interesting, imo, to see fleshed out. And of course he's dead so could easily use the Lunatic Court's method for Thorn.
And no, Marcus never dies. Nor does a boss die and return - except when they return as a ghost or undead (Rurik; Shiro/Lich in GoM; Varesh returning as a Margonite; so forth - three cases being with the help of a god). We've yet to see a NPC be resurrected through lore means - unless you count Shiro.

Well, Markis does die, he just doesn't come back from it. :P
Resurrection in general is a bit of a grey area, in that we never see it outside of game mechanics, but it does get talked about in some cutscenes (Glint talking about how if Evennia and Saidra are sacrificed on the Bloodstone, there is no magic that can bring them back, for instance).
On Danthor's mysterious master - my gut feeling is either Isaiah drafting orders for after his death as Konig says, or Lazarus making sure he'll still have minions if the other mursaat fall.

Odran would be interesting... He seems like the kind of guy who would be eager to come back.

I'm curious about many of the things found in the EotN environments, (Shifty eyed statue heads in the asuran jungles, etc.) but what I'm most curious about at the moment is that big dragon trapped in an ice pillar in Ice Cliff Chasms, a little north of the Eye of the North tower. I, like most everyone else, know it's not an elder dragon, but what IS it exactly? If it was a general/champion or something, shouldn't it have maybe had at least SOME kind of mention in the game? I know the ice golems seem to like it...
Prestige
The Elder dragon found in the lake is actually found in the explorable area ''Drakar Lake''.
Frozen within the lake itself is a large creature. It is a champion of Jormag, one of the Elder Dragons to be featured in Guild Wars 2.
Jormag :
However, a mighty norn warrior, Asgeir, was able to cut out a fang from Jormag's mouth before leading his people south with the aid of the Spirits of the Wild
That is why he appears in a Norn area in Eye of the North Expansion.

Jormag :
Quote:
Jormag is the ice Elder Dragon and is sometimes called "Dragon" by the Sons of Svanir. As early as 1078 AE Jormag was actively influencing Tyria. He whispered promises of power to Svanir through his currently unnamed champion[1] and turned him into the dragon's first champion, a half-norn half-bear covered in ice known as the Nornbear. Jormag also robbed Svanir's sister, Jora, of her ability to "become the bear. |

I already know about the champion trapped in Drakkar lake. I'm referring to a skinny serpentine dragon trapped in an ice pillar in the explorable area Ice Cliff Chasms. There are a few ice golems walking circles around it, and one ice golem boss.

What you just said is conflicting...
The Elder dragon found in the lake is actually found in the explorable area ''Drakar Lake''.
That's wrong.
Frozen within the lake itself is a large creature. It is a champion of Jormag, one of the Elder Dragons to be featured in Guild Wars 2.
This is right. The thing in the lake is a CHAMPION of Jormag. Not Jormag himself.
alextheprecise
It was also said that Jormag itself rose from the lake in "the movement of the world". I believe that Jormag is merely buried deeper in the snow and ice with its champion frozen above it. ArenaNet probably originally intended the visible one to be Jormag but had to change it when they made the other elder dragons much larger.
Konig Des Todes
The only time the word "lake" is mentioned in the Movement of the World is in regards to the deep sea dragon and its tentacle minions in "every lake and river." Jormag is said to have "arose in the farthest northern peaks".

This will be further addressed in the Halloween 2011 event. More lore will be put in. I personally received this info from a Dev (as did a few other ppls).
