Dear Hacker
Riot Narita
LOL, nice one.
Just hope you didn't lose any titles from the deleted characters (yours or theirs!), that were not already in your Hall of Monuments.

I laughed hard. Like many people here I thought this would turn out to be another QQ thread, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Must suck being whoever hacked your account.

O snap I knew I should've moved those on my main when I had the occasion!

I still feel bad for you that he deleted your characters
But glad that you can look at the positive side of a bad situation.

Shame ANet never listened and implemented a no-delete option on characters. But just re-create your character again, think of it as reliving the good old time

Think of it like Bambi. You can figure out the roles yourself.

I would really recommend contacting support right now, and letting them know what you found. Sounds to me like an account used to gather the items farmed/botted/scammed from several accounts. So, I'd worry that Anet doesn't get the wrong idea about you and notes that the items are not your own "ill gotten gains".
Chocolate_Prayers
OP would still have the emails from contacting NCSoft to have his/her account restored though. This should be enough to prove that he/she did not have access to the account while all the stuff was being siphoned from other victims onto that account. (assuming of course that the items in question were indeed as a result of further scams)

One word: Epic.

Even if whoever lost all those items wasn't the hacker himself it serves them right for not buying the account from a verified source.

I feel bad for the guy who thought he was buying a legit account, and then suddenly lost all his hard work and stuff.

Random person will have 40 stacks of glittering dust, 30+ golds/greens from Doa, stack of ectos and other things ?
Yes, random person will save all of that.
No.
Romy, epic man!
P.S. Whoever buys account from not legit source, deserve this.

All this wealth sickens me. If only they would take that attitude into the REAL WORLD. That's why I don't try to make money in games... just spend very little and instead you have constant profit while just playing the game in general. |
you use the money to work on your Hall of Momuments. Buy and dedicate minipets, high end weapons, Zaishen keys, armor sets etc.
I'm sure it was a bot farmer due to the weird names. But I must give you a few warnings! Just because you created entirely new character names doesn't mean they're not known to the hacker. If he have "friended" his stolen accounts, he will see your new name when you login again. Best you can do is just to keep a complicated password that you change monthly.
Coast
simple: don't buy accounts from other people

I thought the OP said somewhere they had "a" stack of ecto's and gave the rest to a friend?

I liked the read OP. Made me smile. I lost an account before so any time you can stick it to the hackers, it's a good thing.
Although monetarily you are making out in the end, I'd rather have my toons than my stuff. Those can always be replaced but the time and titles can't. It makes me hope they have an account rollback feature for GW2.

The OP remembers 40 stacks of Glittering Dust, but not how many ecto? Yeah okay. I call bs.

I have always been a very casual player of GW and an altoholic to boot. I have all the expansions, but did not even have a toon at max level when they were deleted. My Ranger was the highest, and I think she was 16 or 17. I had never actually seen ecto before, tbh. And I deleted several green weapons without even thinking about it before my friend asked if they were not rares.
I wish my toons had not been deleted. I was the leader (by default) of a defunct guild (The Dark Blade), and though my guildmates had long quit playing, I liked having the guild name and seeing them when they made occasional reappearances in game. Can't really get that back. And for some reason, the hacker did not bother to keep the birthday minis I had received, so they are gone.
But while I was irritated to find my toons gone, and REALLY irritated that some SOB had hacked my account, I suppose I ended up pretty well off, all told. Just wish he had left me those minis!

Hackers turn over accounts, they don't play on them.
Now the guy that was playing on the account should have been at least reasonably aware he was getting a stolen account.
But the person that actually hacked the account was not affected by this in the slightest.

If you have not closed the hole that they used to obtain your account in the first place, then they are free to hack into it again.

I'm certain some hackers play on stolen accounts, as seen by the occational bot infestations. The trick for them is to be able to transfer all the stuff they bot farmed onto their "legal" accounts without flagging them as bot traders. My guess is that they do use middle hand accounts for storage, aka. accounts that have been inactive for a long time, knowing that chance is smaller the original owner might come back. In this case the original owner's account might have been just such middle hand storage and hacker lost a few days of bot farming.
Romy
I cannot say whether it was the original hacker using the account, or some one who purchased the account to play. I have little sympathy for either, though perhaps somewhat more for the purchaser.
There are some things about the account that do not add up, though I have not played "end game" enough to know what makes sense and what doesn't, tbh.
I had already purchased extra character slots (for my altoholicness) and the hacker/purchaser had deleted all ten of my alts and substituted them with ten of his. All his toons had Xx or XxX or some variation flanking the names. Most of the toons were level 20, a few were level 2. They were about half PvP and half PvE. None had any money on them at all; there was about 2 plat in the bank.
All of them were holding items, and they were organized. One toon held tomes, another held Stygian green weapons and Malyx green weapons. A third held inscriptions and runes, and so on.
The Hall of Monuments had five points - three of which came from my purchasing Eye of the North, two came from someone - I presume the Hacker/purchaser - finishing the Tyria and Elona quests in normal mode.
There was significant faction on the account, and some faction items had been purchased. The account had been registered for the Tournament, whatever that means (any way to change the name of that?)
So, make of that what you will. I have two accounts, and I have transferred the stuff to my second account. I have also deleted poor Trevi, given the warnings I have received about the account being re-hacked. I will keep it open with new toons, but mainly play my second account.
My friend, to whom I already gave some items and ecto, was kind enough to give me a complete set of birthday presents (he also has several alts), so at least I have one set of those, although it kind of sucks that my alts will all get one-year gifts next year. :P
So there you have it - I did not lose much in the way of stuff (actually, I gained significantly) other than the age of my characters and the progress they had made (which was not that much), but I would gladly return all these items for my toons. But hey, its a game, and I would rather find amusement in the situation that QQ about it. And I am a big believer in karma, so if it was a purchaser who lost his ill-gotten toons, I hope he giving the hacker he bought it from an earful right now.

Thanx for the awesome read! I too have felt the sting of being hacked, my avatar is the only thing I have of my first toon. I did get my accnt back but with nothing in it, so congrats on the windfall you recieved and for getting justice!
Lupu
I had a really bad morning but this turned that around. I wish you and Trevi the best of luck!
