A question about Mercenary Heroes

Alright, I have searched for an answer to this question, and did not find it explicitly stated, so here goes.

I thought I read somewhere that even if you only buy one (1) mercenary hero slot, you could still make all of the mercenary heroes you need by creating a pvp character, registering it as a merc, delete the pvp char (but not the merc hero created from it), make another pvp char with a different name, register this new pvp char as a merc hero, rinse and repeat for as many as you need.

Simply put, buy 1 merc hero slot, make 6 necromancer merc heroes making pvp characters with different names and registering.

However, from what I read on the official wiki, it sounds like it is the merc hero that occupies the merc hero slot, not the base character, which means that while you can delete the base character and the merc hero will remain, you can only have that one merc hero.

I wanted someone to declare definitively either way before I go purchasing, because I don't want to buy the 8 slots and find out that I only needed 1, or buy 1 slot and find out I needed all 8.

1 heroe take up 1 slot, if you want 6 necro merc heroes you need 6 slots

hi there, first of decide how many mercs you wish..eg lets say 3 you require

then with your spare char slot create a pvp char "Bob" select profession

register Bob then delete your PVP char.

Next ..create another PVP char... lyssa..do as above then delete lyssa

and so on till you have all your mercs made.

This method still worked a few weeks ago on an alt so still valid way to ensure all your chars can have the maximim mercs

So if i understanded right, you can make pvp char, register it as mercenary and delete, make new and register it too to other slot.
With this you could have example 7 Necromancer Heroes without needing to create a PVE charr and level it everytime?

you are mixing a few things here lets reiterate

First of you Buy from anet the Mercenary slots

You have your 8 normal slots for pve chars you use this method providing you have 1 spare slot left from your 8


So if you Purchase 6 Mercenary ones then you would have 6 mercenary along with the Normal heros that you aqire by playing the quests to unlock those

You need 1 slot per Merc, so, no matter how you make the Mercs, 6 mercs requires 6 slots.

Yes, you can make mercs using the PvP character method. And yes, you could therefore, have, for example, 7 Necro heroes.

You do need one slot for every hero you want to use at the same time. If you only have one slot, you can switch its class when you want(by deleting the merc then remaking one), but you'll never have more than that one merc hero with one slot. You don't need to level characters, you can use pvp chars, however you're more limited in their appearance choice if you do so. You can delete the pvp char once the merc has been created and the merc will stay available, they're not linked, the merc is just a copy of a character at one point in time.

If you want 7necros, assuming you use the 4 available as normal heroes(Olias, Master of Whispers, Livia and Razzah as a necro), you'd still need 3merc slots for 3 necros.
