so here i am in pre searing ascalon about to do the leaving quest.
i understand that once you've left and witnessed the searing, you cannot return to ascalon in its pre seared condition. heres the thing, standing in town i see other players wandering around wearing kit and seemingly of an experience level that doesnt seem to be available in this part of the game!
im sure im missing something.cheers

IMHO you saw costumes "They are worn over a character's existing armor, and do not affect any stats." http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Costume

Like being said above,

There is a title wich is rewarded by getting to lvl 20 in pre-seering. I would suggest to not do that with your first character, it takes a long time and it stops you from enjoying the rest of the game.

The other things are costumes and festivalhats. they can be gathered account wide (costumes have to be bought extra from the in-game shop), They do not have extra stats and the real armor is underneath the costume.

Many of those people have perma-pre-seering characters, that are created for the only purpose of enjoying pre-seering anytime. They don't have any plans on leaving the place.

There is a long wiki article bout how to do it, but basicly the trick is to gain experience by killing foes (best way is to go over the wall into the northlands, cause there are higher level foes there that gives more experiences) and keep killing stuff till you are lvl 10. At that moment Langmar in Ascalon will be giving you one quest/day with enemy's that level up with you. (there are 9 of those quest, every day another one, and after 9 days it repeats).

there are 2 ways to get to lvl 20 in pre.

one is death leveling essentially you get some enemies near a res shrine and let them kill you again and again till they get to a higher levl then kill them for the experience.

Or you get to lvl 10 in pre then take the new daily quests that give 1000 xp to work your way to lvl 20.
The way to get to lvl 10 is to never take the quest rewards but to keep killing creatures till your pretty close to lvl 9 then accept all the rewards.

A quick word on the daily quests: To level even faster, repeatedly kill enemies without finishing the quest by popping in and out of town/outposts to "reset" them. Zoning in and out of an area with enemies with close access to a portal can dramatically speed up the process...quest in the Catecombs where you kill several Zombie Warlocks for example; you can run down, quickly kill the first one (turn right when leaving Ashford instead of left, squeezing behind the building...should know you're there by all the gargoyles) and the higher level unded with him. Depending on your level, just a few runs will net you the same amount of experiance as the quest reward and save you a LOT of time.

If you intend leaving pre with this char and continuing on to finish the Prophecies campaign I wouldn't lvl up any more in pre as it will ruin the rest of Prophecies campaign by making it too easy.

It won't make it too easy.. but I see no point in leveling further in pre unless you plan on going for LDoA title.

On the other hand, the Prophecies campaign can be brutal with only henchmen and no other people to play the game with (few people are going through the game with prophecies characters).

If you are already lvl 8 it shouldn't be too hard though, and a good guildmate or two should be able to help you if you get stuck in a tight spot (also a lot of people enjoy helping people new to the game, feel free to ask and you'll probably get help).

Also be aware of your inventory. You probably already have noticed, but Black and white dyes are valuable drops. Make sure to keep those as they are valuable after you witness the searing.

Its a lot more fun playing through the game with friends and a lot easier.
Even if you don't always play as a party the one that has already done a particular mission can still come back and do it again.

You can also keep an eye out for equipment drops that might benefit each others characters since these are random it helps a lot.

I wasn't too sure about the guild thing either, when I first started playing, but keep looking. There are casual guilds out there with mature people (of any age) who play for fun with friends and family. It can be beneficial to join such a guild for access to a guild hall and for keeping guild recruiters from constantly whispering you because you don't have a guild tag.

At their best guilds are a collection of good natured reliable people with a wealth of experience in the game.

You gain a home base "guild hall" to gather away from other players you have people to form parties get advice on game problems.
There are also guilds that specialise in aspects of the game be it pvp pve farming or what have you.
You have all you need right now with friends and family, so may not need a guild for some time if ever.

It is worthwhile checking out what is selling at the traders for large sums be it dye runes or rare materials.
Also worth listening to what other players are asking for some materials are wanted either to complete missions craft items or create "consumables" some of these have great value.
Its not something to devote a large part of your game time but a note pad with a list of valuables could net you a decent profit.

Hopefully see you all at the Halloween festivities coming soon.

There's all kinds of guilds. I'm pretty sure most that have someone sitting in pre-searing doing recruitment, are a bit larger and more serious.

Most of the members of my guild and my alliance for that matter are just people we randomly grouped with and liked.

another question in my new man to the game thing.
im in one of the major towns and i see the talk going on betwixt players stood in a group, looked to be two guilds.given the level of articulation on display i reckoned they were all around twelve years old, untill a rather nasty spate of what could only be referred to as racist bile began to emerge.
im wondering what the games policy is towards this kind of thing, other online games that i have been involved in (albeit briefly) tended to come down on this behaviour like a ton of bricks.is there a view by the moderators on this or is that just the way it is? just curious really. cheers

For the most part, Anet has the same policy towards such language/verbal abuse as other MMOs out there (imo, since I haven't really played other online games >.<).

There is a handy report feature in-game if you happen to run across players being deliberately racist/lewd/etc:

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki//report

Some of the large gathering towns you'll run across in the course of the game have become hotbeds of inane/inappropriate players -- Shing Jea Monastary in Factions, for one. Chances are there are or were some players in the town who also noticed these kids and likely reported them...but you don't get dinged by Anet for being proactive and also reporting them. And if you are lucky, you may get to see someone Dhuumed ^_^

yep,it was shing jea as it happens.it was the typical sexist\inane racism you might hear in the average playground! thanks for the answer.cheers

FYI, the places you'll most likely see juvenile/offensive/trolling behavior are:

  • Shing Jea Monastery
  • Great Temple of Balthazar
  • Old Ascalon
  • Lion's Arch
  • Kamadan
That's kind of in order of most to least, according to my observations (I'm not even going to bother with the PvP outposts). Just be mindful that serious questions in Local might not get appropriate answers at those outposts (LA and Kamadan are a mixed bag, due to their melting pot nature).
I applaud anyone who takes the time to report these idiots. But often these places are so infested that I just can't be bothered reporting them all the time.

Which gate are you trying to go through? The one in Seitung Harbor that leads to Zen Daijun? That's the gate to the explorable area, and you won't be able to go through there until you complete the Zen Daijun mission.

Your next Primary Quest ("Looking For Trouble") should be available from Brother Pe Wan, who stands just inside Seitung from Saoshang Trail.

That quest will lead you out into Jaya Bluffs, where you will be led on a quest chain that takes you through Haiju Lagoon. Master Togo is waiting for you at the end, near the portal to the Zen Daijun outpost (if you have the quest).

You need quest "to zen daijun" given by Su in Haiju Lagoon

i have the feeling ive stuffed up the quests somewhere along the line, which means i'll have to delete and start again.oh well hey ho! doesnt take long to get levelled up in factions and ive probably got a better notion of how to play an assassin now. cheers
edit;
i went to haiju lagoon and su is nowhere to be seen.i did play a portion of the game having worked 4 nights straight and 3 days of nieces and nephews staying over so ive probably borked it somewhere along the line! cheers

Dont delete the character because of that. It probably means you already have the quest in your acive listing. Press the L key ingame and you can see the list of open quests in your log. At the top you should have a Primary quest. Select and follow that and you will be back on the normal storlyine.

P. S. If you are still looking for a guild but are still worried that some of them take things too seriously you can always start your own guild.

Alternatively I can send you an invite to one of my mule account one man guilds and give you free reign with the guild (Ill stay guild leader, but you would be an officer which means you have the power to invite your friends) untill you feel you want to join an active guild / start your own.

I wont interfere at all as I only use that account for storage when my main account is too full . If you need help starting a new guild just for yourselves or want to take up my offer, then just shoot me a PM here .

As Rushin said, don't delete your character. It's actually very hard to irreversibly "screw up" a character in this way. Really, the only reason you would ever need to delete a character is if you hate the primary profession or you completed a non-repeatable quest that you want to farm on that character. Everything else can usually be changed or fixed.

You might want to consult the wiki list of Factions Primary Quests and Missions. Find what you last remember doing and read your way through to see where you need to pick up.

Unless, as was mentioned, your Primary is sitting there waiting for you in your Quest Log.

Good luck.

Yeah, he'll continue to pointlessly stand there even after you complete the quest with him at that location. So that doesn't really tell you much.

As I said, unless you've run into a new, rare bug, messing it up isn't possible.
You need to go out here:

and see if Zho and the other NPCs are standing in Sizhou Hall with a quest for you.

If not, you need to go here:

and look for NPCs, to pick up a quest from Su.
