Unable to edit post in "Sell"

Linkage
For some reason, whenever I try to save an edit to my "Sell" thread, I immediately get a white page indicating "500 Internal Server Error". I'm able to open a quick edit, but I'm unable to "Go Advanced" without getting the same error. I'm able to use the advanced editor using a link, but I'm still unable to save.
Note that I'm able to edit other posts just fine.
My first instinct was that it was a caching problem, so I cleared the cache. I then tried logging out, and logging back in. I've tried it on Firefox, Opera, and IE, and got the same error on each.
Any suggestions or ideas as to what might be the problem?
Thanks in advance.

hm, I did some testing...and out side of your thread I was able to get the same error with only one other thread:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/f...t10486539.html
I was thinking it was the date...nope, older threads went advanced just fine.
so its not just you ...I was able to get the same error, therefore...its guru related.
(as to the issue...that other thread has tons of image related stuff, boxes, etc....so might have to do with too much stuff for the server to handle?????)

Well, I suppose that could be an explanation. But there's nothing there that's more than 32kb, and most of the images are less than 15 or 20kb. Those are very small files, and if the servers can't handle them, we're in bad shape.
By the way, I use those heading images not just because they're pretty. With a large-ish thread like mine, it's easier for people to find what they're looking for if it's nicely organized. Since we can't resize fonts (not that I've been able to find, anyway), graphic headings are the best way. Maybe we could ask about adding font sizing and colors to the editing tools? I know it's possible on other vBulletin forums.
EDIT:
Whatever it was is now fixed. Thanks to you both!

Bumping because the same issue is back.
I had edited the post this morning just fine, but now I'm getting the same error as before.

Submitted a ticket. Thanks!

I deleted all the content from your thread temporarily, and saved it. I refreshed the page, and was able to access the advanced edit without any errors. However... now it won't let me re-add the content without getting that error. I think I just broke your thread . It let me re-add content up to a certain point, but that's it.
//re-edit//
ok, Jimbo... I was able to restore your thread... kind of . I had to split it up into 3 separate posts, otherwise the server error wouldn't let me add the content back. Once the issue gets fixed we can put them back all into the same post. I'm sorry D:

Hah. No worries Jenn, I think I can deal with a mutant Sell thread for a day or two.
Edit:
Thanks Jenn, all squared away. I left the two posts you added just in case it happens again.

Hi folks,
For a couple hours now I've been getting ...

... when I try to edit some posts.
I am unable to edit this first bump post of my Sell thread from Dec. 28, post 5617356, that Sell thread's OP from Dec. 26, post 5616435 or my Buy thread's OP from Oct. 2009, post 4900353. At first, it was just happening on my Buy thread's OP, and I could still edit my Sell thread's OP. Then it was just the OPs of both threads. Now, it seems whatever the problem is has spread, and I can't edit that bump post with the history any longer. Is it affecting older posts first and slowly absorbing the newer ones?
I'd appreciate it very much if this can be fixed! I realize, of course, that it is all Slayer's doing. I'm hopeful that good will prevail and you can thwart his evil, trout-centric plans!
Thanks & Cheers,
Luny
EDIT - I'm not the only one it's happening to - see this thread in trader's outpost.

Jimbo has actually experienced the same thing in one of his threads. At first I thought it was the quantity of images in his thread that was the problem, but maybe it's the quantity of BBCode? You don't seem to have as many images as he did, but you definitely have at least as much BBCode. We haven't been experiencing this problem with any posts that are short or contain little imagery/bbcode.
I'll submit a support ticket, but I'm not sure if there will be a long-term fix. I'm not really sure what the underlying cause is (I'm just hypothesizing).

Does it get better after a while? I still can't edit the OP of my buy or sell threads. I just tried, and it will let me edit that history bump post now but still no luck with either OP.
This is the first time I've run into this problem. That sell thread is a week or so old and has had about that much content since day one. That buy thread is over two years old. Yes, it's a lot of code, but it's been a lot of code for two years without issues before. :/
I know it's not a good thing, but I can't help but feel a little proud to think, "I broke Guru with bullet lists!!!"

Hi,
I'm unable to update my thread (here : http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/c...t10486539.html)
Every time I try to update, I get a 500 internal server error.
I was able to update an old bump (end of page 4), but still can't update 1st message.
Is this happening to you ?
I have been trying for 3 hours now, and even if I remove a part of my items list to make the message shorter, I get a 500 error.
Is there a (new?) limit to the size of a message ?
If this is the case, this would need a correction of either the size limit, either the ventary rules that won't allow me to have 2 threads if my items list can't fit in one.
Since I probably won't be able to update until tomorrow, I have another question : I have been updating my thread for 6 months, and my thread has 13 pages.
I am sometimes under the impression that people don't look at it as much as they did, meaning that most of them prefer looking at a brand new threads than at a several-months old, several-pages thread even if that thread has been updated with many new items.
Do you think I should start a new thread instead of updating the old one in order to have a better chance of selling things ?

Yes, the same 500 error is happening to me, too. I asked about it in Site Feedback at this thread earlier today. It's frustrating, as people keep whispering me about stuff that's already bought or sold - I feel bad wasting their time like that, but I can't change the OPs of my Sell or Buy threads.
As far as long-running vs. short threads, I think it's a matter of choice. Personally, I like to keep a long-running buy thread, as I get the impression more people are likely to remember vague things about the weird stuff I'm buying ... at least enough to make them consider finding my thread in their subscription/bookmarks to check details of new loot they get. For Sell threads, I prefer short-running ones. There are a few folks with long-running sell threads that do seem to do well that way. Buyers get used to them and check back there first when they're looking for new stuff. If you're always selling a rolling stock of the same kinds of gear a steady thread might help sales from repeat customers. If what and when you're actively selling varies a bit, I'd think you're better off with shorter threads. When browsing Sell, I will often skip past a thread I've seen in the past few days unless there's something really striking about the title or the mouseover to alert me there is new stuff to see in the OP. Newer threads get lots of new views, but I'm not sure they automatically get lots more sales from all those views.

Hi,
I'm having the same issue
(explained here : http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/2...t10500721.html
thread here : http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/c...t10486539.html)
I think I'm going to start a new thread since many people seem to look at new thread more like they do at old threads (when bumping everyday an old thread, I get about 1 bid/day while when I opened that thread back in July, I had 2 pages in 2 days)
But, since the issue seems to be related to the size of the items list, I'm probably have the same issue again unless I sell most of my stuff fast.
An idea would be to add empty messages in my new thread right after opening it (let's say 1 message/item category, which would let me make a menu), but I'm afraid the anti-early-bump system is going to prevent me from doing that. (even if adding empty message seconds after the original post isn't really a bump ^^)
Thanks

Curse is looking into it, however they can't identify the cause of these errors.
The most I can offer is to help by splitting posts up so you have an additional post below your OP. If that's something you'd like, please let me know.

It seems to have fixed itself overnight, but please let us know if it starts happening again so that we can poke the devs.
