Hellloooo. So I've been away from GW for about a year and half now and decided to get back into it. I'm playing on a Canthan character that needs a sunspear skill. I went to Kamadan (already had it unlocked) and tried to get the skill only to find out I didn't have a high enough rank. So whatever, I'll go through the story. Evidently I hadn't even started it, as the closest quest-y person I could find was the guy who has you do the hero training. I finished and turned that in, blew past the dialogue, didn't know what to do after that. I looked it up online and it says that I'm supposed to see First Spear Dehvad, but he doesn't have anything for me. So I checked out the Castellan in the Great Hall, and he also doesn't have anything for me. I realized I didn't have the quest 'Battle Preparations' so I figured I must have deleted it long ago for some odd reason.
Not really sure what to do here. I checked the guy in Kaineng who gives you the Cantha->Elona quest, and he also doesn't have anything for me. Am I out of luck or just missing something?

you need to go to sun docks and speak to spearmarshal bendro, he will give you quest to get the heroes, then go to sunspear great hall and grab a quest there and do the quest securing champions dawn, which will reward you with a good amount of ss points, most likly getting you to about rank 6 in sunspear.

Yup, the quests you're currently thinking of are only for Elonian characters. As a Canthan, you have a different questline which begins in the Sun Docks.
