Returning to GW...help!
Scottpd
Alright folks,
I used to play Guild Wars when it first came out, and quite a bit, I got the expansions and played them, but slowly by drive to play disappeared and after a while I gave it up altogether. Now since I stopped playing, I have logged in every now and again and checked on the accounts, opened up my gift boxes for the mini pets and some friends raided my accounts of materials, equipment and cash, so I got a few bits and pieces still over but not a massive amount. In fact now I think about it, the last time I really played, the 55hp monk was just becoming popular.
The characters I have are a Warrior/monk, Monk/necromancer, Ranger/monk Paragon/monk and maybe one or two others but these are all leveled to 20. Anyway, so I just ordered the Eye of the North from Amazon, and am going to invest some time in it this coming weekend, and I am just wondering what builds are popular…what builds, out of what playable toons I have available, are alright to take me through Eye of the North?
Also, is farming still viable? I remember that they started introducing a point where the beasts started running away from you, and that sort of killed a lot of builds. I noticed the farming section here, so I’ll have a gander at that, but any tips from the community?
Basically, anything you can help with would be spot on, and any advice you want to give would be great. After not playing a game for a few years you miss out on a lot, but I plan on getting involved a bit and putting some time in this weekend especially.
Basically....whats new?
Thanks guys.
P.S. last time I logged in to guildwarsguru was 2006! That's how long it has been since I really played it.

There is an awful lot of updates to go through considering its been +4 years since I really played.

Pick a toon, press K, read all skill descriptions. Make a build with skills you find synergize good, press L, do some quests. Jump to the Great Temple of Balthazar, take a Zaishen Mission quest, join PUGs in Hard Mode.
Playing is the only way you'll familiarize yourself with skills and builds. Nothing we write here will give a sense of gameplay and mechanics.

What does that make? The 100th post regarding the exact same question? Do they win a prize or something?

I guess it depends on what you would like to achieve. Many people in PvE are filling up their HOM.
Someone already posted the wiki link but here are the 2 that will be most helpful for you.

Ok then I played GW for 3 minutes some 14 years ago and have just decided to come back can anyone let me know every change that has been made.
I need to fill my hom so I can look a real badass player in GW2
No disrespect to the op but we have had a lot of posts about the same thing and considering the number of changes made its nearly impossible to reply.
If you have been away more than a year consider it a brand new game and learn from scratch, and good luck.
Filling the hom to 30 points isn't that hard 50 is another matter.
Farming is still viable but as an old time faming player you might find the usual farms less profitable.
Check out Zaishen missions also what materials are required for Consumables oh yeah look up consumables as well should be a decent profit to be made there.
Main trading centers are still there and Embark beach is the latest one, its an easy access point to the whole game but its too new to have taken over from Kamadan and the others.

Well, my suggestion would be to take your Warrior, Ranger, or Monk over to Nightfall. Finish Nightfall and get all the heroes there and all the skills you can. Get the heroes up to par, and then head to Eye of the North.
EoTN can be a bit on the tough side if you do not have good heroes and some game play experience. You can now have 7 heroes in your party so take advantage of that. Although, in the beginning the hench may do a better job for you until you have good skills for your heroes.
http://www.guildwiki.org/Main_Page is your friend. Reread the beginner's basics. Look up what you do not know like Nightfall how to get there. Google will help a lot too.
http://www.gwpvx.com/Main_Page has tons of info on builds for both your main character and your heroes.
Be patient and persistent. GW is now a vast game comparable to WoW in complexity. Get rolling and stay at it. Good luck and have fun!

Just use PvX if you feel really lazy to find a build for general PvE I guess
If you get stuck ask people or again, consult the wiki.
Some changes are:
WiK, HotN, WoC
Mesmer Changes, Dervish Changes
Dhuum
PvE skills
Dungeons
blah blah blah

Tbh someone should make a sticky with links to wiki for all changes and players could use that rather than the usual posts.
its bad enough when a guildie whos been on vacation for 3 weeks comes bk after a major update - bit like woc and trying to explain to them whats changed etc is damn hard.

Seriously - there's a lot of changes, too many to mention.. and we're not here to feed you 4 years worth of changes. If you want to know whats changed.. read the changes, read the wiki's, go read GWPVX for current builds, etc. also read the stickies and read other threads as well.
