HoM: Character Names Saved for GW2?
bennyandthejets
Hello,
I started playing a few months ago & when I initially read information on the Hall of Monuments I could have sworn I read something about our names being saved for us when we create characters in GW2. I looked over the HoM facts again today & see no such information. Anyone know?

"Players who choose to link their Guild Wars accounts to their Guild Wars 2 accounts will have their Character names from Guild Wars reserved for the linked account." - wiki

doesnt explain if someone makes a char with the same name before you link yer account. any more details known?
Rushin Roulette
You will have to explain your question. It is impossible to make 2 characters with the same name. If you delete a character from your account, the name is locked to that account for a certain time. Until this grace period is over, only the original user can create characters with that name.

I think what he is saying is, what if, you have a char called Mickey Mouse and BEFORE you link your account to GW2, someone else calls their GW2 char Mickey Mouse, what will happen to your char name.... (idk btw)

untill you have linked your GW account with GW2 account no names are reserverd, thus allowing anyone to make a char called "Rushin Roulette" in GW2 before you had the chance to link your account and reserving that name
or will it be on an IF available basis?

Before GW2 is released, players from GW1 will have an oppertunity to reserve names from GW1 for their use in GW2. Only names of characters you personally own can be reserved.
If you choose not to use that grace period to reserve your name, then when GW2 is released, it will be possible for them to take it, as you did not link your accounts and reserve your name(s). It is unknown whether or not you will still be able to reserve names after a certain ammount of time has passed after GW2's release. My guess is that the feature will always be available, however if a name is taken before you reserve it, you will not be able to use it as someone else already has it.

Thot
One more question on this topic :
I make a character with name "Mickey Mouse"
I make him a Mercenary Hero
I delete "Mickey Mouse" (but I still have the Mercenary Hero with that name)
Is "Mickey Mouse" still reserved for GW2 ?

Just a note anything beyond this quote is speculation and more official information will come closer to release.

Like Draca said. Everything is just speculation. We have no idea how names are saved yet, or how the account will be linked, or exactly how it will all work. They haven't given us any information other than we can save our names and we get rewards from the stuff we do in GW1.
That is it.

I would say "no".
The reason being is that it is most likely you will either have to log in as a character to reserve a name or from the log in screen, select a character and click "reserve name". Neither of those would be possible to do with a mercenary hero.
However, that is speculation on my part. We do not know how the system will work, but those would be the most user-friendly options. And before someone responds "that wouldn't make me happy!", user-friendly =/= everyone is happy. User friendly means it is the most effective way to do it for most players.

the one you love to hate
here is a situation that hasn't been addressed. although it is right on the edge of what is being discussed here...
let's say my character Balths Knight: who has a very pretty HoM and is almost at full HoM 49/50 points. just for example. if i dont register him in the pre register time period... and i fail to buy the game at the initial release date... then someone goes out and says wow i want a nice name like Balths Knight... and they take it for themselves...
what about my HoM... will they have access to it seeing as how it is linked to that name... because if so... i am going to take White Wasabi's lol just joking... but seriously. there are so many HoM that are filled to the max. and if those people dont take advantage of this grace period to link the accounts. can someone theoretically take their items...?

No haha, because you have to enter the account info to link the accounts.

hall of monuments rewards are account-linked not character name linked
This is why you will be able to get rewards even if you don't re-use GW1 names. To get your rewards, you must link the GW2 account to an existing GW1 account. Character names have no influence on rewards.

I don't think the HoM would be directly related to reserving names, but we don't know the details yet. I would assume though, that there would only be a certain period of time in which to do it - a few months maybe - they can't logically block all 50 bazillion GW1 names forever.
I would guess that your best bet for reserving names would be to be active in GW1 when GW2 is released and have an HoM (not necessarily with anything in it, but just to be sure).
