Hi...
My suggestion.... Unlock customization for shields an foci, granting a bonus of 20% on their white base mod (maybe a bit less, 10-15%, depends on the balancing)....

it gives some extra armor/energy PLUS, the item cant be stolen in case of account hack...

and u can customize foci/shields that u wanna keep forever <3...

what u think?

I generally like the idea, but it's a bit too late to add into the game. Regarding the strength of the customization bonus i think it should be as strong as a inscription, or even slightly better/unconditional (compare +20% custo bonus vs. 15^50 insc)

/signed anyways, but won't happen.

PS: I think this gets closed, as I remember similar suggestions.

Adding something to shields would alter PvP.
PvP equipment comes already customized.

Instead, NOT having it customized should DECREASE their efficiency.

That is, a customized shield would have 16 armor.
One not customized should have less. For example, 10.

That way, the change does not affect PvP equipment in any way, only uncustomized equipment.

Agree with MithranArkanere. There should be a penalty for any equipment that isn't custo'ed, rather than giving a bonus.

(As an aside, I think that caster gear like wands and staves should need to be custo'ed to get the full benefit of the mods. As it stands, caster professions have no need to customize at all)

sounds like someone wants to improve the value of their stock.

probably should have done it from beginning, but just like with weapons there will be all those vain people running around with uncustomized shields and offhands to match.

+1 for this.
The idea to give additional bonuses for custo'd shields is wrong, imo.

You can do other bonus' besides armor. Why not a small health bonus? +10 health? And you get it for foci to

Same with staves items and foci:

- Not customized foci would have 9 energy instead of 12.
- Not customized staves won't have the generic 20% recharge, on top of the 20% damage, plus 24% less energy (so once customized they have +20% energy).

The problem is wands. Wands have the 20% damage. People do wand stuff, but 20% damage for a wand is not reason enough to customize it. So I came up with something that would work.
Not customized wands and staves would consume 1 energy per hit when not customized, to create the magic projectiles.
Once customized, the caster weapons would suck so little energy that would be negligible.
If that's not enough, then skills used when having them equipped could cost 20% more (5->6, 10->2, 15->18, 25->30).

I'd add these ideas to my wiki feedback page to remember them.

There you are: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Feedb...ot_customizing

That should definitely make customization more appealing without affecting PvP.

It is.

Sometimes you hear people saying things like "inscriptions ruined GW" or that "there's nothing rare anymore". That's not true. The problem are not inscriptions or the lack of rares.
The problems are items exempt from loot scaling, the increased rare drops in HM and the lack of "item sinks" for weapons/offhands.

The best way to keep prices of things more or less the same over time is by keeping their numbers more or less the same over time.
If you get a drop and you can both use it and sell it later when you find something you like more, it's like eating the cake and having it too.
To prevent that, you remove those items from the market.

In the case of consumable items like materials and dyes, that happens naturally, since they are consumed when used.

In the case of armor upgrades, it's better to have them drop the price over time, since they may be needed to make quick changes for PvP, so it's better to have them available with relatively low prices.

In the case of weapons, shields and foci, you remove them by customizing them. Once you customize an item, it becomes useful for you and your heroes, but for no one else.

That way, you must choose between selling an item, and using the item. And subsequent items that drop follow this too. People either use them or sell them, but not both.

That prevents the market from being 'filled' with more copies of the same item that keep coming into the market without ever being removed.

And that's why customization should be improved and/or enforced to make it desirable and/or mandatory.

I'd agree MithranArkanere, but I'm not buying sets of PvP shields for every caster and 1 energy per wand hit is ridiculous (it's about 10DPS on master of damage).

It'd be different if you could make 15/7 or 14/6 shields in the PvP panel but that's not happening.

People already choose between using an item and selling it. The difference is that as it stands you're allowed to change your mind, and I personally don't think that's a bad thing. If your problem is rarity, economy or weapon skin, then that's what should be changed, not the mechanics of the items themselves, they work fine.

We've had a thread like this just recently. There are more older examples that I won't go into. While the idea of customizing foci might not be there, it's not a large step from the idea of customizing shields, or any kind of off-hand.
