Changing a Mercenary Hero

I updated the armor on one of the characters I created a mercenary hero from and I wanted to pass it along to all of the characters that are using that hero. Wiki says that to avoid loosing any equipment, you can do the following:

Does this mean that with my Necromancer I need to go to a Mercenary Registrar, delete her own Mercenary, and then immediately recreate the Mercenary from her? Has anyone done this as it would be much easier than going through 10+ characters and removing all of the runes and equipment from this merc.

I've heard it said that this works, but I haven't tried it. The one time (so far) that I did that, I took the cautious approach and removed all the runes and weapons - but at the time I only had to do it with 6 or 7 of my characters, instead of all 12.

Certainty is machine-gun.
If you salvage vigor runes and expensive insignias from that merc on all your toons and save the weapons in inventory nothing bad can happen.

I think you must also unequip all weapons for that mercenary on each toon or they might be lost. You can test it by equipping them some worthless white weps and low value rune/insignia and see if they disappear or stay. I would like to hear the result.

That's definitely the safest route and I think I'm going to go this way.

This is a pretty good test so I'll try it tonight and report the results.

Runes disappeared for me, weapons however stayed. Say if I deleted a merch 3 dervish and make a merch 3 monk, my monk would be wielding the scythe. I always go on the save side and take off all the runes, it's a pain I know.

It says that everything would stay only if the merc was the same profession but I'm still going to play it safe and remove everything (even though it will be a slight pain).

I've done it and it worked for me.
Note that the runes only remain if the new merc is of the same profession.

I've deleted a few merc heroes because of new armour / makeover. Each time I had the character delete herself as a merc, then immediately add herself again. As a merc on my other characters, all her equipment, runes, etc. were still there and just her look had changed. I've done this with 5-6 characters and never had any problem at all.

I ended up just deleting the merc hero and immediately recreating it and all of the runes and weapons stayed on the merc for my other characters so it does work. Thanks for all the replies.

ah good to know that this is working... i already wasted a few superiour salvage kits and a lot of time just because i wanted to change the looks of my merc heroes (removing silly headpiece or new/other armor).

I've read the wiki and I cannot find this answer, so hopefully someone else knows.

If I buy a 3-pack of mercenary heroes, am I limited the same 3 Mercenary Heroes on all my characters, or can I have 3 mercs on one character, and 3 different mercs as heroes on another character?

You are limited to the same 3 on all characters.
