Is it possible to postion my 4 - 7th hero like the 1st - 3rd hero via the buttons under the map???

No, sorry. There isn't any way of flagging heroes 4 thru 7 individually. However, you can still flag them as a group with the 4th flag. It's a good thing to keep this in mind when filling out your party.

I find it's advantageous to always put my rit(s) into the first couple of spots.

Also very important to plan for 4 Horsies in the UW (not that I recommend doing UW with all heroes, but it can be done when guildies are unavailable)
