Dragon Arena 2012 & Beyond
truOnyx
Dragon Arena is the best/favorite minigame pvp format any veteran player could ask for. The main issue has always been availability. Since 2012 is the year of the Dragon, and Guild Wars 2, which also heavily centered around dragons, will undoubtedly release in 2012... ANet should give us unlimited play Dragon Arena! Or at least until GW 2 release Players that only connect for events would return if they heard such news. This would allow the hardcore gamer title players to actually have a greater chance at max. And a GvG format like they had for snowball game last year would be interesting also. In all likelihood I'd really accept an additional "Special Event" just before GW 2 release day that enables us to enjoy some more DA before most say goodbye to GW Classic.
Also I have made videos of the best of the fighters in there over the years and enjoy rekindling our love/hate battles. Check out my latest epic and help convince ANet to give us some form of extended or unlimited Dragon Arena before GW 2 comes out!

Interesting Idea, unlikely to happen though.
Also, the way you wrote this:
Makes it sound like you're assuming that ANet will cease to work on GW1 the moment GW2 hits the shelves.
That being said, there's no reason for ANet to consider further lowering the difficulty of gaining prestigious PvP titles since this could ruin what's left of the competitive PvP scene entirely and reduce it to the other areas of the game where egoism and title discrimination run rampant...
I know of a few people who won't be getting GW2, but will be sticking to GW1 long after release and I'm sure they wouldn't want to see their beloved game go down the gurgler purely for the sake of entertaining a few people for a few months.

It may seem a gd idea on paper but i dont think it would be gd in practice.
Theres a lot of posts etc saying how pvp is dying and doing dragon arena may only add to that problem - players would initially pile into it untill the novelty wears off and then its bk to normal.
Many will also argue that if you add dragon arena then you should also add shing jea arena for full time use.Plus anet would end up doing skill rebalances sometime on it , fix rewards system and so on - so it wouldnt be left alone.

Making Dragon Arenas a regular feature has been suggested in various ways before:

iirc, Dragon Arena is also flooded with bots. Wouldn't be a great idea.

And what isn't? Flawed logic is flawed.
TBH I think all of the festival arena's should be perma since GW is on it's last legs. |
How about for once people actually give positive comments - players complain theres not many players now on gw but yet they cannot say anything positive which could bring either old players back or interest new players.
Every type of game has its flaws regardless how good it was and if we all said bad things then no1 would bother playing online games.
Some of us have been playing constantly for several years - thru the gd times and the bad times but we can still manage to give positive comments.
And saying gw is on its last legs wont fix any problems will it ?
And like i said already -the novelty will soon wear off if its perma , look at codex which for a short while had players trying it then losing interest.

Tbh, a permanent Dragon Arena will just lead to threads like this springing up every few weeks.

This made me laugh, thank you.
There are no prestigious pvp titles, go to certain other websites and you can buy a high level pvp title or gold trim guild of your choice, then spam emotes/run around with gold trim on display until your hearts content.
That and the fact most pvp is played with blatant match fixing, whether sync joining with spare accounts in CA/HA/GvG or syncing with your friends in RA so you have a chance vs necros with pets and firestorm rangers.
The only people who think PvP titles have any value are those grinding them.

The only assumptions I have of ANet is that GW 2 will come out during the year of the Dragon, 2012, and there will be a special flavor of event(s) leading up to that date. Unlimited Dragon Arena has been just a fantasy of mine and some other heavy PvP players over the years. There have been occurrences in the past where the admins were a tad slow on turning off/kicking all us out the servers a few times. Oh and Dragon Arena is horrible for points towards the Gamer title, which also ironically happens to NOT count as a PvP title Dwanya vs Grenth is the better rewarding format. We don't even need to jest that there won't be a mass exodus to GW 2 on a count of how many people are still joining GW Classic even now. It's a non-issue since I personally would definitely continue to jump back to GW Classic for DA events. Granted... there isn't some even more awesome event in GW 2 at the same time!

Jumping into the current permanent PvP formats is a player choice and if they get abused by botters that's just something too unavoidable at this time. Dragon Arena has always seen plenty of geeked out PvP freaks like me in there to give them a hard time to profit. It's not enough to stop me from enjoying my time with others I expect to fight each event. This is about a fun event that is related to dragons(?) being extended or offered outside the usual Canthan New Year, Dragon Festival or redux events since the GW 2 release will definitely impact player participation during THESE EVENTS. Again this is not about the actual game but the events that allow us to play the Dragon Arena format. Clear as mud?

Saying these are popular because they're available 2 weeks/year is a joke... we have to deal with the same formats for 6 years( some being flawed for 3 years...)... bringing in something new isn't going to be bad..
Although DA is just a joke in my opinion compared to rollerbeetle( which is an other form of joke too) and costume brawl, those formats are by far less flawed and submitted to inactivity than formats such as Codex, Alliance Battles for example

Sadly bots are here to stay - in a way its like the cops taking down drug dealers - you remove 1 or a few and they get replaced in a few days.
Some of us may remember the old days where places like rihlon refuge and bergen/gates of kryta being bot hell - and bk then it wasnt a few bots but a whole horde .
