Assassin--boo!
Cryshal
I've tried most classes, and have to say this is one I can't work well with. I did manage acsension, but the Tahnnakai Temple is no fun at all! I get to the last room and the stupid npc's I have to keep alive, insist on running hither and yon and dying. I can't flag them. It isn't worth it.
I'm so glad Guild Wars 2 will be different! I like the game but it's crazy how the higher level quests are just too damn hard.

I found TT a lot harder on my War (i.e, as a melee) than on my other chars, though perhaps that was just because it was the first time through Factions. Without knowing much else about your situation, I can say throwing in more damage helped for me. There isn't much you can do about dumb AI, so all you can do is try to take out the most dangerous afflicted as soon as you can (which is quite possibly the Monks, given the RoJ change). I didn't have heroes or access to any of the super powerful things we have now (like PvE skills) so with a bit of effort you'll get through it soon enough. Post your build so we can give tips.
Spiritz
The key to TT is to pull carefully - several room can be done fairly easy if you pin heros bk and pull ( via bow ) foes .Pain invertor ( if you have eotn access ) is a damn usefull skill as temple guardians when they aoe can die in 1 go - eg have a minion master or 2 + pain invertor = any foes with aoe will usually explode.
Also i agree with marty - monk afflicted are the priority target , not only will they heal their mob but will annoy you with roj and if you have undead that can mean trouble. Most times they target me with roj ( my chrs are stupid enough to stand in roj and keep fighting ).Infact i tend to do in this order when possible - monks/eles then everything else - eles have some aoe skills which can also punish quite hard.

Cryshal i am going to give you the best advice you will ever get.
BRING A FLATBOW.
YOUR A MESMER BRING A FLATBOW.
YOUR A ASSASSIN BRING A FLATBOW.
YOU SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE A BOW REGARDLESS OF CLASS TO PULL.
Also you can pull vizu from the afflicted group to make it easier. BUT YOU NEED A BOW(A FLATBOW).
SO WHAT DO YOU NEED A BOW.
Anyone who says differently is TERRIBLE.
BUT BACK ON TRACK BRING A BOW.

Thanks, it did dawn on me that I needed something to pull with.

It's no use. I can't finish the last room because Brother Mehnlo and Master Togo can't be controlled and one always dies. I get half way through, and then have to pull over the bridge, and we get surrounded. And yes I have my group flagged back. It's the other two (grit my teeth) who foul things up.
My build is pretty unimportant. I do my damage and move out, on to the next enemy. Mostly I watch what's going on to have my healers heal etc. and keep those two extra npc's alive. Drives me crazy.
Now I'm on to the missons given by Nightfall and War in Kryta.

You shouldn't be having many problems in normal unless you're using just henchmen then I can see it being a pain in the ass. What are your builds? Do you have heroes? Have you asked for help?

A bow is the one real essential to a lot of pve esp if your a melee class and working with hero/henchmen.
The game now is one of player/hero party's not so much players, I find I need to be the party leader staying back and making decisions as the battle changes.
As a melee class I get too focussed on what I am doing and to heck with the party, I then have to react to emergencies instead of seeing the problem as it develops.
Having a party build that is near perfect for the area doesn't always mean you can just walk through mobs with impunity, and I certainly wouldn't play the game that way.
Its true I am a defensive player and I find drawing the enemy to me is always the best way to win.
TT has the mob placement and terrain that often confuses my hero ai and has them retreating the wrong way getting trapped and dead.
Got the masters on this mission on quite a few characters and while its not one I cheerfully repeat or enjoy to much I find you can take your time and destroy all the bosses and mobs by pulling and killing piecemeal.
Suggestion for the last room problems are the wandering patrols outside the main mob get some or all of these first.
Togo and menloe go where you go so you must be very careful here a flatbow is great but only annoy the enemy when one wanders from the group in your direction.
You need to be running back to the party with togo before they get involved in fighting.
safer way is to have one ranger class in the party and flag them forward till they fire then flag them back.
Henchies only difficult hero party pretty easy.

Tahnakai temple is a problem for all professions. I think the reason is that the mobs in there move around in ways we are not used to expecting. Usually we only see fixed patrols or stationary mobs.
In Tahnakai temple, mobs also move on triggers. You aggro a group, expecting the rest of the groups to stay where they are - and suddenly, they charge you.
This is especially the case in the Ritualis boss room. Used to kill me all the time until I finally found out: when you go down the stairs, the stone guardians seem the obvious pull candidate - but if you approach them, you trigger the afflicted to come in to the stairs, having a nasty multi elementalist double aggro (recipe for a crispy fried party).
The proper way is to leave the group on top of the stairs, and yourself only move near the enemies, who will then charge in.
Also, as Vizu, remember the rangers patrol around, and if you don't kill all of the ranger patrols, you'll have 4-6 rangers with BHA hitting your rear all too soon.

I was doing fine, and yes using a bow and trying to control my group. It worked fine until the last room. I couldn't control Brother Mhenlo or Master Togo. I flagged away from the enemies, but that didn't help much. I had to run up a bit to use the bow, and those two followed me and wouldn't run back when I did.

As its the last room is the one you are having trouble with,
when you go into last area hit the ranger that is walking to the right.
then go left only and kill the 2 guardians and the rangers who is coming from the left.
at bridge flag your heros onto the bridge 1/3 in and that way Togo Menhelo will be behind you .
dispense with the boss as he will run towards your group and first group that come then its just a matter of unflagging and clear the mddle area.
As you can manage the rest look at timer before you go in if u have 20 and above there is no need to rush last part as you will still get masters.
Hope this helps you some as you seem to manage the rest ok

First time through factions, got to the city and the experience of the exploding afflicted annoyed me so much that I went to Prophecies to finish leveling. Where it dawned on me that a longbow or flatbow would surely help the situation. I went so far as to develop a hybrid bow and dagger build and simply walked through the rest of factions. For me, PvE, Assassin always has a bow in weapons slot 4. Even if it is just a pulling bow.
Assassins are very good at finishing the job quickly, but if you draw the initial aggro you will be hurt bad. Fire the first shot from max range and push the "s" key to back off. Your party will take the aggro. Once that happens, you can go daggers and blow them all to pieces.

There's several classes you're gonna have trouble with if you go "hell bent for leather" into crowds and all of them are physicals.
Using heroes (or, god forbid hench) you just have to go a little slower.
However, if it's still too much, go Playstation

As the for the one screaming about a FLATBOW...
Its the range of the bow that matters so a Longbow is also good for pulling.
As for Cryshal, another idea, find a caster player to do the mission with that is party leader not u, that way Menhlo and Togo should stick to the caster player that is not in the frontline. Maybe that will do it.
I only use caster characters, nvr had a problem with Tanhakai.
Well, i can strongly recommend a minion wall.

If you want serious help, then it is pretty important. Just give us your build's code so we can have a look at it and list the equipment you're using (weapon damage, armor rating, runes and insignia on or armor, etc.)
Also, TT is an 8 player mission, so knowing what the 7 other players/heroes/henchmen run is also very important -- actually more important than your own build. Again, just tell us who you bring along for that mission.
I agree that Mhenlo and Togo are a little annoying when you play as a melee class, but I find that if you run back far enough, they will eventually turn and come back to you; just make sure the rest of the team stays near enough to heal them and take the pressure off while they run back.
I really enjoy playing as an assassin and I'm a few titles away from GWAMM with mine, so if you want to get to the bottom of this, give us as much info as possible and we'll help! Most likely it will not only help you in this mission but for the rest of GW's content. Feel free to PM me if you're looking for suggestions or have any question.
And remember: GW2 will indeed be different, but who said it's going to be any easier? ;-)

The real trouble with GW nowadays is that the power creep is so strong that everyone can strap on a build and dominate -most- of the game without thinking twice about actual relevant game mechanics (pulling).
GW2 is up in the air though. it's going to be interesting, I have high hopes for it, but I'm trying to reserve judgement until I actually get a chance to play it. Not having to deal with hero/hench AI will indeed be a plus.

No. Don't do this. Walking backwards is way too slow, unless you are trying to pull in normal mode with a speed boost.
Turn your camera away from your target foe, fire an arrow, and as soon as the arrow leaves the bow, run forward away from your target using either mouse click or "w." If you don't want to mess with the camera, you can also click behind you, or double tap "s"(check box #3 in options) to turn around, and then run forward away from the target foe.

Thanks for all the help, guys. I found someone who has finished Factions, who will group with me for that quest this weekend. I do need to check on some good Assassin builds.
p.s. I did Factions when it first came out, with a Ritualist. That was so long ago I don't remember the Temple quest. But evidently I had no problem. And back then I didn't have access to Heroes like I do now. I've played GW long enough that I should know how best to play, but I do occasionally run into snags.
