Hi forum,
I know you can copy the GW.dat file to a new computer to avoid the hassle of downloading all the files from the server. I have done this plenty of times..but not in Windows 7. Currently, I downloaded all the files to my PC, and want to copy the gw.dat file to my laptop, but can't find the gw.dat file anywhere. I checked in the Guild Wars(x86) folder, and I have hidden folders view enable. Anyone knows where it is? Thanks.

Edit:
The current contents of the x86 folder is the GW shotcut, a Probe document, GW.exe, and a TMP file.

By default, it will be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars\gw.dat on a 64-bit machine.
If you can't find it there, just use the search feature in Windows:
Start, Computer, type "gw.dat" on upper right box and press enter.

Bristle is right, thats the place to look for it. If you can't find it you can always run the game with the -image option to download the gw.dat file again. This takes a couple of hours, so be sure to do it opvernight.

Can you not just use the computers search function to search for GW.dat

It may be that the ".dat" extension doesn't show up, depending upon your folder options. The gw.dat fill should be around 4 gigs though, so it should be easy to find. If you right click on a file, and select Properties, it will show the full filename. So, check any file that starts with "gw".
Note, depending upon the situation, gw.tmp could be very large as well, so make sure you find gw.dat.
Also, while the default location for GW is C:\Program Files\Guild Wars (32-bit), or C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars (64-bit), it will, of course, be in whatever drive/folder you initially put it in on your PC.

It's odd that the dat file isn't with GW.exe.
Check to see if the dat is in C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars. Replace [UserName] with your Windows 7 user name and be aware that AppData is a hidden folder.

The only files that you should find in .../Guild Wars are gw.exe, gw.dat and gw.tmp. Why is there a Guild Wars shortcut in there? Also, what's a Probe document?
Are you hiding "extensions for known file types"?
(Oh, and I just found and merged your duplicate thread. One is ample )
