This weeks subject is the human body in general!
In the first week I heard Qing Guang requesting to do the male body in general. I figured its best to build up from the start, so instead of doing a specific body part, it's good to start with a general basis first. So here it is
This week will all be about the general shapes of the human body, what distinguishes males from females and of course proportions! Next week, I will move on to the different types of bodies, so we'll get that covered too!This week will feature both the male and the female body so you get a good idea of what shapes are characteristic to their gender. And of course, this way we can tackle more subjects
So... let's get to business!
The human body
There are multiple ways to get to a realistic human body. None of them are better as the other as long as they work for you. If you haven't found a good method yet, then hopefully this week will help you out a bit!
An often used approach is to memorize parts of the human body have about the same size as other parts. For example, the human male head is about the size of his hand, his whole body is build out of ±8 heads and so on. These little tricks are very useful, specially with you don't have reference at hand. Here you can find a great example of this method.
I could make a list of all features and proportions of the human body, but that would be kind of a waste, since there have been tons of artists who done it before me, and they probably did a better job at it
So I'm going to refrain from going into detail, and have you show some initiative by checking out all the great tutorials and overviews I will post below. I think the most memorable for me to say is that what's considered the ideal body is 8 heads high. Alright, I think these little tutorials and overviews should give you a good idea about how the human body works. Now master it and make it your own! I can only suggest to very childly take on the exercise of looking at the upcoming references and divide them in heads. Because reading about things is always very differently then doing them! Repeat it a few times and then see how well you'll do without the references. Good luck!

I took all standing poses as I think those are the best to begin with. But the information found above of course also applies to sitting, laying, jumping etc. So if these body shapes go alright, try out some more advanced poses!

I would suggest books by Burne Hogarth and Andrew Loomis.
Also, you say the male hand is as big as the head - perhaps you should edit that to "face". Too lazy to add more, sorry.

I.... to be honest, I've never participated in any of these workshop things. I have no idea what you're supposed to do in one of them. Are they just themed threads where you can share useful resources/links and get critique on arts?

@IH That would be correct; I haven't gotten a chance to look through every resource but it appears there should be plenty of information for both genders
 @Araiia Pretty much I was originally doing this as a personal project for the summer so I could improve my character drawing, then Tommy and I began to collaborate as he had wanted to join me. So we just sort of figured we would open it up to the rest of Nolani to join in Its really for self-improvement, so do what ever you need to improve yourself. Each week is going to focus on a specific aspect of the figure, anatomy, and/or drawing people in general. We try to find and provide good resources, but we are always looking for more And you can always go to the archive thread and work on previous subjects as well

@IH: That actually looks really good. I agree with Drelias that the basic stance might be better for practice.
@Pandora: Those look great! I especially like the shading. It looks like something you would stumble upon in an old sketchbook. ... if that made sense. Do you happen to have these as photographs, or a reference you could share for others to use? I might want to take my hand at the two people with the drapery and such. Going to try and make mine tonight, if not this weekend!

Alright, so I thought a bump for this would be the best way to get the message out.
