If I'm not mistaken, when they first had you "dedicate" minis in your HoM, they were in fact customized to that character instead of just generally dedicated. Anet in their infinite wisdom figured out that this might be a bad idea, so they updated it to the way it currently works. However, no minis that were custo'ed got changed to the new system (afaik) and some are still around. Also to my knowledge, the only person who can use that particular mini is 'Mr Plod' so unless thats you, I would think its worthless. Although having a custo'ed mini, even if its not yours, is kinda cool

You can bring a custo'd mini to the HoM and change it to dedicated. I am not sure if you can do that with someone else's pet (I doubt it), but I was able to switch a few of my initial custo's over to dedicateds (although I wish I hadn't... it's cooler that way :P).
