I'm in Ice Caves of Sorrow atm and was wondering if it is possible to walk to THK and start its coop?

Yes you can. Go Thalus Chute - Icedome - Frozen Forest - Ice Floe. There should be no restriction with the portal to THK, but you might have troubles with the Mursaat if you're not infused.

It may actually be quicker and easier to do the missions, plus you'll get XP, skill points, and credit towards their completion for the title.

Indeed - the missions take less time, since you don't have to walk ALL the way and are teleported to next mission outpost ipon mission completion.
