I love our community, it has always been really friendly (exceptions occur), so just ask your questions in all chat and you'll probably get an answer from a veteran. The prohpesis starting zone is probably the best bet if you want random people helping you with whatever you're doing because some people never leave that place called pre-searing.

Second, OK, some pointers:
-any profession can work out well, you just have to learn how it plays
-you can change your secondary profession at will later in the game, so don't spend too long deciding which one you want to get. If you're a caster, take /Elementalist secondary for Glyph of Lesser Energy and you won't regret it much
-gear hardly matters. The most expensive FoW armour is no stronger than the first max. armour for a mere 7.500 gold
-max level, lvl 20, is not the end of the game - it's actually more like graduating from college: the real life/game starts here
-power comes from a team using well designed skill builds, not your gear or level
-don't rush. Many of us have rushed through, only to kinda regret it eventually. Just play the game, enjoy the world and the storyline. You've got time
-the game is rather old. Most people who play only play for very specific goals, like titles, so it will often be hard to find a group. You'll have to use the henchmen and heroes most of the time
