I been wondering if anyone has brought up the idea that GW1 should change their skill system to GW2 to breathe new life in the game? If I recall correctly, ArenaNet used GW1 as basis for alpha testing for GW2 current skill mechanics. I would love to see them overhaul the skill mechanics. I realize this would be a huge task but it would be extremely beneficial for ArenaNet as they would be training players to adjust to GW2 system. Again it would breathe new life into a old game.

Breathing life into an old game by editing skill mechanics. Right. So GW Beyond isn't adding anything?
But basically, as the others have already said, that would take way too much time and effort away from GW2 being developed, and it would basically be making a new game, which is what is already being done.

Although I believe it would be nice to have 10 skill slots, one of them reserved for self-healing, another for the elite, and things like the 'combo skills' that change into another skill when used to add some bar compression, and being able to target terrain with AoE skills instead requiring a creature as target for all skills, and some other little things GW2 will have, like an actual trade system, there are still many things from GW2 that would not fit in GW1, like removing the secondaries.
But still, now it would be too late for some of those drastical changes, and others are just not technically possible, and that's why they had to make a GW2 in which they are possible in the first place.

I'm pretty sure that changing the skill mechanics isn't a great idea. GW and GW2 are different games, we already have content leading up to GW2, but changing gw into gw2 defeats the point.
There are some people who enjoy gw that wont be playing gw2, so it wont make them too happy. I guess you cant please everyone, but personally this would be a really bad choice.
